The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has given final approval to a total of 10 projects, including the construction of a new cantonment in the name of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the Lebukhali bank of the Payra River at a cost of Tk 2.5 billion. The projects, costing Tk 3,333 crore, were given final approval at the ECNEC meeting on Tuesday.
The meeting was held at the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar NEC conference room in the capital under the chairmanship of ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The approved Sheikh Hasina Cantonment Barisal will be built on 965 acres of land under the establishment project. The Ministry of Defense will implement the project from the current period to June 2021 at a cost of Tk 1,699 crore.
8 new projects excluding cantonments
ECNEC approved Tk 712 crore for dredging the outer channel of Mongla Port until 2020, Tk 100 crore for widening the Shalikha-Jhenaidah highway in Magura, Tk 57 crore for a bridge over the Rangamati River on the Barisal-Dumki road, Tk 1.6 billion for developing minor irrigation in Khulna and Jessore, Tk 89 crore for Bogra-Dinajpur, Tk 1.89 crore for establishing a second transmission line to import electricity from India in Bheramara, Kushtia, Tk 1.37 crore for completing the construction of the National Art Gallery, Music and Dance Center, and Tk 90 crore for the construction of a pharmaceutical institute.
