Lakshmipur: Two madrasa students, Md. Tarek (15) and Sharif (15), who were riding a motorcycle, were seriously injured after being hit by a speeding Laguna in Kamalnagar, Lakshmipur.
The accident occurred on Monday (December 25) at around 1 pm on the north side of Hazirhat Bazar on the Ramgati-Lakshmipur road.
Tarek is the son of Abduch Sattar of Patarirhat Union in the upazila, and Sharif is the son of Abdul Malek. Both of them are ninth grade students of Falkon Siddiquea Dakhil Madrasa. The injured Tarek was sent to Pangu Hospital in Dhaka after receiving primary treatment at Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital. Sharif has been admitted to a private hospital in Lakshmipur.
According to eyewitnesses, when two friends, Tarek and Sharif, were riding a motorcycle in front of the Citycell Tower on the north side of Hazirhat Bazar, a speeding unregistered passenger vehicle, Laguna (Zamidar-1), coming from the opposite direction, hit them head-on. As a result, both of them were seriously injured. Locals rescued them and sent them to the hospital.
Kamalnagar Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Hannan said, "The Laguna was detained from the scene after receiving the information. It was not possible to arrest the driver as he fled. I have asked the relatives of the injured to come to the police station and file a complaint. Legal action will be taken in this regard."
Incidentally, unauthorized Lagunas have been operating recklessly on the Lakshmipur-Ramgati-Kamalnagar road carrying passengers. Incompetent and unlicensed drivers-helpers are in the driver's seat of these Lagunas. Due to this, accidents on this road have increased at an alarming rate. Several people have lost their lives prematurely. Angered by this, locals have staged protests and human chains at various places demanding the closure of Lagunas several times.
