The final candidates in the alliance-Awami League

Dhaka: The Awami League has sent letters to the final candidates for the seats where two candidates were initially nominated. Among them, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has released Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury from the Rangpur-6 seat.

On Friday (December 7), Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader handed over the letters to the final candidates at the political office of the Awami League president in Dhanmondi in the capital.

The final candidates who received letters as candidates are Syed Ashraful Islam (Kishoreganj-1), Md. Mozaffar Hossain (Jamalpur-5), Habibur Rahman Molla (Dhaka-5), Haji Md. Selim (Dhaka-7), Akbar Hossain Pathan Faruk (Dhaka-17), Dr. Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir (Chandpur-1), Ma. Nurul Amin (Chandpur-2), Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman (Chandpur-4), AKM Shahjahan Kamal (Lakshmipur-3), Nizam Uddin Jalil (Naogaon-5), Md. Shahidul Islam Bakul (Natore-1), BM Kabirul Haque (Narail-1), Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu (Barguna-1), ASM Firoz (Patuakhali-2), Tanvir Hasan alias Chhota Monir (Tangail-2) and Abul Kalam Azad (Jamalpur-1).

The Awami League initially fielded two candidates for each of these seats.

At a press conference, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that 40 to 42 seats have been left for the grand alliance partner Jatiya Party, five for the Bangladesh Workers' Party, three for JSD (Inu), one for JSD (Ambiya), two for Tarikat Federation, three for Jukta Front (Bikalpadhara), and two for Jatiya Party (JP). In total, this number will be 55 to 60.

When asked about the final list of candidates for the Grand Alliance, he said, "The final list will be sent to the Election Commission tomorrow (Saturday). You can find out from there."

Meanwhile, letters have also been handed over to the candidates of the alliance's partner parties who will be elected by the boat. They are - Jasad (Ambiya) Moinuddin Khan Badal (Chittagong-8), Jatiya Party (JP) Ruhul Amin (Kurigram-4), Anwar Hossain Manju (Pirojpur-2), Syed Nazibul Bashar Maizbhandari (Chittagong-2).

Besides, Jukta Front (Alternative Bangladesh) FM Shaheen (Moulvibazar-2), Major (Retd.) MA Mannan (Lakshmipur-4) and Mahi B Chowdhury (Munshiganj-1) have received election letters with the boat symbol.

Those who received election letters in the boat mark are Shirin Akhtar (Feni-1), Rezaul Karim Tansen (Bogra-4) and Hasanul Haque Inu (Kushtia-2) of JSD, Rashed Khan Menon (Dhaka-8), Fazle Hossain Badsha (Rajshahi-2) and Mustafa Lutfullah (Satkhira-1) of Bangladesh Workers Party.
