Volunteer group protest and march in Lakshmipur

 Lakshmipur: A protest march has been held in Lakshmipur to protest the attack on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's motorcade.
 The procession was organized on Wednesday (November 1) afternoon by the district volunteer group.

The procession started from the city's Old Court Road and ended at the premises of Lakshmipur Adarsh Samad High School.

On Tuesday (October 31), on the way back to Dhaka after distributing relief to the Rohingya, 20/25 unidentified youths threw petrol bombs next to Khaleda Zia's motorcade in Mahipal, Feni and set the bus on fire. 23,000 students take JSC exams at 38 centers in Lakshmipur

The examinations will be held at 23 centers of various schools and 15 centers of madrasas in the district.

In JSC, 9,720 candidates are participating in 11 centers in Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila, 4,588 in 5 centers in Ramganj, 3,822 in 3 centers in Raipur, 3,487 in 2 centers in Ramgati, and 2,63 in 2 centers in Kamalnagar.

No one other than the persons concerned with the examination will be allowed to enter the center during the examination. At this time, he sought the cooperation of all concerned in organizing the examination in a fair and cheating-free environment and gave several instructions to the concerned authorities.




UNO issues stern warning against counterfeiting in Ramgati

In a meeting with the responsible room inspectors on the occasion of the upcoming JSC and JDC examinations '2017', Ramgati Upazila Executive Officer of Lakshmipur district, Azgar Ali, gave a stern warning and caution against all kinds of malpractices in examinations, including cheating.

On Tuesday (October 31) morning, a meeting was held at Alexander Pilot Model High School with the center secretaries, assistant center secretaries, hall superintendents and room inspectors responsible for the upcoming JSC-JDC examinations, chaired by Upazila Secondary Education Officer Abul Kalam Azad.

At the meeting, Upazila Executive Officer Azgar Ali said that all the examinations this year will be held in a completely cheating-free and all kinds of malpractice-free environment in Ramgati. If any examinee tries to cheat or resort to any other malpractice, direct action will be taken against him as per the Public Examinations (Control of Offences) Act, 1980. He warned the teachers present that similar action will be taken against not only the examinee, but also any teacher or anyone else who helps any examinee in cheating or resorting to any other malpractice.

He also announced that no one other than the persons concerned with the examination will be allowed to enter the examination center during the examination. At this time, he sought the cooperation of all concerned in organizing the examination in a fair and cheating-free environment. JSC and JDC exams begin tomorrow: 32,000 candidates from Lakshmipur

Out of these, 9,720 candidates will participate in JSC in 11 centers in Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila, 4,588 in 5 centers in Ramganj, 3,822 in 3 centers in Raipur, 3,487 in 2 centers in Ramgati and 2,663 in 2 centers in Kamalnagar.

For the first time, in order to conduct exams in a cheating-free environment, the Comilla Board has stopped the room invigilator teachers from performing their duties at their own examinee's centers. It is hoped that this will stop any kind of cheating on the part of the teachers and the examinees. On the other hand, although teachers changed centers in school exams, there has been no news of madrasa teachers changing centers.




7 organizations take oath demanding nationalization

Leaders of 7 teachers' organizations have taken an oath of simultaneous movement to achieve various demands, including nationalization of the education system. It was decided to submit the written demands of each organization to the coordinating general secretary of the Bangladesh Teachers' Association, Principal Md. Abul Kashem, by November 5. The simultaneous oath was taken at a meeting of 7 like-minded teachers' organizations in favor of independence at the central office of Bangladesh Jamiatul Modarresin on Tuesday (October 31) under the chairmanship of Bangladesh Teachers' Association President Azizul Islam.

At the meeting, leaders of 7 organizations called on teachers and employees across the country to unite to achieve their just demands, including nationalization of the education system. They also called on the government to fulfill the just demands of teachers and employees, including providing them with full pension benefits, a 5 percent annual salary increase, Baisakhi allowance, house rent, and full Usab allowance, as promised in the past.

Two youths arrested with weapons and bullets in Lakshmipur

Lakshmipur:

Police have arrested two youths with an LG and 9 rounds of bullets in Ramganj, Laxmipur. They were arrested from Karpara Union of the upazila.
The arrested are Salah Uddin, son of Morshed Alam of the local Lamchar union, and Nur Mohammad, son of Md. Hossain of the Madhya Karpara union.

Ramganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Tota Mia said that they were arrested along with weapons and bullets after conducting a raid based on secret information. There is a robbery case against the two arrested people at the police station. Now, preparations are underway to file a case under the Arms Act, the OC said.

UNESCO recognizes Bangabandhu's March 7 speech

Bangabandhu's March 7 speech has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Documentary Heritage.
Director-General Irina Bokova made the announcement at UNESCO headquarters in Paris on October 30 (Monday).
He said that the historic March 7 speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been included in the Memory of the World International Register.
Things that have international significance are listed in the Memory of the World International Register.
The decision regarding the listing was taken by the International Advisory Committee (IAC). The IAC committee, which met from October 24-27, decided to grant UNESCO recognition to the March 7 speech.
In a response, Foreign Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali said, "Now the world will know about our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. This speech is an inspiration for the people of Bangladesh for independence. The Bengali nation woke up in this speech."‘
With the inclusion of Bangabandhu's March 7 speech in the international document, the number of listed heritages has reached 427.




5 injured in clash between two Chhatra League factions in Lakshmipur

Lakshmipur:

A clash broke out between two factions of the Chhatra League in Lakshmipur over a trivial incident. At least five people from both sides were reportedly injured.
The clash took place at Mandari Bazar in Sadar Upazila around 8 pm on Monday (October 30).
The injured are Dattapara Union Chhatra League President Kazi Nizam and Chhatra League activists Samrat, Sajib Hasan Taskin and Mandari Bazar businessman Abdur Chattar, along with five Chhatra League leaders and activists.
Police and eyewitness sources said that followers of Chandraganj Thana Chhatra League convener Alauddin organized a cake cutting ceremony at the Mandari Union Awami League office to mark his birthday. Due to internal conflict, followers of Abu Taleb, the joint convener of the same committee, prevented the ceremony from taking place.
This led to repeated clashes between the two sides using sticks. Several chairs at the Awami League office were also vandalized during this time.
Upon receiving the information, the police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

At this time, the injured Chhatra League leaders and activists were rescued and admitted to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital and the local Green Life Hospital.
The district's Assistant Superintendent of Police, Khandaker Shah Newaz, said that the situation is currently under control.
