Ramgati-Kamalnagar (Lakshmipur): Symbols have been allotted to 27 candidates contesting the Upazila Parishad elections in Ramgati-Kamalnagar of Lakshmipur.
Returning Officer and Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saifuzzaman Bhuiyan allotted symbols among them on Friday (March 8) afternoon. Of these, 16 candidates in Kamalnagar Upazila and 11 in Ramgati Upazila received symbols.
According to the Returning Officer's office, there are 7 people for the post of Chairman, 5 for the post of Vice Chairman and 4 for the post of Female Vice Chairman in Kamalnagar. At the same time, there are 3 people for the post of Chairman, 5 for the post of Vice Chairman and 3 for the post of Female Vice Chairman in Ramgati Upazila.

Former Jubo League organizing secretary Omar Faruk Sagar (Tiapakhi), who is contesting for the post of vice chairman, received the symbols from Central Ulama League acting general secretary Maulana Abdullah Al Israfir (Mike), Upazila Awami League member Monirul Haque Mia (Chashma), Jubo League leader Alauddin Sabuj (Lock) and Zahidul Islam Rony (Tubewell).
Women's Youth Women's League leader Sharmin Jahan Orin (swan), Women's Awami League leader Sajeda Akhter Sumi (coal), and Women's Awami League leader Shahad Akhter Shahida (sewing machine) have been allotted symbols for the post of Women's Vice Chairman.

On the other hand, in Ramgati, incumbent chairman Abdul Wahed (Boat), Sharaf Uddin Sohel Azad (Kappirich), and Mohang Harunur Rashid Molla (Pineapple) who are contesting for the post of chairman have been allotted symbols.

Amjad Hossain Amu, Kamalnagar (Lakshmipur): International Women's Day was celebrated in Kamalnagar of Lakshmipur with the theme “Everyone think, do something new, the new world of equality for men and women’.
On this occasion, a rally was held on Friday morning by the Upazila Administration and Women's Department of Women.

In the speech, the chief guest, Upazila Executive Officer Md. Imtiz Hossain said, "Women are not behind any work. The role of women in society is different. Well-educated women are the craftsmen of the nation. Every woman should be well-educated. Women should be educated. Women abuse, child marriage, dowry, sexual harassment, women's movements."

Upazila Secondary Officer, Tawhidul Islam, Agriculture Officer Iktarul Islam, Social Service Officer Md. Masud also spoke.

The Awami League won a majority in the 1970 elections. But the Pakistani ruling class began to hesitate to hand over power to Awami League leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. When military president Yahya Khan announced the suspension of the National Assembly session in Dhaka, the people of Bengal took to the streets in protest.

The Non-Cooperation Movement began on March 1 under the leadership of Bangabandhu. While the Pakistan army began a massacre of unarmed Bengalis on the night of March 25, Bangabandhu officially declared the independence of Bangladesh in the early hours of March 26, it was the March 7 declaration that inspired the entire nation to resist and fight for liberation.

Following the path of that guiding speech, the Provisional Government was established in Mujibnagar on April 17, 1971. Under the leadership of this government, the invading Pakistani army surrendered on December 16, after a long, bloody war of liberation that lasted 9 months. The independent, sovereign state of Bangladesh emerged.

The March 7 speech of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu, has become a unique and universal speech not only in national life, but also for the exploited and deprived people of the world who yearn for freedom.

On the occasion of March 7, President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued messages. Various political, social and cultural organizations including Awami League have taken detailed programs on the occasion. Awami League will hoist the national and party flags at Bangabandhu Bhaban and the party office at 6:30 am and pay homage to the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Bhaban in Dhanmondi at 7 am.

A discussion meeting will be held at Bangabandhu International Conference Center at 3 pm. The program will be presided over by Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Amjad Hossain Amu, Ramgati (Lakshmipur): Police arrested two accused in a check fraud case in Ramgati, Lakshmipur. The accused are Mizanur Rahman and Firoz Alam. Police arrested them from Zamindar Hat Keramatia area on Tuesday night. Both are accused sentenced to six months by the court. Ramgati Police Station (Investigation) Md. Yusuf Ali said that after receiving information from a secret source, ASI Rabiul along with the help of the accompanying force, the accused Mizanur Rahman and Firoz Alam were arrested. The said accused were absconding accused of the verdict of six months' imprisonment and a fine equal to the amount of the check in the check fraud case by the learned court on 20/09/2018.

Three leaders, including Kamalnagar Upazila BNP General Secretary Nurul Huda Chowdhury, have been released on bail. They were released from Dhaka Central Jail on Tuesday. The others who were released on bail are Upazila Jubo Dal convener M Didar Hossain and Jatiyatabadi Sangskritik Sangsad (JASAS) member secretary Babul Hossain.

They were arrested in Dhaka four months ago. Later, multiple cases were filed against them and they were sent to jail. After a long imprisonment, the BNP leaders were released and the vitality returned among the leaders and activists.

Former MP ABM Ashraf Uddin Nijan said, "On November 6 last year, the police arrested three BNP leaders including Nurul Huda Chowdhury from Kakrail, Dhaka. Later, they were imprisoned with false cases filed against them. I strongly condemn and protest this incident. I demand immediate release from the false cases framed against them."

Amid heightened tensions, the Pakistani Navy has intercepted an Indian submarine as it entered Pakistani waters. The Pakistani Navy has twice stopped the Indian submarine.

Staff Correspondent: RAB has arrested Md. Milon alias Taklu Milon, the accused in the murder case of Israfil, the joint convener of Bashikpur Union Jubo Dal in Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila.

Naresh Chakma, the company commander of RAB-11's Lakshmipur camp, confirmed the matter on Sunday (March 3) afternoon. He was arrested from Chandraganj Bazar in Sadar Upazila on Saturday (March 2) night. Arrested Milon is the son of the deceased Mansur Ahmed of Dainyapur village in Sadar Upazila.

It is learnt that Milon, the accused in the sensational Irafil murder case, was staying in the Dattapara Bazar of the upazila at the time of the incident. Based on a secret tip-off, he was arrested in a raid led by RAB 11 Squad Commander ASP Pranab Kumar.

Incidentally, on the night of March 11, 2015, terrorists shot and abducted Irafil at gunpoint in Kashipur village of Bashikpur union of Sadar upazila. At that time, pedestrian Sohag was shot by the terrorists. The next morning, police recovered Irafil's body from Dakshin Telia village of Chatkhil in Noakhali.
