PM to be given 'guard of honour' during India visit

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit India from September 5 to 8. She will be officially welcomed at the airport by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Bangabandhu's daughter will be formally given a guard of honour during the visit. Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said this at a briefing in New Delhi on Thursday afternoon.

He said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's upcoming visit will be at the 'state' level. And through this visit, the relations between the two countries will be further strengthened.

During this visit, the Prime Minister will meet Indian President Dhruv Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that Sheikh Hasina will hold bilateral talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar will pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Sheikh Hasina may visit Ajmer during this time.

He said that in recent years, there has been high-level contacts between the two countries, including at the highest level. The foundation of Bangladesh-India relations is mutual trust, understanding, and strong historical and cultural ties.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's upcoming visit will further strengthen the multilateral relations between the two countries.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs did not confirm whether the chief ministers of the states would be present at the meeting with the Bangladesh delegation led by Sheikh Hasina. He said, "There are still a few days left for the visit. The delegation will be finalized during that time."
