Youth commits suicide in Ramgati

A young man named Shaheen Alam (23) committed suicide in Ramgati, Lakshmipur. On Sunday (September 1), at around 8.30 pm, he committed suicide by hanging himself from a raintree tree at the door of his house. Shaheen is the son of A: Baki of Dudha Bari, Ward No. 7 of the municipality. According to family sources, Shaheen married a girl named Mithun from Bibi Hat area. They have a 2-year-old daughter named Nipun. Shaheen had been having a long-standing dispute with his in-laws and his wife over various issues. On the day of the incident, he came from his in-laws' house and committed suicide. On receiving the information, the police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

A mobile court has sentenced nine fishermen to one month in prison for violating the ban on catching mother hilsa fish in the Meghna River in Ramgati, Lakshmipur, during the hilsa breeding season.

On Sunday (October 1) afternoon, Ramgati Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Mobile Court Executive Magistrate Asgar Ali sentenced each fisherman to one month in prison. During this time, 20,000 meters of electricity network were set on fire.

Hilsa fishing and sale banned from midnight tonight

Dhaka:

The harvesting, transportation, storage, marketing or sale of hilsa is being banned across the country from midnight (12am) on Saturday (September 30). The ban will remain in place until October 22.

Anyone who violates this ban will be punished with a minimum of one year to a maximum of two years of rigorous imprisonment or a fine of up to Tk 5,000, or both. A notification in this regard was issued by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock on September 19.

It states that according to the Protection and Conservation Fish Act, 1950, the harvesting, transportation, storage, marketing or sale of hilsa has been banned across the country for a total of 22 days (16 Ashwin to 7 Kartik), the main breeding season of hilsa, from October 1 to 22 this year.

The ban period was increased by seven days last year to 22 days. Earlier, it was 15 days. Before 2015, the ban period for catching hilsa was 11 days. It is learnt that anyone who disobeys this order will face a minimum of one year to a maximum of two years of rigorous imprisonment or a fine of up to Tk 5,000, or both.

An official said that this year, the main breeding season will be on the first full moon day of the Ashwin month, and 22 days including the 4 days before and 17 days after it, during the lunar month of Ashwin, which is the month of the moon. This time, the first full moon is on October 5.

Following this incident, Chairman Abul Kashem Chowdhury called journalist Rafiq to his house on Friday afternoon on his mobile phone. Journalist harassed with false case in Lakshmipur

An allegation has been made against Mohiuddin Suman, the scoundrel son of Haji Nurul Islam of Dhangazi Hawladar Bari in ITiatoli village of Sadar upazila, for filing a false and baseless harassment case against journalist Ismail Hossain Jabu, who was the executive editor of the national daily Khabor and the local daily Manab Kalyan while performing his professional duties in Lakshmipur.

It is learned that last Sunday (September 17), Sumon tried to forcibly occupy 13 percent of the land of his two brothers Kamal and expatriate Akter Hossain in 804 plots of land with 4 khatians in Atiatoli Mouza No. 88 under Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila. At that time, Ismail Hossain Jabu and some journalists went to the spot after receiving the news. When they took pictures on camera, Sumon became angry and at one point he was beaten up. In order to prevent these incidents from being reported, he filed a false case against the journalists. There are allegations of terrorism, extortion and various misdeeds against Sumon in the area. In addition, there are allegations against him that he is harassing the helpless and innocent people of the area by giving various false garlands.

Journalist Ismail Hossain Jabu said that terrorist Sumon went to forcibly occupy the land of his two brothers Kamal and expatriate Akter Hossain. At that time, some journalists along with me received the news and went to the spot and took pictures of the forcible occupation of the land, and Sumon became angry and filed a false and harassing case to cover up the incident.
After searching the area, it was found that there are 8/10 cases against him, including terrorism and extortion. Moreover, he is harassing people by filing false cases. The journalist demanded that legal action be taken against Sumon by conducting a proper investigation into this matter and uncovering the real facts.
