Life sentence for raping disabled teenager

 লক্ষ্মীপুর : লক্ষ্মীপুরের রায়পুরে প্রতিবন্ধি কিশোরীকে ধর্ষণের দায়ে জাহাঙ্গীর হোসেন (২৬) নামে এক যুবককে যাবজ্জীবন কারাদন্ড ও ৫০ হাজার টাকা জরিমানা করেছে আদালত। জরিমানা অনাদায়ে আরো এক বছরের কারাদন্ডের আদেশ প্রদান করা হয়। বুধবার (০৮ নভেম্বর) দুপুরে নারী ও শিশু নির্যাতন দমন ট্রাইব্যুনাল এবং জেলা ও দায়ারা জজ আদালতের বিচারক ড. একেএম আবুল কাশেম এ রায় দেন। লক্ষ্মীপুর জেলা জজ আদালতের পিপি জসিম উদ্দিন মামলার রায়ের বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করেন। সাজাপ্রাপ্ত আসামি জাহাঙ্গীর রায়পুর উপজেলা দক্ষিণ কেরোয়া গ্রামের সধু মিয়ার ছেলে।

মামলার এজাহার সুত্রে জানা যায়, ২০১৫ সালের ১৭ নভেম্বর রায়পুরের কেরোয়া গ্রামের প্রতিবেশী বাক-প্রতিবন্ধি কিশোরীকে জোরপূর্বক জাহাঙ্গীর বাড়িতে নিয়ে ধর্ষণ করে। ধর্ষণের ঘটনা কাউকে না বলার জন্য তাকে ৭শ’ টাকাও দেয়া হয়। প্রতিবেশী হিসেবে তাদের মধ্যে চাচা-ভাতিজী সম্পর্ক ছিল। পরে ঘটনাটি জানাজানি হলে কিশোরীর মা বাদি হয়ে ২৩ নভেম্বর জাহাঙ্গীরকে আসামি করে রায়পুর থানায় ধর্ষণ মামলা করেন। ২০১৬ সালের ২৭ ফেব্রুয়ারি পুলিশ ঘটনাটি তদন্ত করে আদালতে প্রতিবেদন দাখিল করেন। দীর্ঘ শুনানী ও স্বাক্ষ্যপ্রমানের ভিত্তিতে দোষী প্রমাণ হওয়ায় আদালত জাহাঙ্গীরকে যাবজ্জীবন কারাদন্ড রায় দেন। রায়ের সময় আসামি আদালতে উপস্থিত ছিলেন। আসামী পক্ষের আইনজীবি জাকির হোসেন জাকির বলেন, আসামি ন্যায় বিচার পাননি। রায়টি সন্তোষজনক নয়। এ রায়ের বিপক্ষে আমরা উচ্চ আদালতে আপিল করব। আশা করি উচ্চ আদালতে আসামি খালাস পাবে।

লক্ষ্মীপুর : লক্ষ্মীপুরের কমলনগরে জুনিয়র স্কুল সার্টিফিকেট (জেএসসি) পরীক্ষা কেন্দ্রে শৃংখলা ভঙ্গের দায়ে সহকারী সচিব ওমর ফারুক দোলনকে প্রত্যাহার করা হয়েছে।

মঙ্গলবার (৭ নভেম্বর) সকাল ১১ টায় তোরাবগঞ্জ উচ্চ বিদ্যালয় কেন্দ্র থেকে তাকে প্রত্যাহার করেন কেন্দ্র সচিব ও উপজেলা ভারপ্রাপ্ত মাধ্যমিক শিক্ষা কর্মকর্তা মো. তৌহিদুল ইসলাম।

