The program of tiger counting has been inaugurated in Kalabagi area of Sundarbans on Sunday. Inauguration of the program of Environment and Forests, Begum Habibun Nahar, said that tiger conservation is essential to protect the biodiversity of the forest, and census is being conducted to find out the number of tigers and the current situation.
After the inauguration, the installation of cameras will start from Haldibunita area of Satkhira range of Sundarbans. In the first phase, the census will be conducted in the Satkhira and Sarankhola ranges till next April. Then the census will be conducted in Sharankhola and Chandpai ranges for four months from November. A total of 665 grids or locations are being installed in the forest, with the trees in the forest, 50 cm above the ground, each site will have two cameras for 40 days and the camera battery and memory card will be changed every 15 days.
Tiger Conservation Project Director and Department of Sundarban West Forest Department Abu Naser Md. Mohsin Hossain said that since December 15, the work of the canals under the Kalabgi Foreign Foundation is being surveyed on both sides of the canals and the work of tiger movement and pawn impressions will be seen through this canal survey. When the camera trapping and canal survey work is completed, all the data will be sent to the Resource Information Management System Unit of Dhaka Forest Department, where the results of the Bagh Census will be announced in June 2024 after review.

Tiger researcher in the census team and professor of zoology at Jahangirnagar University, said that it is very important to know the number of tigers for management activities. If the survey shows that the number of tigers has increased, then it will be understood that the management is good. If the number of tigers has decreased, then it should be understood that there is a shortage of management. Then according to that, in response to one question, he said, he thinks that the number of tigers in the Sundarbans will be increased.
The 1600 tiger census was done in the Sundarbans in the camera trapping system for the third time in 2015 and 2018. Before 2015, there were 114 tigers in the Sundarbans in the 2018 survey.
