আজ বুধবার সকাল থেকে সন্ধ্যা পর্যন্ত উপজেলা রিটার্নিং কর্মকর্তার অফিস থেকে সাতজন চেয়ারম্যান ও ভাইস চেয়ারম্যান প্রার্থী মনোনয়ন ফরম সংগ্রহ করেন। এদের মধ্যে চেয়ারম্যান পদে উপজেলা ১৪ দলীয় ঐক্যজোটের সভাপতি এড.আনোয়ারুল হক, সাবেক মহিলা লীগ নেত্রী রেবেকা মহসিন, পুরুষ ভাইস চেয়ারম্যান পদে আ,লীগ সদস্য হাজ্বী মনিরুল হক, সাবেক যুবলীগ সভাপতি ফজলুল হক সবুজ,কেন্দ্রীয় ওলামা লীগ সম্পাদক মাঃ ঈসরাফিল এবং মহিলা ভাইস চেয়ারম্যান পদে মহিলা আ,লীগ সভাপতি সাজেদা আক্তার সুমি,সাবেক আ,লীগ নেতা সহ-ধর্মিনী নাজমুন নাহার সুলতানা মনোনয়ন ফরম সংগ্রহ করেন।

এর আগে মঙলবার পাঁচ প্রার্থী মনোনয়ন ফরম সংগ্রহ করেন। এরা হলেন,  পুরুষ ভাইস -চেয়ারম্যান পদে উপজেলা যুবলীগ নেতা ওমর ফারুক সাগর, আ,লীগ নেতা আলা উদ্দিন সবুজ ও সাবেক ছাত্রলীগ নেতা জাহিদুল ইসলাম রনি, মহিলা ভাইস চেয়ারম্যান পদে উপজেলা যুব মহিলা লীগের সদস্য ও  যুবলীগ নেতার সহ-ধর্মিনী শারমিন জাহান অরিন এবং সাবেক মহিলা আ,লীগ নেত্রী রোখসানা আকতার রক্সী ফরম সংগ্রহ করেন।

উপজেলা নির্বাচন অফিস সহকারী মোঃ ইকবাল হোসেন জানান, এ পর্যন্ত চেয়ারম্যান -পুরুষ,মহিলা ভাইস চেয়ারম্যান পদে ১২ জন প্রার্থী মনোনয়ন ফরম সংগ্রহ করেন।

প্রসঙ্গত, আগামী ২৪ মার্চ লক্ষ্মীপুরের কমলনগর উপজেলায় ভোট গ্রহন অনুষ্ঠিত হবে।

Dhaka:

Two thousand educational institutions have been identified as eligible for MPO registration. The work of MPO registration will begin soon in a phased manner.

Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni said this in response to a supplementary question from opposition Jatiya Party MP Pir Fazlur Rahman during the question-and-answer session of the National Assembly held under the chairmanship of Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury on Sunday (February 17).

The Education Minister said that various educational institutions have applied online and provided information about their institutions. 9,500 applications were received. Out of these, 2,000 educational institutions have been considered eligible. The institutions have filled in the information requested. This has been done through a computerized process. MPO enrollment will be done step by step, subject to the receipt of funds from within.

"I can't do everything at once. I have already spoken to the Finance Minister. I will be able to start the MPO registration work soon."

In response to a written question from Awami League MP M Abdul Latif, the Education Minister said that due to timely and appropriate measures taken by the Ministry of Education, there was no question leak in the 2018 JSC, SSC, HSC and equivalent examinations. Even rumors of question leaks did not spread. There has been no incident of question leaks in the SSC examinations held in 2019 so far.

He also said that the government has several proposals regarding changing the examination system. The proposals are being examined and examined. The issue of changing the examination system will be considered in light of reality. The Ministry of Education has taken all possible measures to prevent question leaks in public examinations.

Lakshmipur: Two siblings drowned in the Bhulua River in Kamalnagar, Lakshmipur.

The accident occurred on Saturday (February 16) evening in Ward No. 7 adjacent to Karunanagar area of Char Kadira Union of the upazila.

The deceased were Hasna Akhter (9), daughter of garment worker Hossain Ahmed, and his son Hamid (1.5 years old), a resident of the ward.

