Yesterday, in the Gobindaganj area of greater Sylhet, widespread unrest broke out as angry residents flooded the streets, demanding severe punishment for a man referred to as a child rapist. Protesters allege that a man named Rashel Ali is currently serving a prison sentence in the UK, after being convicted of raping a Bangladeshi underage girl in the UK. —a crime they say violates both Bangladesh’s moral fabric and Islamic values.

Local Imams who joined the angry gathering issued a Fatwa, calling for the alleged perpetrator to face harsh consequences and declaring that he should never be allowed to return to Sylhet. The protestors, fuelled by outrage, demanded that Rashel Ali be either hanged or emasculated for his actions. They have also vowed to "amputate his ability to have sexual intercourse" if he ever sets foot in Bangladesh again.

The situation remains tense as emotions run high among the local population. The protest highlights the community's strong stance against perceived injustices and their call for accountability under both legal and religious principles.
