Three days after the kidnapping, the police have not been able to rescue the kidnapped schoolgirl or arrest anyone involved in the incident. This is spreading anger among the locals, including parents, teachers and students.

The kidnapped schoolgirl's maternal uncle, Md. Khorshed, said that Oman expatriate Md. Harun (26), son of Momin Ullah of Jangaliya village adjacent to Hazirhat Bazar, proposed his niece's marriage to him. The family members informed the boy's family that they would teach the girl to read and write and would not marry her off as a child.
