Tsunami threat in 15 districts
The low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal has turned into a depression. At the same time, due to the influence of the full moon, there is a threat of a tidal surge of more than 1 to 2 feet in 15 coastal districts.
Meteorologist Khondaker Hafizur Rahman said that the distinct low pressure area located in the west-central Bay of Bengal and the adjacent northwest Bay of Bengal has moved west-northwestwards and condensed into a low pressure area. Due to this, the formation of deep circulating clouds continues in the north Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas. Gusty winds may blow in the seaports, north Bay of Bengal and coastal areas of Bangladesh.
The seaports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been asked to keep local warning signal number three (re) three. Due to the influence of the full moon and the high air pressure difference, the coastal districts of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalokati, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barisal, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni, Chittagong and Cox's Bazar and their offshore islands and chars may be inundated by wind-driven tidal surges of 1 to 2 feet higher than normal tide.
In this situation, fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay of Bengal and deep sea have been asked to navigate carefully near the coast until further notice. They have also been asked not to venture into the deep sea.
Another forecast said that there may be rain/thunderstorm accompanied by temporary gusty/snowy winds speeding up to 45-60 kmph from the south/southeast over Rangpur, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogra, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Madaripur, Kushtia, Jessore, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Comilla, Noakhali, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and Sylhet regions. River ports in these areas have been asked to (re) raise warning signal number one. The axis of the monsoon extends from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, the low pressure area and southern parts of Bangladesh to Assam. The monsoon is active over Bangladesh and is strong elsewhere in the north Bay of Bengal.
In this situation, light to moderate rain/thunderstorm accompanied by temporary gusty/stormy winds and lightning is likely to occur in most places of Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and many places of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions till Monday (September 12) morning.
Along with this, there may be heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places in the southern part of the country. The day temperature across the country may decrease by 1-2 degrees C and the night temperature will remain almost unchanged.
