Google has fired 28 employees for opposing a new agreement with Israel. The employees recently protested by walking out of their offices in California and New York for 10 hours, according to a report in the Daily Sabah.
The report said that the uprising was led by a group of activists called 'No Tech for Apartheid'. They are unhappy with the new agreement with Israel, especially Project Nimbus. Israel and Google have signed a $1.2 billion deal for this project.
Following this incident, Google sent notices to employees involved in the protest. Even those who supported the movement but did not directly participate in the sit-in protest were also notified by the company's Employee Relations group.
An internal statement issued by Google told employees that such protests have no place in our organization and we will not tolerate such incidents.
In a statement about the protesters, Google said, "Physically disrupting the work of other employees is against our policy and will not be tolerated." These employees refused to leave the office area despite repeated requests, and were removed from the office for safety reasons. We have suspended 28 employees for their involvement in this incident and further investigation is underway.
