Voting in 117 upazilas on Sunday

Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) will hold polls in the 117th stage of the country as early as Rebba (March 24) in the morning. The polling area will be held non-stop from 8 am to 4 pm on this day. For this reason, the polling area has been announced as a general holiday.

EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmad has informed that the poll schedule of 127 upazilas was announced first and four upazilas have voted, among these, the polling of Lohaga in Chittagong and Kutubdita upazila of Cox's Bazar has been postponed by the order of the election court of Narsingdi Sadar and Cox's Bazar Sadar and the election of Narsingdi Sadar and Cox's Bazar Sadar has been held on March 31.

On the other hand, polling will be held in 117 upazilas of Rebba, candidates who are elected unopposed for all the posts of Chhat Upazila.

The secretary said, "So far, three parliamentarians have been warning about not participating in the campaign by disobeying the law. They have also left the election area within a certain amount of time, so we have not to go to any other action."

Helaluddin Ahmad said, "We have withdrawn the complaint to the officer-in-charge (OC) and three upazila executive officers (UNOs) as soon as we received the complaint and also exempted several OCs and additional superintendents from duty.

All the materials have already been reached in the constituency. Voting will be held in Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) at Rangpur Sadar, Gopalganj Sadar, Manikganj Sadar and Meherpur Sadar in the third phase.

33 candidates for the post of Chairman, 33 candidates for the post of Vice Chairman and 13 candidates for the post of Female Vice Cheterman have been elected unopposed in the third phase elections.

In the 117 upazila elections of 25 districts, 340 candidates are contesting for the post of chairman, 584 for the post of vice chairman and 399 for the post of female vice-chancellor.

In the election, 1.18 lakh 87 thousand 751 voters are getting the opportunity to vote for their voting rights in nine thousand 298 polling stations.

The secretary said that the 24 upazilas have been deployed in the third phase of additional force. If there is any kind of inconvenience, legal action will be taken immediately. The Election Commission has taken a strict stand.

The police, Ansar and village police members will always be active in the polling stations and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will patrol the polling area, the mobile teams of the police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have all been deployed in the area of lakhs of forces.

Two unarmed members of the armed forces will also be engaged in each center to vote in EVMs. They can take the help of the concerned army camp in the case.

The EC is conducting the fifth phase of the fifth upazila parishad election in five phases. The fourth phase of polling will be held on March 31 and the fifth phase of polling on June 18.
