Preparation meeting for the great Victory Day in Kamalnagar

A preparatory meeting was held on the occasion of Great Vijt Day on December 16 at Kamalnagar in Lakshmipur.

On Sunday (05 November) afternoon, the upazila administration organized the upazila parishad's spawning room.
Upazila Chairman Advocate Saitad Mohammad Shamchul Alam was the chief guest.

Kamalnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Nasir Uddin Sarotar presided over and Upazila Education Officer Md. Tauhidul Islam's director of Upazila Awami League AKM Nurul Amin Master, Freedom Fighter Commander Shafiq Uddin, Tour's Smriti Girls High School Principal Secondary Teachers Association President AKM Jaded Billah, Torabganj High School Principal Kamal Uddin Bahar spoke.

Heads of various educational institutions, public representatives, political leaders, government officials and local journalists were present in this meeting.

The meeting has undertaken various programs to crop the Great Vijt Day. On this occasion, several sub-committees have been formed.




Child tied to pillar and tortured in Lakshmipur: 1 arrested

A PSC candidate, Shaon (10), was tied to a pillar and tortured on the pretext of stealing betel nuts in Char Palwan village of Raipur upazila of Lakshmipur. Police have arrested the perpetrator, Imran Hossain (50).

On Sunday morning, the perpetrator, Imran, was arrested from his home in the village. SI Md. Ershad filed a case under the Children's Act and sent Imran to court.

The victim, Md. Shaon, is the son of the late Munsur Ali of the area and a PSC examinee of Char Palwan Government Primary School. The accused, Imran Hossain, is the son of the late Sanaullah Khan of the same area. On Saturday morning, Imran beat the child, put a betel nut on his shoulder, took a picture of him and posted it on Facebook, calling him a thief.
According to the child's family, local residents and police sources, there has been a dispute with the family of the deceased Munsur Mia of Char Palwan village in Raipur Union regarding the land of Nur Mohammad Mia of the same area. Nur Mohammad is the uncle of the abused child. On Saturday morning, when Shaon went to collect betel nuts from the disputed land, Imran Hossain, an influential businessman and lessee of the betel nut garden, arrested the child Shaon and after beating him, tied him to a cement pillar and took a picture of him with a betel nut on his shoulder. At that time, a picture of the child's torture went viral from a Facebook ID of a local youth named Khan Mahmud. Upon receiving the news, Humayun Kabir Patwari, the headmaster of Char Palwan Government Primary School, went to the spot and rescued Shaon.
In this incident, the child's mother Hosneyara Begum said, "Noor Mohammad Mia's family is forcibly occupying our property because my husband died. They have leased the betel nuts on that land to Imran. The child, Shaon, did not steal the betel nuts, he was tied to a pillar and tortured on fabricated false charges. I want justice from the society."
Accused Imran said, "I have taken a lease on the betel nut orchard from a local, Nur Mohammad. When I came to the orchard in the morning, I saw that Shaon was caught picking betel nuts and was beaten lightly. His picture was posted on Facebook because he stole them."
Raipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AKM Azizur Rahman Mia said that upon learning of the incident, Imran Hossain was arrested on charges of child abuse and sent to court. Further legal action will be taken after receiving a written complaint from the victims.




RAB arrests terrorist with weapons in Lakshmipur

Lakshmipur: Terrorist Kazi Nizam Uddin (42) has been arrested with a gun and sword in a RAB operation in Lakshmipur. On Sunday (November 5) afternoon, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) 11 Lakshmipur camp company commander Senior ASP Md. Jasim Uddin confirmed the matter to journalists through a press release. Earlier, he was arrested from Yusufpur area of Chandraganj police station of the district on Saturday (November 4) night. Kazi Nizam Uddin is the son of deceased Kazi Siraj Uddin of Yusufpur area.

According to a RAB press release, after the arrest of terrorist Kazi Nizam Uddin, a single-barrel gun and a sword were recovered from a fish farm based on his information. Preparations for a case are underway at Chandraganj Police Station in this incident.




