Lakshmipur: A man named Abul Bashar (65) was killed in an attack by his opponents over a land dispute in Ramgati of Lakshmipur. His son Abdul Mukit Sohel (42) was seriously injured in the incident. The incident took place on Saturday (March 09) morning in the Ramdayal Uttar Bazar area of the upazila. The deceased Abul Bashar is the son of Nurul Haque, a resident of Char Algi Union. The deceased's son Abul Hasnat Shawkat said, "Local influential Javed Amin Russell went to fill the soil with weapons and people on a piece of our land on the north side of Ramdayal Bazar. At that time, my father and brother stopped him. Then my father died in their attack and punches, and my brother was seriously injured. Later, locals rescued him and admitted him to Ramgati Upazila Health Complex. On the advice of doctors, he was admitted to Noakhali General Hospital for advanced treatment. Ramgati Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Arichul Haque said, "There was a chase and counter-chase between the two sides over disputed land. It is believed that a person named Abul Bashar died of cardiac arrest due to fear. Legal action will be taken after confirming the cause of death based on the autopsy report."
