Most of the country's rivers have lost their natural characteristics long ago due to encroachment and pollution. Currently, the level of encroachment on rivers has become so alarming that many rivers have become dead canals. The condition of the Brahmaputra River flowing near Utrapur village in Bramandi Union of Araihazar Upazila of Narayanganj district is also similar. A human chain has been formed to prevent pollution of the water and environment of this river.

The human chain was jointly organized on the banks of the Brahmaputra River on Saturday by the Poribesh Bachao Andolan (PBA), Riverine People, Subarnagram Foundation, Uttarapur Adarsh Samaj Kalyan Sangha and Puratan Brahmaputra Nad Raksha Andolan.

The speakers in the human chain demanded that it be ensured that even a small part of the chemicals from the industries do not enter the food chain. In this situation, the government must take necessary steps to prevent pollution of the Brahmaputra River. If there is a delay in finding out the irregularities existing in these areas in the industries across the country, the pollution will spread to vast areas of various rivers in the country. Urgent steps must be taken to restore the normal characteristics of all the rivers of the country, including the Brahmaputra.

Utrapur Adarsh Samaj Kalyan Sangha President Md. Nadim Bhuiyan presided over the program and the organization's General Secretary Md. Hamidullah Sarkar moderated the program. Poet and human rights activist Shahed Kayes, International Affairs Secretary of Poberezh Bachao Andolan (POBA) and coordinator of POBA Narayanganj district, writer Shankar Prakash, executive member of Riverine People's Sonargaon branch, Golam Rabbani Shimul, Utrapur Adarsh Samaj Kalyan Sangha Vice President Md.
