Somalia 35 pirates surrender, 17 sailors rescued

Somalia 35 pirates surrender, 17 sailors rescued

The Indian Navy announced this information in a statement on Saturday, according to NDTV.

The report said that the Indian warship INS Kolkata foiled a pirate attack on the MV Ruen, which was anchored 2,600 km off the Indian coast, after a 40-hour operation. Another Indian ship, INS Subhadra, also participated in the operation.
In a post on microblogging site X, the Indian Navy said that 35 pirates on board the Maltese-flagged bulk cargo ship MV Rouen have surrendered. The ship has been checked for illegal arms, ammunition and drugs.
The ship was hijacked by Somali pirates in December. The European Union Navy said the ship may have been used as a base by the pirates for the Bangladeshi-flagged cargo ship hijacked off the coast of Somalia this week.
On March 4, the 13-meter-deep vessel MV Abdullah of Bangladesh's SR Shipping departed from Maputo port in Mozambique with coal for the United Arab Emirates. After that, at around 1:30 pm on Tuesday, news came that the ship had been hijacked in the Indian Ocean.
Ships in the Indian Ocean, which is a risky area due to piracy, are required to have armed guards on board. In addition, various security measures, including barbed wire fencing and high-speed water guns, are in place around the ship. However, none of these measures were taken on the MV Abdullah, which was captured by pirates.
Analysts say that the low height of the coal-laden ship above the water made it easy for the pirates to board it, allowing them to take control of the ship with little difficulty.

400 metric tons of potatoes came from India

400 metric tons of potatoes came from India

To control market prices, 400 metric tons of potatoes have been imported from India in two days through Benapole port in Jessore's Sharsha upazila. The government has allowed the import of potatoes along with rice, pulses, wheat, eggs, onions and green chillies. Revenue officer of the Benapole port's checkpost cargo branch Aziz Khan confirmed the import of potatoes.

The importer of the potatoes is Integrated Food and Beverage. The exporter is PepsiCo India Holdings of India, according to the port authority. A company called Transmarine C&F Agent has submitted the necessary documents to release the potato shipment from the port.
Masum Billa, representative of Transmarine Logistics Limited C&F agent, said that 400 metric tons of potatoes were imported in 16 Indian trucks on Wednesday and Thursday. The import cost of each metric ton of potatoes was 194 US dollars. The potato consignment will be unloaded on Sunday.
In this regard, Benapole Land Port Director Rezaul Karim said, "400 metric tons of potatoes have been imported in two consignments through Benapole Port. The consignment of potatoes is still at the port. The importers are being assisted for quick clearance."
Hemant Kumar Sarkar, Deputy Assistant Officer of the Port's Plant Quarantine Center, said, 400 metric tons of potatoes have been imported from India at the port. Permission will be granted to release the potatoes after quality testing if the importer submits the necessary documents. Earlier, 74 tons of potatoes were imported in three trucks on December 2. No more potatoes have been imported since then.

When will the local trains start?

The Chittagong-Dohazari railway line was opened in 1931. At that time, 6 pairs of trains were running on this route. Thousands of passengers used to get rail service from Dohazari to Chittagong at 12 stations in southern Chittagong every day. Later, the number of trains on the route gradually decreased. The number of trains reached one pair in the 1990s. However, due to passenger demands, a pair of trains was again opened in 2018. Later, a pair of DEMU trains was added in 2021.
During the COVID period, DEMU and local train services were simultaneously suspended from April 3, 2021. Later, on August 19 of the same year, two pairs of trains were resumed, but later in 2023, they were closed for repairs to the Kalurghat Bridge. Till now, local trains have not been resumed.
Recently, the Chittagong-Dohazari railway line has been extended to Cox's Bazar.
The first commercial non-stop intercity train named 'Cox's Bazar Express' started operating on the Dhaka-Cox's Bazar route from December 1. The latest addition was a pair of new intercity trains named 'Tourist Express' from January 10. For good reason, these two trains do not stop at any other station in between.
Many people from Patiya, Chandanaish and Boalkhali areas are working in various institutions in Chittagong city, who regularly commute from their villages. Many students also have to commute regularly to the city's colleges and universities. In addition, various types of vegetables are cultivated in Dohazari. Farmers and wholesalers used to take these vegetables to Chittagong city by train for sale at a low cost. If the train was operational, they could travel at a low cost and avoid suffering.

Meanwhile, railway sources have informed that local trains are going to be launched on this route. The proposed commuter train will depart from Chittagong station and pick and drop passengers from Sholashahar, Janali Hat, Patiya, Dohazari, Satkania, Lohagara, Harbang, Chakaria, Dulahazara, Islamabad and Ramu stations. The last train will stop at the iconic railway station of the tourist city of Cox's Bazar.
It was supposed to be operational from February, but it did not start even in mid-March. But this work should have been on the priority list. Because due to a bridge in Kalurghat, a large number of people in South Chittagong are facing indescribable suffering for a long time. Secondly, a mass-oriented, affordable and environment-friendly transport system like railways should be given priority at any cost. Therefore, we want all local trains in the country, including South Chittagong, to be fully operational.

