Williamson led New Zealand in the World Cup

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has announced a 15-member squad for the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup, with Kane Williamson as captain.

New Zealand was the first to announce its squad for the T20 World Cup, which will be held jointly in the United States and the West Indies from June 2 to 30. Along with the team announcement on Monday, they also unveiled their jersey modeled after the 1999 World Cup.

Williamson will lead the Kiwis for the fourth time as captain, and will be playing in the T20 World Cup for the sixth time in total.

New Zealand Test captain Tim Southee will be playing in the seventh T20 World Cup. The 35-year-old experienced pacer is the highest wicket-taker in T20s with 157 wickets.

Another experienced pacer, Trent Boult, will be playing in the T20 World Cup for the fifth time in his career. The 34-year-old will be in the bowling attack with Southee.

Pacer Matt Henry and batting all-rounder Rachin Ravindra, who are nominated as emerging cricketers for the 2023 ODI World Cup, will be seen playing in the T20 World Cup for the first time.

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead said, "When you go to play in the World Cup, you will need experience."

He added, "This is a great team with a lot of options like Kane, considering the balance, wickets and conditions."

Pacers Adam Milne and Kyle Jamieson were not included in the team due to injuries.
