Hefazat announces siege of US embassy

Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh has announced a sit-in at the US embassy in Dhaka to protest US President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The organization will hold a protest at 11am on Wednesday, December 13.

Dhaka Metropolitan City Ameer Noor Hossain Qasemi announced the program at a protest march organized by Dhaka Metropolitan City from the North Gate of Baitul Mukarram after Friday prayers.

Last Wednesday, US President Donald Trump declared Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. At the same time, Trump announced the relocation of the US embassy from Tel Aviv, Israel to Jerusalem. In protest of Trump's announcement, anti-US protests spread in various countries around the world, including Palestine. In such a situation, the United Nations has called an emergency session. The organization's president, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has called an emergency meeting of the main Muslim alliance, the OIC, on December 13. Bangladesh has also protested the announcement.

Immediately after Friday prayers, various Islamist groups took out a protest march around the national mosque, Baitul Mukarram. Everyone chanted, "We will accept Trump's announcement or not," "Jerusalem belongs to Palestine, Israel is gone." At that time, the angry crowd set fire to the US flag.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Movement Bangladesh, led by Charmonai Pir, has protested at Baitul Mukarram with the same demand. The organization will hold a mass march towards the US Embassy on Monday, December 11 at 10 am.

Hefazat-e-Islam called for nationwide protests on Friday to protest the declaration of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The organization held a large demonstration in Hathazari. In addition, activists of Islamic parties held protests after Friday prayers in various parts of the country. Muslims from all over the country also joined in.
