A Japanese filmmaker has been sentenced to ten years in prison by an army-ruled court of Meanmar, which has been accused of inciting a dissenting opinion against the Japanese filmmaker named Toru Kubota.

An official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan came to know this on Thursday.

Toru Kubota, 26, was arrested during a protest in the main city of Yangon in Myanmar last July, and has been reportedly facing allegations of violating immigration law and inciting dissent against the ruling military.

Quote's lawyer said, ‘We are requesting the Myanmar authorities to release Kubota on Wednesday for sedition and a seven-year prison for violating the telecommunications law. The official said, ’We are requesting the Myanmar authorities for the speedy release of Kubota and we want to continue it."

Rachters called Myanmar's military spokesman for comment but there was no response, the junta said, the court in Myanmar is independent and those who have been arrested are being tried through due process.
