School van driver arrested on charges of attempted child rape

Police have arrested a school van driver named Raihan (42) on charges of attempting to rape a child student in Kaliakoir, Gazipur.

The police arrived and took the accused away after locals reported him around 12 noon on Tuesday. The child's mother has filed a complaint with Kaliakair Police Station in this regard.

The arrested Raihan is the son of Abdur Rahat of Sheikhpara area of Alamdanga police station in Chuadanga and a van driver of Shaheen Cadet School Tangail branch in Safipur area of Ward No. 9 of the municipality.

According to the complaint filed with the police station, the child's family and local sources, the student went to school on Tuesday morning as usual. After school, around 11 am, van driver Raihan was taking the child home in the school van. On the way, the van stopped under the Safipur flyover, took the child behind the truck, kissed the child on the cheek and bit the child's lip. At that time, when the child screamed in fear, van driver Raihan took him home.

When the child's mother reached home, she came to know about the matter. Later, the child's mother, with the help of locals, arrested the van driver Raihan and informed the police. Upon receiving the information, the police arrested the accused van driver Raihan and took him to the police station. The child's mother has filed a complaint with Kaliakair Police Station regarding the incident.

Shahidur Rahman, sub-inspector of Kaliakair Police Station, said that a school van driver named Raihan has been arrested on charges of attempting to rape a child student. Legal action in the matter is under process.
