Lakshmipur Correspondent, Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila Awami League General Secretary and Sadar Upazila Joypur Union Parishad Chairman Abul Kashem Chowdhury summoned journalist Rafiqul Islam to his house and beat him up for publishing news of various irregularities and corruption. He was rescued and admitted to Sadar Hospital in a seriously injured condition. The incident took place on Friday afternoon at the chairman's own house.

The seriously injured journalist is the editor of the local daily Lakshmipur Kantha. The incident has sparked outrage and condemnation among local journalists.

According to injured journalist Rafiqul Islam and local sources in the hospital on Saturday morning, several news reports were published in the local daily Lakshmipur Kantha and national newspapers about irregularities and corruption in various projects of Sadar Upazila Awami League and Uttar Joypur Union Parishad Chairman Abul Kashem Chowdhury and his union parishad.
Following this incident, Chairman Abul Kashem Chowdhury called journalist Rafiq to his house on Friday afternoon on his mobile phone. At that time, the Chairman and his men beat up journalist Rafiqul Islam, seriously injuring him. Later, locals rescued him in a seriously injured condition and admitted him to Sadar Hospital.

Meanwhile, recently, Abul Kashem Chowdhury summoned freedom fighter Nur Mohammad to his union parishad office in the same manner, beat him up, and locked him in the toilet.
Journalists working in the district expressed strong condemnation and anger over the attack on journalist Rafiqul Islam and demanded the arrest of the chairman and his gang of terrorists involved in the incident.

Although Abul Kashem Chowdhury, the general secretary of the Sadar Upazila Awami League and chairman of the North Joypur Union Parishad, was contacted several times by mobile phone regarding the attack, he did not answer the call.

In this regard, Police Superintendent ASM Mahatab Uddin said that legal action will be taken after investigation if a complaint is received.

 




Journalist harassed with false case in Lakshmipur

An allegation has been made against Mohiuddin Suman, the scoundrel son of Haji Nurul Islam of Dhangazi Hawladar Bari in ITiatoli village of Sadar upazila, for filing a false and baseless harassment case against journalist Ismail Hossain Jabu, who was the executive editor of the national daily Khabor and the local daily Manab Kalyan while performing his professional duties in Lakshmipur.

It is learned that last Sunday (September 17), Sumon tried to forcibly occupy 13 percent of the land of his two brothers Kamal and expatriate Akter Hossain in 804 plots of land with 4 khatians in Atiatoli Mouza No. 88 under Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila. At that time, Ismail Hossain Jabu and some journalists went to the spot after receiving the news. When they took pictures on camera, Sumon became angry and at one point he was beaten up. In order to prevent these incidents from being reported, he filed a false case against the journalists. There are allegations of terrorism, extortion and various misdeeds against Sumon in the area. In addition, there are allegations against him that he is harassing the helpless and innocent people of the area by giving various false garlands.

Journalist Ismail Hossain Jabu said that terrorist Sumon went to forcibly occupy the land of his two brothers Kamal and expatriate Akter Hossain. At that time, some journalists along with me received the news and went to the spot and took pictures of the forcible occupation of the land, and Sumon became angry and filed a false and harassing case to cover up the incident.
After searching the area, it was found that there are 8/10 cases against him, including terrorism and extortion. Moreover, he is harassing people by filing false cases. The journalist demanded that legal action be taken against Sumon by conducting a proper investigation into this matter and uncovering the real facts.

It was not possible to obtain Suman's statement on this matter as his mobile phone was switched off.

 




Jubo League leader's indecent behavior with chairman in Kamalnagar, protest in protest

The local people have staged a protest against the indecent behavior of Hazirhat Union Parishad (UP) Chairman and Upazila Awami League Senior Vice President Nizam Uddin and Upazila Jubo League Joint Convener Ahsan Ullah Hiron in Kamalnagar Upazila of Lakshmipur.

A protest procession took out at Hazirhat Bazaar in Kamalnagar Upazila Sadar on Thursday (September 28) afternoon. The procession started from the UP office and circled the market. Local leaders and activists, UP members and people from different walks of life participated in it. Later, they met at the Union Parishad office for a protest rally.

Hazirhat Union Parishad Chairman Nizam Uddin, District Parishad member and Jubo League leader Rigyas Uddin Molla, Upazila Awami League Publicity Secretary Md. Raihan, Hazirhat Union Jubo League convener and UP member Apel Mahmud, UP member Md. Selim, UP member Md. Harun and Upazila Jubo League member Amir Hossain Shipon among others spoke at the protest rally.

The speakers said that Jubo League leader Hiron cannot behave in such an indecent and obscene manner towards a public representative. They demanded that local MP Abdullah Al Mamun take necessary action in this regard.

UP Chairman Nizam Uddin said that in the last Zilla Parishad election, Jubo League leader Hiron was a candidate. He has been angry since he was not voted for in that election and lost the election. On the night of Wednesday (September 27), Abdullah Al Mamun, MP from Lakshmipur-4 (Ramgati-Kamalnagar) constituency, went to visit the puja mandap. During this time, he behaved indecently and used obscene language over a trivial incident. Due to which the local people and party leaders and activists staged a protest and rally.

