Lakshmipur:
A clash broke out between two factions of the Chhatra League in Lakshmipur over a trivial incident. At least five people from both sides were reportedly injured.
The clash took place at Mandari Bazar in Sadar Upazila around 8 pm on Monday (October 30).
The injured are Dattapara Union Chhatra League President Kazi Nizam and Chhatra League activists Samrat, Sajib Hasan Taskin and Mandari Bazar businessman Abdur Chattar, along with five Chhatra League leaders and activists.
Police and eyewitness sources said that followers of Chandraganj Thana Chhatra League convener Alauddin organized a cake cutting ceremony at the Mandari Union Awami League office to mark his birthday. Due to internal conflict, followers of Abu Taleb, the joint convener of the same committee, prevented the ceremony from taking place.
This led to repeated clashes between the two sides using sticks. Several chairs at the Awami League office were also vandalized during this time.
Upon receiving the information, the police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
At this time, the injured Chhatra League leaders and activists were rescued and admitted to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital and the local Green Life Hospital.
The district's Assistant Superintendent of Police, Khandaker Shah Newaz, said that the situation is currently under control.
