Children in educational institutions are being subjected to physical and mental abuse with canes, dusters, and scales. A study conducted by BLAST said that 69 percent of parents and guardians agree with this abuse 'for the sake of discipline'.

Legal aid organization BLAST works in 25 districts of the country. This research was conducted in their work area in 2016. BLAST and Save the Children held a public hearing on 'Eliminating Physical and Mental Punishment to Protect Children's Rights' at the CIRDAP Auditorium in the capital on Sunday afternoon. Fifty-five percent of parents believe that punishment leads children to a better path. 27 percent believe that children become scolded if they are not punished, and 25 percent believe that children listen to teachers if they are punished.

লক্ষ্মীপুর: লক্ষ্মীপুরের রামগতির মেঘনা নদীতে মাছ ধরাকে কেন্দ্র করে ভোলার জেলেরা স্থানীয় জেলেদের ওপর হামলা চালিয়েছেন। এতে ১০ জন আহত হওয়ার অভিযোগ পাওয়া গেছে।

সোমবার (২১ নভেম্বর) দিনগত রাতে মেঘনা নদীর চর আবদুল্লাহ এলাকায় এ ঘটনা ঘটে।

আহতদের মধ্যে রয়েছেন- মো. বশির, নুরনবী, মিজান, আবু ছায়েদ, সাত্তার, আব্বাস, ফারুক বাবুলসহ ১০ জন। এদের মধ্যে গুরুতর আহত নুরনবী, বশির ও মিজানকে হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করা হয়েছে। অন্যদের প্রাথমিক চিকিৎসা দেওয়া হয়।

আহত জেলেরা জানান, রাতে মেঘনা নদীর রামগতি সীমানা চর আবদুল্লাহ এলাকায় মাছ ধরতে নদীতে জাল ফেলি। এসময় ভোলার জেলেরা আমাদের জালের ওপর কারেন্ট জালের ফাঁদ পাতার চেষ্টা করে। এতে বাধা দিলে ভোলার কয়েক নৌকার জেলে সংঘবদ্ধ হয়ে আমাদের ওপর হামলা চালায়। এসময় ছিনিয়ে নেয় মোবাইল ও নগদ টাকা। তবে এ ব্যাপারে চেষ্টা করেও অভিযুক্তদের বক্তব্য নেওয়া সম্ভব হয়নি।

রামগতি থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) মো. ইকবাল হোসেন বলেন, নদীতে জেলেদের দু’পক্ষের মধ্যে সংঘর্ষ হওয়ার খবর পেয়েছি। বিস্তারিত জানার চেষ্টা করছি।

লক্ষ্মীপুরের রামগতিতে মো. রিয়াজ নামের ১৪ বছর বয়সের এক হোটেল শ্রমিককে পিটিয়ে হত্যার অভিযোগ উঠেছে হোটেল মালিকসহ একই হোটেলের অপর এক শ্রমিকের বিরুদ্ধে।

