জানা যায়, শহীদ মোস্তাফিজুর রহমানের জন্ম ১৯৪৬ সালে শহীদ হন ০৩/১০/১৯৭১ইং তারিখ। মৃত্যু কালে তার ১ছেলে ও স্ত্রী রেখে যান। বর্তমানে তার ১ছেলে মোঃ শাহজাহান (৪৭) ৩ নাতি মোঃ রাশেদ নবম শ্রেণীর ছাত্র, রেদওয়ান ২য় শ্রেনীর ছাত্র, শাহীন (৬) নাতনি জান্নাতুল ফেরদাউস ৭ম শ্রেণীর ছাত্রী ও ১স্ত্রীসহ মোট ৬সদস্য। ১৯৭১ সালের ২৫ মার্চ পাক বাহিনী এদেশের নিরস্ত্র জনতার উপর ঝাপিয়ে পড়ার পর পরই মোস্তাফিজুর রহমান তার সাথীদের নিয়ে ভারতে গিয়ে যুদ্ধের উচ্চতর প্রশিক্ষণ গ্রহন করে ২নং সেক্টরের অধীন রনক্ষেত্রে কৃতিত্বের সাথে যুদ্ধে ঝাপিয়ে পড়েন। ০৩-১০-১৯৭১ ইং তারিখ সকাল বেলা মোস্তাফিজুর রহমান ও তার ১সাথী লক্ষ্মীপুর জেলার রামগতি থানা (বর্তমানে কমলনগর উপজেলা) করইতলা ও তোরাবগঞ্জ রাজাকার মিলিটারী ক্যাম্প পর্যবেক্ষনে গিয়ে পাশ্ববর্তী খামার বাড়ীতে অবস্থান গ্রহন করেন। তাদের উদ্দেশ্য ছিল মিলিটারীর গতিবিধি পর্যবেক্ষন করে তাদের উপর আক্রমন করা। ঐ খামার বাড়ীতে ২জন মুক্তিযোদ্ধার অবস্থান রাজাকাররা টের পেলে তারা মিলিটারীকে খবর পাঠায়, মিলিটারী তাৎক্ষনিক খামার বাড়ী ঘেরাও করে তাদের ধরে ফেলে অকথ্য নির্যাতনের মাধ্যমে গুলি করে হত্যা করে। তার একমাত্র পুুত্র সন্তান তেমন কোন পড়ালেখা করতে পারেন নাই বর্তমানে সে অসুস্থ অবস্থায় আছে। সরেজমিন গিয়ে দেখা যায় এই মুক্তিযোদ্ধা শহীদ পরিবারটি একটি দোচালা টিনের ছাপড়া ঘরে অবস্থান করছে। আধুনিক সুযোগ সুবিধা বলতে কোন কিছুই তাদের ভাগ্যে জোটে নাই। ছেলে শাহজাহানের সাথে একান্ত আলাপে বলেন আমি নিজেই অসুস্থ তার মধ্যে আমার চার ছেলে মেয়ে নিয়ে ঝুপড়ি ঘরে বসবাস করি। সরকার শহীদ মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের জন্য শুনেছি অনেক কিছু করছে কিন্তু আমি তার কিছুই পাই নাই। আমার বাবার নামে রাস্তায় তোরণ নির্মান করা হয়েছে কিন্তু আমাদের খোজ কেউ নিচ্ছে না। বতর্মানে আমার সন্তানদের লেখাপাড়া ও বসতঘর নিয়ে আমি দুঃচিন্তায় আছি। যদি সরকার বীর শহীদ মুক্তিযোদ্ধা মোস্তাফিজুর রহমানের নাতি ও নাতনিদের পড়ালেখার দায়িত্ব নেয় ও তাদের মাথা গোজার একটু ঠাই দেয় তাহলে এই শহীদের আত্মা শান্তি পাবে বলে আমি মনে করি।

লক্ষ্মীপুরের কমলনগর উপজেলার মতিহাট ইলিশ ঘাট সংলগ্ন মেঘনায় নদী থেকে ৫ জেলে অপরহণ করে পালিয়ে যাওয়ার সময় ৪ জলদস্যু কে আটক করে পুলিশে দিয়েছে স্থানীয়রা। রবিবার (২৪ ডিসেম্বর) ভোরে এ ঘটনা ঘটে। আটককৃতরা হলো, লক্ষ্মীপুর সদর উপজেলার চর রমনী মোহন ইউনিয়নের ৯ নং ওর্য়াডের মোঃ শাহে আলম (৪৫), জামাল (২৮), তারেক (৩০), শিপন (২৮)। এ সময় অপহৃত জেলেদের উদ্ধার করা হয়। এর আগে শনিবার সন্ধ্যায় রামগতির চরগজারিয়া এলাকার মেঘনা নদীতে মাছ শিকারে গেলে দস্যুদের হামলার শিকার হন জেলেরা। উদ্ধারকৃত জেলে আনু মাঝি ও জুয়েল জানান, মাছ শিকারে গেলে হঠাৎ ১০/১২ জনের এক দল জলদস্যু তাদেরসহ ৫টি মাছ ধরার ট্রলারে আক্রমন করে।
