The funeral of MGM Shahriar, a fourth-year student of the Marketing Department of Rajshahi University, who died after falling from the balcony of Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall, was held at the Central Mosque premises. Hundreds of teachers and students of the university participated in it.
The body was brought from the Rajshahi Medical University (RMU) morgue to the university's mosque premises for the funeral at 9 am today (October 20). Later, the funeral was conducted under the leadership of Imam Fahim Mahmud, the head of the central mosque.
After the funeral, Mahmud's body was handed over to his elder brother Golam Sabbir Shakil, led by the university's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Golam Sabbir Sattar.
Then at 9:30 am, the university administration and teachers and students left for Dinajpur, the village home of the deceased, in the university's own transport to complete the burial of the body. Family sources said that he will be buried in a local graveyard in his native area.
Earlier, a student named MGM Shahriar was seriously injured after falling from the third-floor balcony of Habibur Rahman Hall of Rajshahi University (RU) around 8 pm on Wednesday. Later, students took him to Ramech Hospital, where he died. Shahriar is a fourth-year student of the Marketing Department of the University. His home is in Birol Upazila of Dinajpur.
Students protesting in front of the main gate of Ramech on Wednesday night (September 19) made this demand. During this, a one-hour ultimatum was given to expel those involved in negligence of duty and those who raised their hands against university students. Thousands of students besides teachers participated in the protest.
