Lakshmipur: A divorced husband, Abul Kalam (35), and his three friends have been accused of kidnapping his ex-wife, torturing her, beating her, and gang-raping her in Kamalnagar, Lakshmipur.
The victim was admitted to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital on Saturday afternoon (November 18). Earlier, on Friday evening (November 17), the woman was abducted from the Torabganj area of the upazila and gang-raped overnight.
The victim is the daughter of a poor farmer from Char Kalkini village in Kamalnagar upazila. She has two sons and a daughter, aged six and eight.
The accused, divorced husband Abul Kalam, is the son of Anwar Ali of the neighboring Torabganj area.
The victim's mother said that her daughter got married to Abul Kalam 10 years ago. Since the marriage, he has taken dowry several times on various pretexts. He kept demanding more dowry. Last year, he pressured her for a dowry of 50,000 taka. When she did not give the money, he started torturing her daughter. Later, without getting any solution, she divorced her lustful husband through the court six months ago. As a result, the lustful man along with his three other friends kidnapped my daughter, tortured her by cutting her hair, beating her and gang-raping her.
The victim told reporters while undergoing treatment at the hospital that she left her house on Friday afternoon to go to her brother's house in Shahpur village of Lakshmipur Sadar upazila. When she reached Torabganj area in the evening, her divorced husband, who had been on the run since before, along with three other friends kidnapped her and locked her in a room of Abul Kalam's house. During this time, she was beaten and tortured by cutting her hair. Later, they gang-raped her in turns throughout the night. At one point, I lost consciousness. In the morning, they left me on the side of the road and fled. My mother, after receiving information from the locals, rescued me, gave me primary treatment and later admitted me to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital.