এ সময় ট্রলার গুলোতে থাকা মাছ, জাল, সোলার প্যানেল, তেলসহ আনুমানিক ২০ লাখ টাকার বিভিন্ন সরঞ্জমাদি লুট করে তারা। একই সঙ্গে তাদেরকেসহ ৫ জন জেলেকে অপহরণ করে ব্যবহৃত মুঠোফোন থেকে পরিবারের কাছে ৫ লাখ টাকা মুক্তিপন দাবী করে। রবিবার সকালে স্থানীয় মতির হাট মাছ ঘাটে দস্যুদের ট্রলার থামিয়ে মাছ বিক্রি করতে আসলে লোকজনের উপস্থিতি টের পেয়ে চিৎকার করেন অপহৃতরা। এ সময় স্থানীয়রা ৪ জলদস্যুকে আটক করে পুলিশ খবর দেয়। পরে পুলিশ গিয়ে তাদের থানায় নিয়ে আসে।

তিন সপ্তাহের নির্ঘুম প্রচার শেষে বৃহস্পতিবার রংপুরবাসী ভোট দিয়েছে উৎসবের আমেজে। বিকাল চারটার পর শুরু হয় ভোট গণনা। আর কিছুক্ষণ পর থেকে আসতে থাকে বিভিন্ন কেন্দ্রের ফলাফল। যত সময় গড়াতে থাকে, ভোটের ফল ততই একপেশে হতে থাকে।
ভোট নেয়া ১৯৩টি কেন্দ্রে জাতীয় পার্টির প্রার্থী মোস্তাফিজার রহমান মোস্তফা ভোট পেয়েছেন মোট ১ লাখ ৬০ হাজার ৪৮৯ ভোট। দ্বিতীয় অবস্থানে থাকা ২০১২ সালের নির্বাচনে জয়ী আওয়ামী লীগের প্রার্থী সরফুদ্দিন আহমেদ ঝণ্টু তার অর্ধেক ভোটও পাননি। তিনি পেয়েছেন ৬২ হাজার ৪০০ ভোট। আর তৃতীয় অবস্থানে থাকা বিএনপির কাওসার জামান বাবলা পেয়েছেন ৩৫ হাজার ১৩৬ জন।

রংপুরে ভোটে অবশ্য বিএনপি সাম্প্রতিক সময়ে কখনও ভালো করতে পারেনি। ফলে এবারও মূল প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতা নৌকা আর লাঙ্গলের মধ্যেই হবে বলে ধারণা ছিল। হয়েছেও তা। তবে ভোটের ব্যবধান গত কয়েক বছরের নির্বাচনগুলোর চেয়ে হয়েছে অনেক বেশি।
২০১২ সালের নির্বাচনেও এই তিন প্রার্থী ছিলেন ভোটের লড়াইয়ে। তবে তখন দলীয় প্রতীকে ভোট হয়নি। ফলে অনেকটা ব্যক্তিগত কারিশমার ওপরও নির্ভর করতে হয়েছে তাদের। কিন্তু এবার ভোট হয়েছে আওয়ামী লীগের নৌকা, বিএনপির ধানের শীষ আর জাতীয় পার্টির লাঙ্গলের মধ্যে।
গত নির্বাচনের সঙ্গে তুলনা করলে দেখা যায়, ঝণ্টুর ভোট কমেছে উল্লেখযোগ্য পরিমাণে আর মোস্তফার ভোট বেড়েছে অনেক বেশি। পাঁচ বছর আগে ভোটের আগের দিন বিএনপির বাবলা নির্বাচন থেকে সরে দাঁড়ালেও ব্যালটে তার নাম ছিল। এবার তিনি ভোট পেয়েছেন গতবারের চেয়ে কিছু বেশি।
২০১২ সালের প্রথম নির্বাচনে আওয়ামী লীগ সমর্থিত প্রার্থী সরফুদ্দিন আহমদ ঝন্টু এক লাখ ৬ হাজার ২৫৫ ভোট পেয়ে নির্বাচিত হন। তার নিকটতম প্রতিদ্বন্দী জাতীয় পার্টির নেতা মোস্তাফিজার রহমান মোস্তফা পান ৭৭ হাজার ৮০৫ ভোট।
সাম্প্রতিক সময়ে যত নির্বাচন হয়েছে, তার মধ্যে নারায়ণগঞ্জ সিটি নির্বাচনের পর রংপুরের এই ভোটটিই হয়েছে সবচেয়ে বেশি শান্তিপূর্ণ ও উৎসব মুখর। সকাল আটটা থেকে বিকাল চারটা পর্যন্ত ভোট নেয়া ১৯৩ কেন্দ্রের কোনোটিতেই গোলযোগের ঘটনা ঘটেনি, কোথাও জাল ভোট দেয়ার অভিযোগও উঠেনি, ভোটারদেরকে বাধা দেয়া বা ভয়-ভীতি দেখানো হয়েছে এমন প্রমাণও মেলেনি।