সোমবার রাত ৯টার দিকে তুচ্ছ ঘটনাকে কেন্দ্র করে পৌর শহরের আলেকজান্ডার বাজারের গ্রামীন হোটেলে এ ঘটনা ঘটে।
নিহতের মরদেহ নোয়াখালী জেনারেল হাসপাতালে ফেলে রেখে মালিক পক্ষ পালিয়ে গেছে বলেও অভিযোগ করেন স্বজনরা। এদিকে ঘটনার পর পুলিশ অভিযুক্ত শ্রমিক আবিরসহ আরো ৪ জনকে জিজ্ঞাসাবাদের জন্য আটক করে বলে জানায়। নিহত রিয়াজ পৌর শহরের শিক্ষা গ্রামের সফু মাঝির ছেলে।
নিহতের মা পারভীন আক্তার ও বাবা সফু মাঝি  বলেন, নদী ভাঙ্গা গৃহহীন জেলে পরিবারের সন্তান রিয়াজ। ঘর না থাকায় তারা অস্থায়ীভাবে বসবাস করছেন ছোট ভাইয়ের ঘরে (রিয়াজের চাচার ঘর)। দরিদ্র হওয়ার কারণে ৫ম শ্রেণির বেশি পড়ালেখা করতে পারেনি সে। পরিবারের অভাব মেটাতে ৩ বছর পুর্বে স্থানীয় গ্রামীন হোটেলে শ্রমিক হিসেবে চাকুরী নেন রিয়াজ। প্রতিদিন সকাল ৮টায় কাজে বের হয়ে রাত ১০ টায় বাড়ি ফেরা হতো তার।
সোমবার রাতে হোটেলের রান্না ঘরে তার সহকর্মী আবিরের সঙ্গে কথাকাটাকাটির এক পর্যায়ে আবির ও হোটেল মালিক জাহেরসহ তাকে মারধর করে।
এসময় রিয়াজ গুরুতর আহত হয়ে মাটিতে লুটিয়ে পড়লে তাকে প্রথমে রামগতি উপজেলা স্বাস্থ্য কমপ্লেক্সে ভর্তি করা হয়। পরে অবস্থার অবনতিতে নেয়াখালী জেনারেল হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যাওয়ার পর কর্তব্যরত চিকিৎসক তাকে মৃত ঘোষণা করে। এসময় হাসপাতালে তার মরদেহ ফেলে রেখে তারা পালিয়ে যায় বলে অভিযোগ করেন স্বজনরা। প্রতিদিনের মতো রাত ১০টার দিকে রিয়াজ বাড়ি না ফিরলে স্বজনরা খোঁজ নিতে গিয়ে জানতে পারেন রিয়াজ আর নেই। এঘটনার বিচার দাবী করেন নিহতের পরিবার ও এলাকাবাসী।
এব্যাপারে রামগতি থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা মো. ইকবাল হোসেন জানান, তুচ্ছ ঘটনাকে কেন্দ্র করে গ্রামীন হোটেলের কর্মচারী রিয়াজকে মারধর করলে সে মারা যায়। এঘটনায় পুলিশ অভিযুক্ত আবিরকে আটক করে। জিজ্ঞাসাবাদের জন্য হোটেল মালিকের ভাই জগলুসহ আরো ৪জনকে থানায় নিয়ে আসা হয়েছে বলে জানান তিনি।

মিয়ানমারে আসাম সম্মেলনের যোগদানের উদ্দেশ্যে ওয়াং এখন রাজধানী নেপিদ’তে রয়েছেন।
তিনি এই পরিকল্পনা নিয়ে মিয়ানমার সরকারের সাথে কথাবার্তা বলেছেন। পরিকল্পনাটি তিনি তার ঢাকা সফরের সময় বাংলাদেশ সরকারের কাছেও ব্যাখ্যা করেছেন।

তিনি বলেছেন, আলোচনার মাধ্যমে প্রতিবেশী দুই দেশ মিয়ানমার এবং বাংলাদেশের কাছে গ্রহণযোগ্য কোন পরিকল্পনাই বর্তমান সঙ্কটের সমাধান করতে পারে।

চীনা সরকারি বার্তা সংস্থা শিনহুয়ার খবর অনুযায়ী, ওয়াং তার পরিকল্পনার প্রথম ধাপে রাখাইনে অস্ত্রবিরতির প্রস্তাব রাখা হয়েছে। এতে বলা হয়েছে, ওই এলাকার আইন-শৃঙ্খলা পরিস্থিতির স্থিতিশীলতা বজায় রাখতে হবে, যাতে সেখান থেকে রোহিঙ্গাদের অন্যত্র চলে যেতে না হয়।

তবে এই চীনা পরিকল্পনায় যেসব রোহিঙ্গা বাংলাদেশে শরণার্থী হয়ে আছেন, তাদের প্রত্যাবর্তনের বিষয়ে সরাসরি কোন কথা বলা হয়নি।

