One year imprisonment for molesting a schoolgirl in Kamalnagar

Lakshmipur:
A mobile court has sentenced Suman (20) to one year in prison for molesting a schoolgirl in Kamalnagar, Lakshmipur.

Kamalnagar Upazila Executive Officer (Acting) Md. Azgar Ali issued the prison sentence order on Friday (November 24) afternoon.

The jailed Suman is the son of Yusuf of Dakshin Char Martin village in the upazila. Earlier this morning, police arrested Suman from that area for harassing a 9th grade student of Chowdhury Bazar School.

Abul Kalam Azad, in-charge of the Hazirhat Investigation Center, confirmed the prison sentence.

যৌতুক না পেয়ে লক্ষ্মীপুরে গৃহবধূর চুল কেটে নির্যাতন

লক্ষ্মীপুরে যৌতুক না পেয়ে জেসমিন আক্তার নামের এক গৃহবধূকে চুল কেটে নির্যাতনের পর মুখে বিষ ঢেলে হত্যার চেষ্টা করা হয়েছে বলে অভিযোগ পাওয়া গোছে।

তার স্বামী লোকমান হোসেন ও শশুর বাড়ির লোকজনের বিরুদ্ধে বুধবার সন্ধ্যায় গণমাধ্যমকর্মীদের কাছে এ অভিযোগ করেন হাসপাতালে চিকিৎসাধীন জেসমিন।

এর আগে সদর উপজেলার মান্দারী ইউনিয়নের সমাজপুর গ্রামে শশুর বাড়িতে নির্যাতনের শিকার হন ওই গৃহবধূ।
জেনমিন আরো জানান, একবছর পূর্বে মান্দারী ইউনিয়নের সমাজপুর গ্রামের মৃত রাজা মিয়ার ছেলে লোকমান হোসেনের সঙ্গে পারিবারিকভাবে তার বিয়ে হয়। বিয়ের পর থেকে যৌতুক দাবিতে বিভিন্ন সময়ে শাররিক ও মানসিক নির্যাতন করে আসছে স্বামী ও শশুর পরিবারের লোকজন। একবার ১লাখ টাকা যৌতুক দেওয়া হয়েছে। এখন আরো ১ লাখ টাকা চাইলে তা দিতে অপারগতা প্রকাশ করলে চুল কেটে নির্যাতনের পর মুখে বিষ ঢেলে হত্যার চেষ্টা করে স্বামী লোকমান, ননদ তারা বেগম ও শাশুড়ি। পরে স্থানীয়রা তাকে উদ্ধার করে হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করে।
হাসপাতালের আবাসিক মেডিকেল অফিসার ডা. আনোয়ার হোসেন জানান, চুল কেটে ও মুখে বিষ ঢেলে হত্যার চেষ্টার পর জেসমিন হাসপাতালে নিয়ে আসলে তাকে ভর্তি করা হয়। তার চিকিৎসা চলছে এখন আশঙ্কামুক্ত রয়েছে বলে জানান তিনি।
এ ব্যাপারে লক্ষ্মীপুরের অতিরিক্ত পুলিশ সুপার (সার্কেল সদর) মো. আনোয়ার হোসেন জানান, বিষয়টি সম্পর্কে অবহিত নন তিনি, তবে এ বিষয়ে খোঁজ খবর নেয়া হচ্ছে, অভিযোগ পেলে আইনগত ব্যবস্থা নেয়া হবে।




Mother and newborn die at government hospital in Lakshmipur

A pregnant mother, Rozina Akhter (18), and her newborn son died due to negligence by doctors and nurses in Raipur, Laxmipur, on Wednesday morning while they were undergoing treatment at the Upazila Government Hospital.

In the morning, the relatives, who were agitated after receiving the news, tried to attack the hospital. Later, they took the bodies of the mother and son and took up a position in front of the hospital. After receiving the news, the police went to the spot and brought the situation under control. The deceased Rozina is the wife of Imran of Gani Mistry's house in Khaser Hat area of Charbangshi union of the upazila. It is learnt that preparations for a case are underway in this regard.

Hospital authorities and the deceased's husband Imran said that pregnant Rozina Akhter was admitted to the labor ward of Raipur Government Hospital on Sunday afternoon, November 19. At that time, when they asked where the doctor was, the nurses on duty started treatment. Later, the doctor on duty saw the pregnant woman and gave the possible date of the cesarean section on November 22. When Rozina started having labor pains around 3 am on Wednesday, the nurses were repeatedly asked to call a doctor, but no one called a doctor and the nurses kept passing the time by talking to each other. At one point, Rozina gave birth to a son, but the newborn died. Shortly after, Rozina also died of excessive bleeding.

Shamima Jahan, the doctor in charge of Raipur Government Hospital, said, "I have no negligence. The mother and newborn died before I could treat the patient as soon as I received the news. There is no issue of negligence in my treatment here."

Raipur Police Station OC (Investigation) Mohammad Solaiman said that necessary action will be taken based on the complaint. However, initially, there are allegations of negligence by the nurse and doctor.




Theft at journalist's residence in Ramganj

 

Lakshmipur: A brutal robbery took place at the house of a journalist named Abu Taher in Ramganj, Lakshmipur. The family claims that the items worth 1.5 lakh taka including a laptop, 6 mobile phones, gold ornaments, necessary furniture and cash were stolen. The theft took place late on Tuesday night in Paschim Shoshalia village of Darbeshpur union no. 7 of the upazila. Journalist Abu Taher is the son of Abdur Latif of the village and the Ramganj correspondent of the national daily Manab Zamin. Journalist Taher said that around 2:30 am, when everyone was asleep, a group of thieves broke into the house and entered the house. Taking advantage of everyone being asleep, the group of thieves stole a laptop, 6 mobile phones, gold ornaments and cash including 1.5 lakh taka from the house and fled. Later, when they woke up in the morning, they found everything in the house in disarray. Everything had been stolen. The affected family has sought the intervention of the administration to arrest the thieves and recover the stolen items. Ramganj Police Station Inspector (OC Investigation) Jafar Ahmed said that police were sent to the scene after receiving news of the theft. Legal action will be taken after receiving a written complaint from the victim's family.
