Dhaka: Although there will be fewer foreign observers in the 11th National Parliament elections, they will have all kinds of assistance to make the elections fair, peaceful and participatory. Foreigners will provide assistance to domestic observers in various ways.
The Election Commission has taken various initiatives to attract foreign observers ahead of the national elections. However, despite the commission's initiatives, foreign observers have not responded much for various reasons. The United Nations and the European Union will not send observers in the next elections. However, a 20-member observation team is coming from the United States. In addition, officials from various missions in Dhaka will observe the elections. At the same time, assistance will be provided to domestic observers by various countries.
UN will not send observers
The United Nations will not send any observers to the upcoming parliamentary elections. UN Secretary-General's spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that the United Nations is assisting Bangladesh in the elections, although it is not observing the elections. The United Nations is providing technical assistance to the Bangladesh Parliamentary Election Project.
The UN spokesperson also said, "We believe that elections in Bangladesh should be held in a positive environment, free from any kind of repression."
The European Union's role in election monitoring
The European Union (EU) will not send a large number of election observers to the national elections. However, they have sent two experts to observe the elections. The two experts are David Noel Ward and Irina Maria Gounari. These two representatives have been in Bangladesh since November 27. They are also observing the elections. After the observation, they will submit a detailed report to the European Union. These two observers will be in Bangladesh until January 15 to observe the elections.
The European Union has officially announced that it will not observe the upcoming parliamentary elections in Bangladesh. It will not comment on the election process or even the subsequent results.
12 US teams to observe elections
Twelve teams from the United States will observe the upcoming national elections. The country will support the domestic election observation organization in Bangladesh to ensure fair, impartial and credible elections. The United States has prepared to send 12 observation teams for the upcoming elections. Each team will have two members. They will observe the elections in different parts of the country. In addition, the United States will provide financial support to the domestic election observation organization.
China's position on monitoring
China, one of Bangladesh's major development partners, believes that Bangladesh has sufficient capacity to organize fair elections. China also expects the elections to be fair and smooth.
When asked whether China would send observers to the upcoming 11th National Parliament elections in Bangladesh, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Xu said that Bangladesh has sufficient capacity to hold fair elections.
Other countries will also stand by.
Various countries will provide electoral assistance for the 11th National Parliament elections. Although various countries are unable to send observers due to their various limitations, they have also prepared to provide assistance to domestic observation organizations. The United States, Switzerland and other domestic countries will provide financial assistance to observers.
Voting for the 11th national election will be held on December 30. In view of this election, domestic and foreign observers have started election monitoring activities.
