About 300 kg of food items belonging to the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) have been recovered from the residence of a grocer in Lakshmipur.
The items were recovered from Kuruji's house in Paschim Mandari village of Sadar upazila on Saturday (October 29) afternoon. Upazila Executive Officer Md. Imran Hossain conducted the operation with the assistance of the National Security Intelligence (NSI).
The recovered goods are - 200 kg of TCB pulses, 40 kg of sugar and 62 liters of oil. The recovered goods are in the custody of the upazila administration.
It is learnt that Pabel, son of Afzal Patwari of Paschim Mandari village of the upazila, and his associate Faruk illegally warehoused these TCB products from Lakshmipur Terdas and Megha Terdas dealer Mohammad Mamun. Pabel is a grocer from the local Chaumuhani Pol area. They fled after receiving news of the raid, so they could not be arrested.
Sources said that based on secret information, National Security Intelligence (NSI) officials conducted a raid at the spot and seized these illegally warehoused TCB products. Later, upon receiving the information, Upazila Executive Officer Md. Imran Hossain went to the spot and recovered these products and took them into his custody. At that time, Mandari Union Parishad Chairman Sohrab Hossain Rubel Patwari and member Momin Ullah along with local people were present.
It is reported that preparations are underway to take legal action against Lakshmipur Terdas and Megha Terdas dealer Mohammad Mamun and others in this incident.
