Somalia 35 pirates surrender, 17 sailors rescued

The Indian Navy announced this information in a statement on Saturday, according to NDTV.

The report said that the Indian warship INS Kolkata foiled a pirate attack on the MV Ruen, which was anchored 2,600 km off the Indian coast, after a 40-hour operation. Another Indian ship, INS Subhadra, also participated in the operation.
In a post on microblogging site X, the Indian Navy said that 35 pirates on board the Maltese-flagged bulk cargo ship MV Rouen have surrendered. The ship has been checked for illegal arms, ammunition and drugs.
The ship was hijacked by Somali pirates in December. The European Union Navy said the ship may have been used as a base by the pirates for the Bangladeshi-flagged cargo ship hijacked off the coast of Somalia this week.
On March 4, the 13-meter-deep vessel MV Abdullah of Bangladesh's SR Shipping departed from Maputo port in Mozambique with coal for the United Arab Emirates. After that, at around 1:30 pm on Tuesday, news came that the ship had been hijacked in the Indian Ocean.
Ships in the Indian Ocean, which is a risky area due to piracy, are required to have armed guards on board. In addition, various security measures, including barbed wire fencing and high-speed water guns, are in place around the ship. However, none of these measures were taken on the MV Abdullah, which was captured by pirates.
Analysts say that the low height of the coal-laden ship above the water made it easy for the pirates to board it, allowing them to take control of the ship with little difficulty.
