5 Jamaat leaders arrested in Lakshmipur

Own Correspondent: Police have arrested five leaders, including Lakshmipur city Jamaat president Abul Farah Nishan.

They were arrested from Sonapur area of Raipur upazila on Sunday (November 19) night.

Those arrested are Jamaat leader Abul Farah Nishan, Raipur Upazila Jamaat secretary Abdul Awal Russell and upazila branch Sura member Abul Kashem. The names and identities of the other two are not known.

Police said that Jamaat leaders were holding secret meetings in the Sonapur area to sabotage. After receiving this information, a raid was conducted there and they were arrested. There are multiple cases against the arrested people for creating an unstable environment by cutting trees on the road during the 10th National Parliament elections. They were absconding for a long time.

Raipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AKM Azizur Rahman Mia confirmed the arrests and said preparations are underway to file a case in the police station. He also said that the arrested will be sent to jail through the court.
