Low-lying areas flooded due to heavy rain and high tide

Due to the influence of a low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal and the full moon day, continuous rain has been falling in the coastal district of Bagerhat for three days. The continuous rain and high tide have flooded the low-lying areas of the district. At least a hundred villages in various upazilas have been submerged.

Besides, fishermen have taken safe shelter with their trawlers due to the rough sea. Meanwhile, a vast area of the Sundarbans has been flooded by the abnormal tide caused by the low pressure in the sea and the influence of the full moon. Most of the areas of the forest, including the Karamjal tourist center, were flooded with three to three and a half feet of water during the afternoon tide on Sunday and Monday. Some areas were also reported to be flooded on Tuesday. Various areas including Rahater Mor, Sadhanar Mor, Purba Basabati, behind KB Bazar, in front of the Old Bazar Land Office, Shaltala-Press Club Road, in front of Sadar Police Station, the road from the toll plaza to Basabati, Malopara, Bagerhat Fish and Raw Market were flooded. Various areas including Majhidanga Shelter Project, Chargram, Bishnupur in Sadar Upazila were flooded. Various areas including Bhandarkhola, Narendrapur, Pratappur, Sangdia, Afra in Kachua Upazila were flooded.

The main market of Morelganj, the office premises of the Upazila Parishad, Teligati, Hoglapasha, Fulhata and many villages of different unions have been flooded. Many people have been affected. In addition, several areas of Rampal, Mongla, Sharankhola upazilas have been reported to be flooded.

Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Azizur Rahman said that water has risen in several areas due to the full moon tide and continuous rain. However, no human or animal damage has been reported. All Upazila Nirbahi Officers are keeping a close watch on the area. If any assistance is needed anywhere, immediate action will be taken.