Imams and muezzins of model mosques will receive salaries at government scale

The government has taken the initiative to build 560 model mosque complexes in every district and upazila of the country with the help of the Saudi government. The khatibs and imams of these mosques will receive salaries and allowances at the national scale. The muezzins and servants of the respective mosques will also receive similar salaries.

A draft of the salary scale has been sent to the ministry. It recommends that model mosque khatibs be given the eighth grade of the national salary scale, imams the ninth grade, muezzins the 14th grade, and khadems the 16th grade.

Islamic Foundation Bangladesh Director General Samim Mohammad Afzal said that a project has been taken up to build 560 model mosques and Islamic cultural centers across the country. According to the project proposal approved by ECNEC, everyone including the Khatib and Imam of the model mosque will receive salary allowances on a national scale. The design of all mosques will be the same. The mosques will be built in three categories. In the district cities and city corporations, 68 four-story model mosques of category A will have elevators and AC. There will be 476 mosques of category B. There will be 16 mosques of category C, which will be built in coastal areas.

He also said that the basic salary of a khatib will be equal to that of a first-class officer. He will also receive house rent, medical allowance and other ancillary allowances depending on the location.

Sources said that during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to Saudi Arabia from June 3 to 7 last year, she raised the issue of building a model mosque nationwide and offered cooperation, and Saudi Arabia agreed to it. After returning home after the visit, the Prime Minister ordered to make overall preparations, including the design of this model mosque.




46th National Cooperative Day celebrated in Lakshmipur

“The "46th National Cooperative Day" was celebrated in Lakshmipur with the theme "Let's build production-oriented cooperatives, build a developed Bangladesh." In the morning, a colorful cooperative rally started from in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office and circled the main road.

The meeting was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner General Sheikh Murshidul Islam, and was also attended by Additional Superintendent of Police Anibar Chakma, Assistant Superintendent of Police Saiful Islam, District Cooperative Officer Meher Uddin Ahmed and others.




National Cooperative Day celebrated in Ramgati

Lakshmipur: National Cooperative Day-2017 was celebrated in Ramgati, Lakshmipur, with the theme "Building production-oriented cooperatives - Building a developed Bangladesh".
On the occasion of the day, a colorful rally organized by the Upazila Administration and Cooperatives Department began at 10 am on Saturday (November 4) from the Upazila premises, circled important roads, and met at the Upazila Conference Room for a discussion meeting.
The meeting was presided over by Upazila Executive Officer Azgar Ali and Upazila Chairman Professor Abdul Wahed was the chief guest. Upazila Central Cooperative Society Ltd. President M. Swaib Khandaker, Char Abdullah UP Chairman Kamal Manjur, and Alexander Union A'League General Secretary Sumon Howlader were the special guests.
Upazila Cooperative Officer MA Shahid Bhuiyan presented the keynote address at the event.
At the meeting, M. Swaib Khandaker was awarded the best successful cooperative and 5 associations were awarded certificates and prizes as the best successful associations.
Around 30 primary and one central association participated in the event with banners and festoons of drums and drums.




Human chain formed in Lakshmipur demanding justice for housewife's killers

Lakshmipur:

Locals in Lakshmipur have formed a human chain and held a protest march demanding justice for those involved in the planned murder of Kulsum Akhtar Munni (21), a three-month pregnant housewife, by torturing her and pouring poison into her mouth.

A human chain was formed in Charbhuta village of Bhabaniganj Union in Sadar Upazila on Saturday (November 4) morning. Later, a protest march was held demanding justice for the murderers of housewife Munni, her husband Osman Gani and her in-laws.

UP member Nurul Islam Patwary, the deceased's father Jobi Ullah, mother Shaheda Begum and grandfather Shah Alam, among others, spoke at the human chain.

The family of the deceased Munni claims that Kulsum Akhter Munni was beaten by her husband Osman on October 29. At one point, he poured poison into her mouth. Later, she was rescued in critical condition and taken to Sadar Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared her dead. When Munni's death was confirmed, her husband and in-laws fled the hospital, leaving the body behind.




