Lakshmipur:
With winter approaching, newborns and children are being admitted to government and private hospitals, mostly suffering from diarrhea and cold-related illnesses.
With the sudden onset of winter, newborns, children, and adolescents, as well as men and women, are increasingly being seen seeking treatment at the Sadar Hospital with diarrhea and bursitis. Just as they are happy to receive the right service at the right time, the relatives of the patients are also forced to pay for the service.
Belal Hossain and his wife Nasrin Akhtar from Charmansa village of Bhabaniganj union in Laxmipur Sadar upazila, along with their 1-year-old and 1-month-old daughter, Bhavna Akhtar, were admitted to Sadar Hospital on Thursday (October 25) at around 9 pm with fever and diarrhea.
Nasrin Akhter, the mother of child Bhavna, said, "We admitted her to the hospital when she developed excessive diarrhea and fever. Since her admission, a man named Palash has been charging us Tk 250 every two days for treatment."
On the same day, a woman named Khorshida Begum from Tumchar village of Sadar upazila made the same complaint. She said that she was admitted to the hospital with her 9-month-old daughter Tamanna Akhter at around 9:30 am on Friday (October 26) with burmese and diarrhea. Currently, her daughter is getting better after receiving treatment. However, the man named Palash took 150 taka from her.
Ruma Akhter, wife of Hanif, a resident of Chowkidar Bari in Uttar Banchanagar village of the municipality, came for treatment for her one-year-old daughter, Jannatul Ferdaus Muntahar, who was suffering from diarrhea, on Sunday (October 29) at around 10 pm. She expressed satisfaction that her daughter has improved since being admitted and is receiving better treatment.
Relatives of patients in the diarrhea ward were seen treating children in piles and on the floor. As a result, doctors were also feeling extremely anxious to provide services. However, the hospital environment was cleaner than usual.
Dr. Abdullah Alamin (Child Affairs) of Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital said, "Every year, various diseases occur in children at the beginning and end of winter. Most children are affected by cold-related diseases. If timely treatment is provided, children will be protected from these diseases."
Dr. Anwar Hossain, Medical Officer (Residential) of Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital, said that children who are suffering from diseases come to the hospital for treatment. They are given treatment everywhere. When asked about the issue of money in the name of treatment, he said that Palash is not a government employee. He is doing petechials in the hospital with permission. I got the truth after talking to the patient's relatives. Strict action will be taken against the fraud Palash, said the hospital official.
