What to do with social media accounts after someone's death?

Disclosure:

Spread the love
Billions of people around the world use social media platforms. They spend a lot of time scrolling through Facebook and Instagram. They regularly post pictures and videos. They check their likes and shares. They also chat with friends all the time. However, many people wonder what will happen to their online presence after death. Sometimes, the user can decide what will happen to the account himself. But many may not know this. In addition, the account remains active until relatives inform social media about the person's death. If close relatives inform about the death, some social media allow the profile to be closed. Some social media provide different options. This information was obtained from a report by international news media BBC Bangla.
The report states that when a person's death certificate is submitted on Meta-owned Facebook and Instagram, the account is either deleted or memorialized. That is, the account will be frozen for a period of time and will remember the user. During this time, others will be able to post photos and memories on the account. The deceased person's account name will be written 'In Memoriam' or 'In Memory'. No one will be able to log in or operate that account unless the user provides a 'legacy contact' before death.
Typically, a family member or friend can be designated as a 'legacy contact'. They can manage the content of the deceased person's account or request to deactivate it. Memorialized accounts are not displayed to potential virtual friends in the 'People You May Know' or 'People You May Know' list on Facebook. And the deceased's friends do not receive any notifications of their birthday.
How to take advantage of legacy contact features
To take advantage of this feature of Facebook, you first need to open a Facebook account. Then go to Facebook from the app and click on the profile picture on the right. Then go to the Privacy and Settings option at the bottom. Go there and click on the Settings option.
After clicking there, several options will appear. From there, you have to click on the Access and Control option. Then, when you go to the Memorialization settings, the 'Choose Legacy Contacts' option will appear.
Go there and enter the name of the person you want to leave the account in the search option. Then the name of that person will appear on your screen. From there you can make the account in his name. However, to do this, that person must be your Facebook friend.
When you select someone, they will immediately receive a message stating that you are giving them responsibility for your Facebook account in your absence.
Meanwhile, in the case of X (former Twitter) accounts, there is no option to memorialize someone's profile. In that case, the account can only be deactivated if the person dies or the account owner is unable to use it.
