The party's senior leader Mallikarjun Khagge has been elected as the new president of the Bharati Congress and the new president of the Congress has been announced in the central office of the Congress in Delhi on Wednesday.

 After two decades, the party got the president outside the Gandhi family.

Khaizge has lost the only rival Shashi Tharoor, one of the oldest political parties in the subcontinent, by a margin. Khajige has won 7,897 votes for the post of president, 1,720 votes, and 9,950 votes were held by the Congress in the presidential election last Monday, with nearly 96 percent of the 9,915 voting leaders.

The counting of votes will begin at 10 am on Wednesday at the central office of the Congress, which will be held in the ballots from all over the country.

Since independence, the Gandhi family has been the leader of the majority of the Congress, and the last president of the Nehru-Gandhi family was elected president in 1998, Congress treasurer Sitaram Keshari.
