Lakshmipur: A schoolgirl was kidnapped in Kamalnagar, Lakshmipur, for not agreeing to a child marriage. Even after 6 days of the kidnapping, the police have not been able to rescue the abductee and arrest the perpetrators. This has created anger in the area. Teachers, students and locals formed a human chain and protested demanding the rescue of the schoolgirl as soon as possible and exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.
On Monday (October 9) morning, students of Falkon High School organized an hour-long human chain on Hazirhat-Ludhua road. After the human chain, a protest rally was held in the school auditorium. Char Falkon Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Haji Harun Or Rashid, school headmaster Abu Zaker, assistant teacher Liakat Hossain, students Sonia Akhter and Miraj Hossain, among others, spoke at the event. During this, the speakers demanded immediate rescue of the schoolgirl and punishment of those involved.
Incidentally, expatriate Md. Harun (26), son of Momin Ullah of Jangaliya village adjacent to Hazirhat Bazar, proposed marriage to the 10th grade student of Falkon High School in the upazila. As the family did not agree to the child marriage, they kidnapped the schoolgirl on Wednesday (October 4) morning while she was going to study privately.