The deceased's grandmother, Nur Jahan Begum, alleged that local influential people had built a dam in the Bhulua River near their house to cultivate fish and hunt. While crossing the dam with their younger brother Hamid and sister Hasna, the two siblings fell into the river and drowned. Locals rescued them and took them to the Kamalnagar Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared both of them dead.

Kamalnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC, Investigation) Alamgir Hossain confirmed the matter and said that legal action will be taken after investigating the matter.

Kamalnagar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Imtiaz Hossain said that action will be taken after investigating the allegations of fish farming and fishing by building dams in the river.

Dhaka:

Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Barrister Abdur Razzak has resigned from the party, the party's official website reported. The information was announced in a statement signed by Abdur Razzak's personal assistant Kausar Hamid on Friday.

Abdur Razzak sent his resignation letter to party chief Maqbool Ahmed in a letter sent from the UK on Friday morning.

Barrister Razzak's eldest son, Barrister Ehsan A Siddique, said regarding his father's resignation from Jamaat, "The incident is true. However, his personal assistant Kausar Sahib knows everything about this matter. Please contact him."

Abdur Razzak's resignation was mainly due to the party's role during the Liberation War in 1971. Barrister Razzak said in his resignation letter that for the past two decades, he has been trying to convince Jamaat that there should be an open discussion about the party's role in 1971 and that it should apologize to the nation, citing Jamaat's role and the reasons for supporting Pakistan during that time.
In his resignation letter, he also mentioned that it is the demand of the hour to build a democratic party based on Islamic values under Bangladesh's secular constitution, but Jamaat has not been able to reform itself according to that demand so far.

In the letter, Barrister Razzak said, "Even today, 47 years after independence, the party leaders have not been able to apologize for their role in 1971. They have not even explained the party's position on the great war of independence."

He said, "More than at any time in the past, it is now more important to take a clear stand with the nation, admitting mistakes and apologizing on behalf of the leaders of that time regarding the harmful role of Jamaat during the 1971 Liberation War."

The proposal to apologize to the nation for its role during the Liberation War and to become active in politics by forming a party under a new name has recently come under renewed discussion in Jamaat-e-Islami. A section of the party's leadership is in favor of such a proposal. This section wants to keep the party active under its current name, acknowledging the mistakes of 1971, or to form a party under a new name.
The party's Central Executive Council recently held an emergency meeting to assess the political situation after the elections on December 30. In the face of demands from the party's young leadership, the meeting took a principled decision to apologize for the wrong political role of 1971 and to dissolve the party called Jamaat and engage the party in social service activities. Later, the matter did not get approval from the party's highest policy-making body, the Majlis-e-Shura. There, almost everyone agreed on the decision to no longer be in the 20-party alliance and not participate in any level of elections.

Abdur Razzak has been based in London for a long time. Before moving to London, he worked as the chief prosecutor for Jamaat leaders accused of war crimes at the International Crimes Tribunal from 2011 to 2015.

আগামী ২৪ মার্চ তৃতীয় ধাপে আরো ১২৭ উপজেলায় ভোটগ্রহণ করা হবে।

বৃহস্পতিবার (১৪ ফেব্রুয়ারি) বিকেলে নির্বাচন কমিশনের (ইসি) যুগ্ম-সচিব (জনসংযোগ) এসএম আসাদুজ্জামান সাংবাদিকদের এ তথ্য জানান।

আসাদুজ্জামান বলেন, তৃতীয় ধাপে মনোয়নপত্র দাখিলের শেষ দিন ২৬ ফেব্রুয়ারি, বাছাই ২৮ ফেব্রুয়ারি, প্রত্যাহার ৭ মার্চ এবং ভোটগ্রহণ করা হবে ২৪ মার্চ।

এর আগে ইসির ঘোষিত তফসিল অনুযায়ী, প্রথম ধাপে ৮৭ উপজেলায় ১০ মার্চ ও দ্বিতীয় ধাপে ১২৯ উপজেলায় ১৮ মার্চ ভোটগ্রহণের তারিখ নির্ধারণ করা আছে।

এছাড়া চতুর্থ ধাপে ৩১ মার্চ এবং বাকি উপজেলাগুলোতে ১৮ জুলাই ভোটগ্রহণ করা হবে।
