Police arrested five members of a gang of thieves in Lakshmipur, along with five stolen motorcycles and a battery-powered auto-rickshaw.

Superintendent of Police Mahfuzzaman Ashraf gave this information at Meet the Press on Sunday afternoon.

The arrested persons are - Mobarak Hossain of Dakshin Keroa village in Raipur, Md. Belal of Banchanagar village in Lakshmipur municipality, Md. Chattar of Paschim Lakshmipur village, Rabiul Islam Rabu of Changpur village in Kachuar, Chandpur and Md. Sohel of the same area.

Police said that in the wake of a motorcycle theft case, the police conducted a raid in the Mirganj area of the district on the early morning of September 10. At that time, the police arrested Mobarak Hossain, Belal Hossain and Chattar along with a battery-powered auto-rickshaw. After interrogating the accused, five stolen motorcycles were recovered from their custody. Later, a raid was conducted in Chandpur and the remaining two were arrested.

The Superintendent of Police said that the accused already have multiple theft cases registered against them at various police stations. They are members of an inter-district theft gang.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Crime) Palash Kanti Nath, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Mangnethoai Marma, DIO-1 Azizur Rahman Mia, Sadar Police Station OC Mostafa Kamal and DB OC Shahadat Hossain Tito were present at the time.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's family has filed an application to extend her bail. Shamim Iskander, Begum Khaleda Zia's younger brother, submitted the application to the Home Minister on Sunday afternoon.

In the letter, he requested Begum Khaleda Zia's unconditional release and permission to go abroad for better treatment.
Confirming the matter, BNP media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan told the media that the letter was delivered to the Home Ministry this afternoon. BNP Chairperson's Private Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar and Chairperson's Advisory Council member Bijon Kanti Das delivered the letter.

ABM Abdus Sattar told him that the application to extend Madam's release period has been submitted to the Home Ministry. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will go to London to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Elizabeth, who will go to London two or three days earlier on September 19. The National Press Club Management Committee has organized a tree plantation program at the National Press Club. Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud participated in the program.

He inaugurated the tree plantation program by planting a pomegranate sapling in the green zone of the National Press Club today (September 11).

Before starting the tree plantation, Dr. Hasan Mahmud said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, immediately after coming to the country, launched a tree plantation program across the country in 1983 through the Krishak League. When she formed the government in 1996, tree plantation took the form of a movement in Bangladesh. Due to her, the amount of tree-covered area in Bangladesh has increased. Forest land has also increased. The reason for this is that awareness has increased among the people.

The Information Minister said, "I would like to thank the Press Club. Through their tree plantation program, tree plantation activities will be further strengthened across the country." Speaking at the tree plantation program, National Press Club President Farida Yasmin said, "The Prime Minister has asked to plant fruit trees, flower trees, and medicinal plants, and our today's program is in line with various activities."

It is learnt that 30 fruit trees of different varieties including pomegranate, jamrul, chalta, kamaranga, olive, guava, latkon, mango, and jam will be planted in the tree plantation program. Former information advisor to the Prime Minister Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, former president of the National Press Club Saiful Alam and leaders of the National Press Club were present at the tree plantation program.

ভোটের সংবাদ সংগ্রহে গণমাধ্যমকর্মীদের বাধা দিলে সর্বোচ্চ তিন বছরের জেলের বিধান রেখে গণপ্রতিনিধিত্ব অধ্যাদেশ (আরপিও) সংশোধনের সুপারিশ করেছে নির্বাচন কমিশন (ইসি)।

আজ রোববার (১১ সেপ্টেম্বর) রাজধানীর আগারগাঁওয়ে নির্বাচন ভবনে নির্বাচন কমিশনার আহসান হাবিব সাংবাদিকদের প্রশ্নের জবাবে এ কথা জানান।

সাংবাদিকরা নির্বাচন কমিশনের চোখ-কান উল্লেখ করে এ কমিশনার বলেছেন, আমাদের বদলে আপনারা হাজির থেকে সংবাদগুলো সঠিকভাবে কাভার করেন। আপনাদের নিরাপত্তার কথা চিন্তা করে আমরা আইনে নতুন একটা সংযোজন করছি।