JSD President and freedom fighter Salahuddin Bhuiyan buried with state honours in Lakshmipur

 

Lakshmipur: Freedom fighter Salah Uddin Bhuiyan, son of Lakshmipur District Awami League founding president late Nasir Ahmed Bhuiyan and president of the district JASS (Inu), has passed away (Inna Lillahi wa Innailahi Rajiun).

A state funeral was held for the deceased at the Lillah Jame Mosque premises of the municipality on Friday (November 3) at around 2 pm. He was later buried in the family graveyard.

Earlier, he passed away on Thursday (November 2) night at his residence in the municipality's Uttar Temuhani area. He was 68 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Laxmipur Government College Principal Main Uddin Pathan, former District Awami League President M Alauddin, current General Secretary Nuruddin Chowdhury Nayan, Joint General Secretary Syed Mozammel Haque Milon, Acting Commander of the District Muktijoddha Command Council Kajal Kanti Das, District JSD General Secretary Muktijoddha Mahbubul Alam, former Municipality Mayor Hasanuzzaman Chowdhury Mintu and Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Mohammad Nuruzzaman, along with a large number of people from different walks of life, attended the funeral.

Incidentally, Salah Uddin Bhuiyan was the General Secretary (GS) of the Lakshmipur Government College Students' Union in 1972.




Three teachers fined for running coaching center in Ramgati

A mobile court has fined three teachers Tk 1,000 each for running an illegal coaching center in Lakshmipur Ramgati. The mobile court headed by Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Azgar Ali handed down the sentence in Alexander Upazila Sadar on Tuesday night. Four coaching centers, including those run by the teachers, have been closed down.

The convicted teachers are Md. Helal Uddin, an assistant teacher at Alexander Model Pilot High School, Abu Bakar Siddique Bablu, a lecturer of Bengali at Char Abdullah Fazil Madrasa, and Md. Faruk, a teacher at Bikalpak Coaching Center.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Azgar Ali said that as part of taking action against illegal coaching centers, a raid was conducted on four coaching centers in Upazila Sadar Alexander on Tuesday night. At that time, Md. Helal Uddin was arrested red-handed while running a coaching center at his own house in front of the Upazila Parishad, Abu Bakar Siddique Bablu was arrested while running a coaching center at a rented house in the Sonapur Bus Terminal area, and Md. Faruk of the Bikalpak Coaching Center in Pir Para was arrested red-handed.

Apart from this, a raid was also conducted on the coaching center run by Alexander Model Pilot High School assistant teachers Nazrul Islam and Mahbubur Rahman on Khandaker Road. However, the teachers of that coaching center called out after sensing the presence of the mobile court. Due to this, no one from that coaching center could be arrested.




Terrorist Laden Masum killed in 'gunfight' in Lakshmipur

Lakshmipur:

Police have recovered the bullet-riddled body of Lakshmipur's top terrorist, Masum Billah alias Laden Masum, an accused in 28 cases including murder, arms and extortion.
His body was recovered from the banks of a pond in Balaishpur, Bashikpur Union, Sadar Upazila, on Thursday (November 2) morning.
Police said that terrorist Masum was killed in a gunfight between local Kala Masud, Shahadat and Laden Masum forces around 3 am. At that time, 2 LGs, a double-barreled gun, a single-barreled gun, 11 bullets, 11 bullet shells and 30 hydraulic bombs were recovered from the scene.
The deceased, Laden Masum, is the son of Maulana Hafiz Ullah of Laharkandi village in Sadar upazila. Police said there are 28 cases against him, including murder and extortion.
Chandraganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Moktar Hossain said that when the police reached the spot after receiving the information about the gunfire, the terrorists fled. At that time, a bullet-riddled body was seen lying in the garden. Later, locals identified the body as that of top terrorist Laden Masum. Weapons, bullets and bombs were recovered from the scene, said OC Moktar Hossain.
