Abdullah Sagar (55), an official of Dhaka University, died after falling from the seventh floor while taking an elevator. He was working as the senior assistant accounts director at the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Fine Arts. The incident took place at the university's Mukaram Bhaban around 10:15 am on Friday. He was rescued and admitted to Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital, where he died in the afternoon.
Abdullah's home is in Kalemeshwar village under Gacha police station in Gazipur. He lived in Gazipur with his wife and three children. He used to commute to and from work regularly.
Alam Faruk, assistant registrar of the Fine Arts Department, said that the admission test for the Agricultural University was held on Friday. The students were seated in the Mukaram Bhaban. Abdullah went there to work. The elevator in that building is very old, which has to be opened by hand. He opened the elevator door on the seventh floor by hand and entered, but at that time the elevator did not reach the floor and fell down and was seriously injured.
University proctor Saifuddin Ahmed said Abdullah was on the seventh floor. He fell down as the door opened before the elevator arrived. Dhaka's Shahbagh Police Station OC Mohammad Khalid Munsur said the body was handed over without an autopsy as the family had no complaints.