ভোটের সকালেই আওয়ামী লীগর সরফুদ্দিন আহমেদ ঝণ্টু এবং জাতীয় পার্টির মোস্তাফিজার রহমান মোস্তফা ভোটের পরিবেশ নিয়ে সন্তোষ জানিয়ে জয়ের প্রত্যাশা করেছিলেন। তবে বিএনপির কাওসার জামান বাবলা কিছু কেন্দ্রে তার এজেন্টদের ঢুকতে না দেয়ার অভিযোগ করেন। তবে পরে তিনি আর কোনো অভিযোগ না করলেও রাতে সংবাদ সম্মেলন করে কারচুপির অভিযোগে এনে ফল প্রত্যাখ্যান করেন বাবলা।
ঢাকায় বসে বিএনপির সিনিয়র যুগ্ম মহাসচিব রুহুল কবির রিজভী অভিযোগ করেন, বিএনপির এজেন্টদেরকে কেন্দ্রে ঢুকতে দেয়া হয়নি। আর নির্বাচন কমিশন আওয়ামী লীগ ও জাতীয় পার্টিকে বাড়তি সুবিধা দিচ্ছে।
অবশ্য বিএনপির অভিযোগকে নাকচ করেছেন প্রধান নির্বাচন কমিশনার কে এম নুরুল হুদা। তিনি বলেছেন, তারা খোঁজ নিয়ে দেখেছেন, সব জায়গায় ভোট ছিল শান্তিপূর্ণ এবং এ নিয়ে কমিশন সন্তুষ্ট।
আরেক নির্বাচন কমিশনার রফিকুল ইসলাম এই ভোটকে মডেল নির্বাচন হিসেবে আখ্যা দিয়েছেন। তিনি বলেছেন, ‘আমরা মডেল নির্বাচন করার কথা আপনাদের বলেছিলাম। রংপুরে উৎসবমুখর পরিবেশে ভোট হয়েছে। একটি মডেল নির্বাচন হয়েছে।’
সন্ধ্যায় বিভিন্ন কেন্দ্রের ফলাফল যখন আসতে শুরু করে, তখন আগেভাগেই পরাজয় স্বীকার করে নেন আওয়ামী লীগের সাধারণ সম্পাদক ওবায়দুল কাদের। তিনি বলেছেন, রংপুরে ভোটে হারলেও রাজনৈতিকভাবে জয় হয়েছে আওয়ামী লীগের। শান্তিপূর্ণ নির্বাচনে আসলে জিতেছে জনগণ।
আওয়ামী লীগের আরেক নেতা জাহাঙ্গীর কবির নানক দুপুরে আরেক সংবাদ সম্মেলনে এই নির্বাচনকে পুরোপুরি সুষ্ঠু আখ্যা দিয়ে বলেন, বিএনপি কেন কারচুপির অভিযোগ করছে, সেটা তারা জানেন না।
রংপুরে ৬৫ থেকে ৭০ শতাংশ ভোট পড়ার কথা ভোট শেষে জানিয়েছিলেন একজন নির্বাচন কমিশনার। তবে সার্বিক হিসাব পূর্ণাঙ্গ ফলাফল পাওয়ার পর জানা যাবে বলেও মন্তব্য করেন তিনি।
নির্বাচনে মেয়র পদে সাত জন এবং ৩৩টি সাধারণ ওয়ার্ডের কাউন্সিলর পদে ২১১ জন এবং ১১টি সংরক্ষিত ওয়ার্ডের কাউন্সিলর পদে ৬৫ জন প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতা করেন। মোট ভোটার ছিল তিন লাখ ৯৩ হাজার ৮৯৪ জন। এর মধ্যে পুরুষ ভোটার এক লাখ ৯৬ হাজার ২৫৬ এবং নারী এক লাখ ৯৭ হাজার ৬৩৮ জন।
এই নির্বাচনকে ঘিরে গত এক সপ্তাহ ধরেই রংপুরে আরোপ করা হয়েছে নিরাপত্তার কড়াকড়ি। বহিরাগতদেরকে শহর ছাড়তে নির্দেশ দিয়েছিল প্রশাসন। হোটেলগুলোতেই নির্বাচনী এলাকার বাইরে কাউকে না তোলার নির্দেশ ছিল।
এই নির্বাচনে প্রচার চালাতে আওয়ামী লীগ এবং বিএনপির কেন্দ্রীয় নেতারা রংপুর সফর করেছেন। ভোটারদের কাছে আহ্বান জানিয়েছেন তাদের প্রার্থীকে বেছে নিতে। তবে ভোটাররা নিরাশ করেছেন তাদের।