Upazila Jubo League joint convener Ahsan Ullah Hiron said that UP Chairman Nizam Uddin pushed Kamalnagar Upazila Jubo League former president Fazlul Haque Sabuj while he was visiting the puja pavilion. There was an argument with him over this incident. The matter of indecent behavior is not true.

Lakshmipur: A rally and discussion meeting were held in Lakshmipur to mark International Right to Information Day.
On Thursday (September 28) morning, a colorful rally was organized by the Conscious Citizens Committee (Snac) and in collaboration with the district administration to mark the day.
The rally started from the Sadar Upazila Parishad premises and ended in front of the Collectorate building.
Later, a discussion meeting was held in the District Commissioner's conference room.
Deputy Commissioner Homayra Begum was the chief guest at the event, chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Murshidul Islam.
Local Government Deputy Director Mir Shawkat Hossain, Additional Superintendent of Police Anirban Chakma, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Mohammad Nuruzzaman and District Information Officer Abdullah Al Mamun were present.




A-League-Jubeir League face off in Kamalnagar in presence of MP

A clash broke out between the Awami League and Jubo League in Kamalnagar, Laxmipur, over the sitting at a puja mandap in the presence of an MP. The incident took place at around 8:45 pm on Wednesday (September 27) in Hazirhat Bazar in front of Hazirhat Sri Sri Hari Narayan Sevashram in the upazila. Police present at the spot brought the situation under control.

The incident has caused pent-up anger among market traders, worshippers and the general public. However, eyewitnesses said that tensions have been rising between the Awami League and the Jubo League.

Abdullah Al Mamun, MP for Lakshmipur-4 (Ramgati-Kamalnagar) constituency, visited the Hazirhat Bazar Puja Mandap.
At that time, Upazila A'League Senior Vice President and Hazirhat Union Parishad Chairman Md. Nizam Uddin suddenly pushed him with both hands. Later, after the event, Fazlul Haque Sabuj and Jubo League joint convener Ahsan Ullah Hiron informed the MP about the matter.
During this time, UP Chairman Md. Nizam Uddin, Haji Harun Rashid and Jubo League leader Hiron had an argument, inappropriate behavior and a fight between them, which was controlled by the police present.
Meanwhile, Kamalnagar Upazila AL Senior Vice President and Hazirhat Union Parishad Chairman Md. Nizam Uddin denied the incident.
He said, "No such incident of Sabuj and Hiran has happened to me."
Multiple attempts to contact Lakshmipur-4 (Ramgati-Kamalnagar) MP Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun on mobile phone to inquire about the incident were unsuccessful.




New committee of Kaler Kantha's Shuvo Sangha

 

Lakshmipur District Committee of Shuvo Sangha, the readers' organization of Kaler Kantha, has expressed its determination to build a social and family movement against the deadly drug, Lakshmipur Representative.

Youth arrested for insulting Bangabandhu and Prime Minister in Ramgati

Police have arrested a young man named Md. Raihan Uddin (25) in Ramgati, Lakshmipur, for insulting Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Facebook.

On Wednesday (September 27) afternoon, Upazila Jubo League President Mejbah Uddin (VP Helal) filed a case against him at Ramgati Police Station under the Information Technology Act. Earlier, police arrested Raihan Uddin from his own house on Tuesday night.

Raihan Uddin is the son of Abul Hasem of Tumchar village in Char Ramiz Union of Ramgati Upazila.

The plaintiff in the case, Upazila Jubo League President VP Helal, said, "Recently, the young man insulted Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the comments box of the status of Upazila Awami League General Secretary Abdul Wahed and my personal social media Facebook ID. When I complained to the police station about this, the police arrested him."

Ramgati Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Iqbal Hossain said a case has been filed at the police station regarding the incident. He will be arrested and sent to court in that case.




Assembly and inauguration of the Secondary Teachers' Association in Kamalnagar

Lakshmipur: An introduction meeting and inauguration ceremony for the newly elected committee of the Secondary School Teachers' Association has been organized in Kamalnagar, Lakshmipur.
The rally was organized on Wednesday (October 27) afternoon at the Upazila Toaha Memorial Girls' High School grounds.
At the beginning of the program, the leaders of the newly elected teachers' association welcomed the chief guest with flowers.

Housewife's body recovered in Lakshmipur, husband arrested

Police have recovered the body of a housewife named Shahida Begum in Raipur, Laxmipur. The family alleges that the housewife was strangled to death by her husband Anwar Hossain over a family dispute.
Police have arrested the accused Anwar in this incident.
The body of the deceased was sent to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital for autopsy around 11 am on Monday. Earlier, the incident took place around 11 pm on Sunday in the Mollar Hat area of Raipur upazila.
The deceased was identified as Shahida Begum, daughter of local deceased Abdur Chattar Hawlader.
Police and the deceased's cousin Kalu Howlader said that Shahida Begum and Anwar were married ten years ago in the Akhan Bazar area of Mollar Hat in Raipur upazila. Since then, Anwar had been living in his father-in-law's house as a house-sister. On Sunday night, Anwar strangled his wife Shahida to death after a family dispute and tried to escape.
Later, locals arrested him and handed him over to the police. Later, the police recovered the body of the deceased from the scene and sent it to the hospital.
Raipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge AKM Azizur Rahman confirmed the incident and said that initially it is believed to be a murder. Her husband Anwar has been arrested in connection with the incident and preparations are underway to file a case in this regard, he said.