চীনা সংবাদ মাধ্যমের খবরে দাবি করা হয়েছে, এই পরিকল্পনার পেছনে মিয়ানমার এবং বাংলাদেশ উভয় সরকারের সমর্থন রয়েছে। তবে এই ব্যাপারে এককভাবে বাংলাদেশ সরকারের বক্তব্য জানা যায়নি।

পশ্চিমা দেশগুলোর অনুসরণ করে ঢাকার রেস্তোরাঁয় প্রথমবারের মতো শুরু হয়েছে রোবটের ব্যবহার। রোবট এখন কাজ করছে রেস্তোরাঁ কর্মী হিসেবে।
গত সপ্তাহ থেকে রাজধানীর ফ্যামিলি ওয়ার্ল্ড কনভেনশন সেন্টারের দ্বিতীয় তলায় চালু হয়েছে এ ‘রোবট রেস্টুরেন্ট। কিন্তু শুরুতেই বিতর্কের সৃষ্টি হল এ রোবটকে নিয়ে। মূলত রোবট দুটির একটির পরনে ওড়না থাকায় সৃষ্টি হয়েছে এ বিতর্কের। আর ইতোমধ্যেই তা ভাইরাল হয়ে পড়েছে ফেসবুকে।

রোবট দুটির মধ্য একটি রোবট, যেটি মূলত নারীর আদলে তৈরি, সেটির ওড়না পরিহিত ছবিটিই ফেসবুকে ভাইরাল হয়েছে। রোবটের পরনে ওড়না বিষয়টি মানুষের নজরে এসেছে। চলছে আলোচনা- সমালোচনা। অনেকেই সমালোচনা করে ফেসবুকে পোস্ট দিচ্ছেন।

বিমান ধর নামের একজন ফেসবুকে লিখেছেন, ‘ওড়না পরানোয় পরিষ্কার হলো রোবট যন্ত্র হলেও ক্লীবলিঙ্গ নয়।
ইহা স্ত্রীবাচক। তাই প্রাণীবিদ্যা আর ব্যাকরণ বইগুলো নতুন করে লেখার দাবী জানাচ্ছি। ‘

তানভীর মৃদুল নামের আরেকজন লিখেছেন, ‘রোবোট এর ওড়না লাগে এই দেশে । লাগার ই কথা । আমাদের নেক পুরুষদের কুনজর থেকে রোবট বাদ যাবে এটা ভাবা কঠিন। যদিও মালিক বলেছেন নারী রোবটকে সনাক্ত করতে তিনি ওড়না পরাইসেন। রোবট এর নারী পুরুষ কি, কে জানে ! তবে পুরুষ রোবট এর জন্য তিনি কি পরাবেন। ‘

জাকিয়া শিশির নামে একজন লিখেছেন, ‘রোবটও আজকাল ওড়না পড়ে৷ আর যে দেশে এত বেকার সেদেশে রোবট চালিত রেস্টুরেন্ট৷’

নাট্যাভিনেতা রওনক হাসান ওড়না পরিহিত রোবটের ছবি নিজ ফেসবুক অ্যাকাউন্টে আপ করে লিখেছেন- ‘রোবট রেস্টুরেন্ট এ রোবটের গায়ে ওড়না! এই রেস্টুরেন্টের মালিক কে জানতে মন চায়! লজ্জা লজ্জা লজ্জা! এদের খাবার অমৃত হলেও তো যাব না। মানসিক বিকৃত এই প্রাণীগুলোকে বয়কট করা উচিত’।

তবে রোবটের গায়ে ওড়না কেন? এ প্রশ্নের জবাবে রেস্তোরাঁর ব্যবস্থাপক তানভীর তন্ময় জানান, ‘মূলত নারী রোবটটিকে সনাক্ত করা বা আলাদা করার উদ্দেশ্যেই এর গায়ে ওড়না জড়ানো হয়েছে’