ভোটে জয়ের আভাস পেয়ে বিজয়ী মোস্তাফিজার রহমান মোস্তফা সাংবাদিকদেরকে বলেন, ‘আমাকে ভোট দেয়ায় আমি রংপুরবাসীকে ধন্যবাদ জানাই। আমার চাওয়া পাওয়ার কিছু নেই। রংপুর সিটিকে একটি বাসযোগ্য নগরী করার জন্য আমি যে নির্বাচনী ইশতেহার দিয়েছি, তা পূরণ করতে আমি আমার জীবন উৎগর্গ করব।’

Rangpur: BNP has boycotted the results of the Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) elections, alleging rigging. BNP nominated candidate Kawsar Zaman Babla made the announcement at a press conference at the party office at the city's Grand Hotel Morse on Thursday (December 21) at around 9:30 pm.
Kawsar Zaman Babla complained that the elections were not fair and impartial. Fair elections are not possible during the tenure of this government.

Own Reporter: A gang of thieves has become reckless in Hajihat Bazar of Kamalnagar Upazila in Lakshmipur. Ten heinous thefts have occurred in the last 3 months. Even though security guards and CCTV cameras are installed in the market, thefts are not being prevented; traders are panicking. The local market management committee and traders have complained to the administration in this regard, but they are not getting any results. On Wednesday (December 20), three shops were robbed by cutting open the cans of the shops. The gang of thieves took away about 1.5 lakh taka from the traders. As such thefts are happening again and again, anger is spreading among the traders. It is learnt that the traders closed their shops and went home like every day. At some point in the night, a gang of organized thieves deliberately cut open the cans of the shops and entered the rice warehouses of Jihad Fashion, Wahab Bastra Bitan and Abdur Rab and stole money. Similarly, three months ago, thieves entered Ayesha Telecom on Mosque Road and took away cash and goods worth several lakhs of taka. Even after 3 months, the police have not been able to recover the stolen goods in that incident. In addition, thefts have occurred in several other shops and houses in the market. Traders said that despite the thefts happening one after another, the gang of thieves is not being stopped. Even after installing CCTV cameras, no results are coming. The police have not been able to arrest the gang of thieves, prevent thefts and recover the stolen goods. Kamalnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Akul Chandra Biswas said that the police operation is continuing to arrest the stolen goods and the gang of thieves.
