Prisoner killed in lightning strike in Lakshmipur

A fisherman named Mehraj Uddin (35) was killed in a lightning strike in Ramgati, Laxmipur. Two other fishermen named Cheraj Uddin and Bechu Mia were seriously injured in the incident. The seriously injured Cheraj has been admitted to a hospital in Noakhali. The incident took place on Sunday (September 17) morning in the Meghna River at the mouth of Ashwini Canal at Ramgatirhat Fish Ghat in the upazila. The deceased is Mehraj Char, son of Shafiq Uddin of Dakshin Tumchar area of Gazi Union.

Local Char Gazi Union Parishad Chairman Tohidul Islam Sumon said that 14-15 fishermen including Mehraj, Cheraj and Bechu were returning to the ghat with a trawler owned by a local fisherman Mukit Majhi after catching fish in the Meghna River. When they reached the mouth of the Ashwini Canal, lightning struck their trawler. Mehraj was killed on the spot and Cheraj and Bechu were injured.
