Lakshmipur-1 MP Dr. Anwar Hossain Khan said that cultural activists have always been a force in favor of independence. They have never stood against the spirit of the Liberation War and the independence of the country. There is no alternative to cultural practice to prevent fundamentalism, communalism and religious extremism. As a result of various initiatives taken by the current government, there has been a stir in the field of cultural practice in the last ten years.
He made these remarks while addressing the chief guest at a cultural program organized at the Ramganj Upazila Parishad auditorium on Friday night (December 16). During the event, posthumous tributes were paid to eight cultural workers for their invaluable contributions to art, literature and culture.
They are former Ramganj Municipality councilor Motahar Hossain Patwari, Awami League leader Shahjahan Master, music artist Swapan Chakraborty, Bishweshwar Saha, Radheshyam Patwari, Malay Nandi, Joydev Chandra Saha, Krishna Gopal Baul. Chief guest Anwar Khan MP presented the crest of honor to their family members at the event.
Presided over by Ramganj Upazila Executive Officer Umme Habiba Mira and presented by Upazila Secondary Academic Supervisor Sharif Ullah Shams, former mayor Belal Ahmed, freedom fighter Tosaddek Hossain Manik Mal, Upazila Chhatra League President Rabiul Islam Apu Mal, officers/employees of the Upazila administration, and cultural workers were also present.