সহকারী কেন্দ্র সচিব ওমর ফারুক দোলন চর লরেন্স উচ্চ বিদ্যালয়ের প্রধান শিক্ষক।

উপজেলা ভারপ্রাপ্ত মাধ্যমিক শিক্ষা কর্মকর্তা মো. তৌহিদুল ইসলাম জানান, সহকারী সচিব ওমর ফারুক দোলন নিয়ম ভঙ্গ করে ভ্যেনু কেন্দ্র থেকে মুল কেন্দ্রে যায়। একাধিকবার সতর্ক করা হলেও তিনি আইন অমান্য করেন। এব্যাপারে কুমিল্লা শিক্ষা বোর্ডে অভিযোগ করলে বোর্ড তাকে প্রত্যাহারের নির্দেশ দেয়।



5 teachers including assistant secretary withdrawn from JDC examination center in Kamalnagar

During the examination in Kamalnagar of Lakshmipur, 5 teachers including 1 assistant secretary have been withdrawn due to the seizure of mobile phones from the room inspector of the JDC examination center.

This information was known from 2 separate letters signed by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Nasir Uddin Sarrowar and JDC Examination Center Secretary Maulana Mohammad Ali Hoshain on Tuesday (07 November).

According to the Kamalnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer's office, Maulana Deloar Hossain, Assistant Secretary of Hazirhat Fazil Degree Madrasa Center, has been withdrawn from the dutima due to administrative reasons. He is the Vice-Principal of Hazirhat Hamedita Fazil Degree Madrasa.

According to the letter of the Central Secretary, the 4-room Inspector (teacher) should be exempted from duty to keep the mobile phone during the examination. They are the assistant Maulvi of Hazirhat Hamedita Fazil Degree Madrasa. Akhtar Hossain, Junior Maulvi of Matabbarnagar Daruchhunnat Alim Madrasa. Amir Hossain, Assistant Maulvi of Torabganj Ahmadi Dakhil Madrasa. Hafiz Ullah, Assistant Maulvi Hamidur Rahman of Hajipaza Al Arafah Dakhil Madrasa.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Nasir Uddin Sarootar and JDC Examination Center Secretary Maulana Mohammad Ali Hoshain confirmed the poison.

Incidentally, on Monday (06 November) around 11 am, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Nasir Uddin Sartar seized 17 mobile phones from the inspectors from the inspectors of Hazirhat Hamedi Fazil Degree Madrasa Venu Center Toaha Smriti Girls High School and the main center.

No other teacher and examinee can use mobile phone or any other electronic device in the examination hall except the officer in charge of the center.

Schools locked, vandalized after losing election

A candidate who lost the election for the governing committee in Lakshmipur vandalized and locked the school.

The incident took place at Parashganj Mansur Alam High School in Sadar Upazila on Monday (November 6) morning.

Unable to enter the classroom, the students staged a protest march demanding justice for those involved in the incident. Later, Kushakali Union Parishad Chairman Nurul Amin went to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Headmaster Main Uddin alleged that the school management committee elections were held last Saturday (November 4). Out of the 8 candidates, 4 were winners and 4 were losers. Among them, Sahab Uddin, the candidate on ballot number 7, vandalized and locked the school on Monday morning after being defeated.

Kushakhali Union Parishad Chairman Nurul Amin said, "The incident of vandalism and locking the school is regrettable. A five-member committee has been formed to investigate the matter. The headmaster has been asked to file a general diary with the police station."

5 JSC examinees injured in Kamalnagar

Lakshmipur: Five JSC candidates were injured in a head-on collision between a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw and a pickup van in Kamalnagar, Lakshmipur.

The accident occurred at around 9:15 am on Monday (November 6) in Kamalnagar on the Ramgati-Lakshmipur road. All the injured are said to be students of Udayan High School in the upazila.

The injured examinees are Laiju Akhter, Aklima, Helal, Mousumi and Sohag.

Kamalnagar Upazila Secondary Education Officer Md. Touhidul Islam said that in the morning, when the JSC examinees were coming to the Torabganj High School examination center in a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw, they collided head-on with a pickup van coming from the opposite direction. Five JSC examinees and the auto-rickshaw driver were injured on the spot.

Later, with the help of locals, four candidates took part in their exams after receiving first aid from Kamalnagar Upazila Health Complex. However, Laiju Akhter, who was seriously injured in the accident, is undergoing treatment at Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital, he said.