ইসি আহসান হাবিব বলেন, দায়িত্ব পালনের সময়ে যদি কেউ বাধা দেয়, হামলা করে, ইকুইপমেন্টস এবং সঙ্গী-সাথীদের ক্ষতি করার চেষ্টা করে, সেক্ষেত্রে সর্বোচ্চ তিন বছরের জেলের বিধান রাখা হয়েছে। এ ছাড়া, সর্বনিম্ন এক বছর এবং জরিমানার বিধান রাখা হয়েছে। গণপ্রতিনিধিত্ব অধ্যাদেশ আইনে নতুন এ ধারা সংযুক্ত করার সুপারিশ করা হয়েছে বলেও জানান তিনি।

আসন্ন টি-টোয়েন্টি বিশ্বকাপে বাংলাদেশের প্রথম ম্যাচ অনুষ্ঠিত হবে ২৪ অক্টোবর। যদিও এ বিশ্বকাপ খেলার আগে ৭ অক্টোবর থেকে টাইগারদের রয়েছে টি-টোয়েন্টি ফরম্যাটের ত্রিদেশীয় সিরিজ।  নিউজিল্যান্ডে অনুষ্ঠেয় এই সিরিজকে সামনে রেখে দুই একদিনের মধ্যেই দল ঘোষণা করবে বিসিবি। তবে দল ঘোষণার আগে বিসিবির অন্যতম নির্বাচক হাবিবুল বাশার সুমন বলছেন আসন্ন ত্রিদেশীয় সিরিজের স্কোয়াডে সাকিব আল হাসানদের দলে পরীক্ষা নিরীক্ষার জন্য হবে না।

শনিবার মিরপুর শেরে বাংলা স্টেডিয়ামে গণমাধ্যমের সঙ্গে আলাপকালে নির্বাচক সুমন স্পষ্ট করে বলেছেন ত্রিদেশীয় সিরিজে কোন পরীক্ষা নিরীক্ষার সুযোগ পাচ্ছেন না ক্রিকেটাররা। বিশ্বকাপ দলে সুযোগ পাওয়া ক্রিকেটারাই থাকবেন নিউজিল্যান্ডে অনুষ্ঠিত হতে যাওয়া সেই সিরিজে। এনিয়ে জাতীয় দলের অন্যতম নির্বাচক হাবিবুল বাশার সুমন বলেন, ‘ত্রিদেশীয় সিরিজে কোনো পরীক্ষা-নিরীক্ষার টুর্নামেন্ট হবে না। যেহেতু বিশ্বকাপের কাছাকাছি সময়ে, তাই বিশ্বকাপের সম্ভাব্য সেরা দলটাই সেখানে খেলবে। অবশ্যই এশিয়া কাপটা বিশ্বকাপের একটা প্রস্তুতি ছিল।

তবে বিশ্বকাপের আগে ত্রিদেশীয় সিরিজই শেষ টুর্নামেন্ট। সেখানে আসলে পরীক্ষা-নিরীক্ষা করার কোনো বিষয় নেই। বিশ্বকাপে যারা খেলতে যাবে সেখানে তাদেরকেই দলে রাখা হবে।’

বিশ্বকাপে দলের ওপেনিং পজিশনে খেলার জন্য কয়েকজন ক্রিকেটারের নামই রয়েছেন নির্বাচকদের তালিকায়। যারা আগেও জাতীয় দলের হয়ে ওপেনিংয়ে খেলেছেন। তবে সেসব সিদ্ধান্ত একটু ভেবে চিন্তেই নিতে চান নির্বাচকরা এমনটাই জানালেন বিসিবির অন্যতম নির্বাচক সুমন।

টি-টোয়েন্টি বিশ্বকাপের দল ঘোষণা করতে এবার ঘাম ছুটছে বিসিবির নির্বাচকদের। কেননা ইনজুরি কাটিয়ে দলে ফেরা ক্রিকেটারের সংখ্যা বেশ কয়েকজন। যে কারণে নির্বাচকদের মুখ থেকে বারবারই শোনা যাচ্ছে তারা ভেবে চিন্তেই সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়ে দল ঘোষণা করবেন।

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that the incident of gunfire by the Myanmar army will be resolved diplomatically on the Bangladesh border.

He said this in response to a question from journalists after the law and order meeting on the occasion of Durga Puja at the conference room of the Ministry of Secretariat on Sunday (September 11).

"We will look diplomatically, we are not going to fight, we will solve the problem peacefully. Today's situation is that ammunition has decreased there.