Bangladesh gave the Lankans a target of 287 runs

Batting against Sri Lanka, the Tigers scored 286 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 50 overs. Sri Lanka needs to score 287 runs to win. Tanjim Hasan Shakib was dismissed for 18 runs in the last 33 balls. This broke the partnership of Towhid Hridoy and Tanjim Shakib. Then Taskin Ahmed entered the field.

Hridoy put Bangladesh ahead by a huge margin with 96 runs off 102 balls. And Taskin scored 18 runs off 10 balls. He scored a fifty against Australia in the last World Cup. That was Hridoy's last fifty in international cricket. After 8 innings, he scored another 50-run innings. This was his seventh fifty in his ODI career.
Meanwhile, Liton Das was bowled on the first ball of the innings in the first ODI of the series. After the golden duck, he was able to play a total of 3 balls this time. However, he could not open the run book. This opener returned after being called today. Liton took an easy catch at square leg in the first over bowled by Sri Lankan pacer Dilshan Madushanka.
If they win the match against Sri Lanka today, they will win the series, if they lose, they will have to wait for the next match. After the emphatic victory in the first ODI, the Tigers are now largely pressure-free. If they win one of the last two matches, the series is assured.
The two teams are set to play at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Friday. The match starts at 2:30 pm Bangladesh time.
Bangladesh XI: Nazmul Hossain (captain), Liton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim, Towhid Hridoy, Soumya Sarkar, Mehedi Hasan Miraj, Taijul Islam, Shariful Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Mahmudullah and Tanzim Hasan.

If you smoke after Sehri, will you fast?

If you smoke after Sehri, will you fast?

The holy month of Ramadan is underway. During this time, all Muslims try to observe the fast in the right manner. This is where many people face problems. In this case, the problem is a little more for those who smoke.

Many people are confused about whether smoking during Ramadan will harm their fast or not. It is natural to have such doubts. Because smoking is not right in itself. It is also forbidden in Islam.
Smoking while fasting breaks the fast. Therefore, a believing believer does not smoke during the day during Ramadan. Now the question is, does smoking during Sehri or after Iftar break the fast?
During a private television program, a question was asked to prominent scholar Dr. Muhammad Saifullah. In response to which he said - What is forbidden will remain forbidden. What is bad is bad. So, try to avoid it. Since you are able to observe fasting as a servant of Allah, you have been able to stay without smoking for this long, then it is understood that you can definitely avoid it. You are observing another fast for the pleasure of Allah. No matter how much you run ahead by involving yourself in forbidden things, you will not be able to go ahead.
He also said, "Forbidden deeds will take you backward. Whoever cannot avoid falsehood, deceit and all the evil things that exist, his fasting will only be for show. Through this fasting, you will not be able to reach the main purpose of Allah."

The size of ADP has decreased by Tk 18 thousand crores

The Annual Development Program (ADP) has been reduced by Tk 18,000 crore. After the cuts, the size of the ADP stood at Tk 2,45,000 crore due to the inability to spend the allocated money in favor of the ministry. The size of the original ADP was Tk 2,63,000 crore. The revised ADP was approved at the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the NEC conference room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Tuesday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.

The Planning Commission said that the revised ADP for the current fiscal year 2023-24 has a decrease in its own financing of Tk 7.5 billion. The ADP had a decrease of Tk 1.69 billion from Tk 1.61 billion. This is a decrease of Tk 1.61 billion. In addition, the allocation from foreign aid has decreased by Tk 10.5 billion. This will bring the amount of foreign aid in the revised ADP to Tk 83.5 billion.

Govt to take tough stand against unscrupulous traders: Foreign Minister

Govt to take tough stand against unscrupulous traders: Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud said, "Just as the government is determined to take strict action against unscrupulous traders to keep commodity prices stable during the month of Ramadan, we also urge the people to be vocal." He said this while exchanging views with journalists at the Foreign Ministry auditorium in the capital's Segunbagicha on Monday afternoon.

Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr. Hasan Mahmud said, despite the sufficient supply of goods, a class of unscrupulous traders illegally hoard goods and artificially increase prices to make extra profits, which is very sad. Prices of goods decrease during festivals all over the world, but unscrupulous traders keep prices high in our country. The government is determined to take action against unscrupulous traders. The campaign is also ongoing. He also raised the question of where the people will go when they form a front against the syndicate of unscrupulous traders.
Before the exchange of views, Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud briefed on his successive visits to Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. He said that he had met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Swiss Foreign Minister Ignacio Cassis on the sidelines of the Anatolia Forum in Turkey on March 1. He said that the meeting discussed various bilateral issues, including Rohingya repatriation and cooperation in combating climate change.
His meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and OIC Secretary General Hissene Brahim Taha on March 5 was very fruitful.
Hassan Mahmud shed light on his meetings with the country's Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Minister of Human Resources and Emiratization Dr. Abdul Rahman Al Awar during his visit to the United Arab Emirates on March 8 and 9.
