Raids on sugar market in Faridpur to prevent excessive prices, fines imposed

The District Consumer Rights Protection Department has conducted a drive in the sugar market in Faridpur to prevent excessive price hikes.

The drive was conducted from 11 am to 12:30 pm on Wednesday (November 23). During this, Messrs. Nila Daul Mill, a sugar wholesaler in Goalchamte, district headquarters, and Messrs. Chanoar Store, a small trader in Pansher Heliport Bazar, were fined. The drive was led by Assistant Director of the District Consumer Rights Protection Department Md. Sohel Sheikh, Senior Marketing Officer of the Department of Agricultural Marketing Md. Shahadat Hossain, a team of district police and concerned market business leaders were present and provided overall support in the drive.
Assistant Director of the District Consumer Rights Protection Department Md. Sohel Sheikh said that during the campaign, Messrs. Nila Daul Mill was fined Tk 5,000 and Messrs. Chanoar Store was fined Tk 2,000 for not having purchase receipts for daily necessities including sugar, keeping the price of sugar high, and not properly storing and displaying the price list. He said that this campaign will continue in the public interest with the cooperation of the Faridpur district administration.
