Prime Minister's Food Relief (GR) rice has been distributed among families affected by Cyclone "Sitrang".

On Thursday (October 27) afternoon, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Overall) of the district, Mohammad Nur A Alam, distributed these gifts to the affected families of Sahebar Hat Union of Kamalnagar Upazila of Lakshmipur district.

Also present at the event were Upazila Chairman Mezbah Uddin Ahmed Bappi, Upazila Executive Officer Md. Kamruzzaman, Saheber Hat Union Parishad Chairman Abul Khair, Upazila Fisheries Officer Abdul Kuddus, Project Implementation Officer Representative Abul Basar Nayan, Kamalnagar Press Club General Secretary AI Tarek and many others.

It is worth mentioning that due to the absence of embankments due to the impact of Cyclone "Sitrang", the people of Char Kalkini, Saheber Hat, Char Falkon, Patarir Hat, Char Matin Unions of the upazila were stranded in the water of the Meghna River. As a result, various food items including rice, pulses, oil, salt were distributed to these helpless families by the district and upazila administration.

ইসি কর্মকর্তারা জানিয়েছেন, আইনে প্রতি সংসদ নির্বাচনের আগে নতুন দলগুলোকে নিবন্ধন দেওয়ার জন্য আবেদন আহ্বান করার বিধান রয়েছে। সে মোতাবেক গত ২৬ মে দলগুলোর কাছে আবেদন আহ্বান করে ২৯ আগস্ট পর্যন্ত সময় বেঁধে দেয় সংস্থাটি। পরে অনেকের আবেদনের ভিত্তিতে আরও দুমাস সময় বাড়ায় ইসি।

এক এগার সরকারের সময় ড. এ টি এম শামসুল হুদার নেতৃত্বাধীন কমিশন ২০০৮ সালে দেশে প্রথমবারের মতো দলগুলোকে নিবন্ধন দেয়। সে সময় ১১৭টি দল আবেদন করেছিল। যাচাই-বাছাইয়ের পর নিবন্ধন পায় ৩৯টি দল। সব মিলিয়ে গত ১৪ বছরে মোট ৪৪টি দলকে নিবন্ধন দিয়েছে ইসি। এর মধ্যে শর্ত পূরণে ব্যর্থ হওয়ায় ও আদালতের নির্দেশে পাঁচটি দলের নিবন্ধন বাতিলও করা হয়। ফলে বর্তমানে ইসিতে নিবন্ধিত রাজনৈতিক দল রয়েছে ৩৯টি।

এ পর্যন্ত যে পাঁচ দলের নিবন্ধন বাতিল হয়েছে, সেগুলো হলো- বাংলাদেশ জামায়াতে ইসলামী, ফ্রিডম পার্টি, ঐক্যবদ্ধ নাগরিক আন্দোলন,প্রগতিশীল গণতান্ত্রিক পার্টি (পিডিপি) ও জাতীয় গণতান্ত্রিক পার্টি (জাগপা)।

দিবসটি উপলক্ষে আজ বৃহস্পতিবার (২৭ অক্টোবর) সকালে শিক্ষক দিবস উদযাপন কমিটির আহবায়ক নরসিংদী সরকারি কলেজের অধ্যক্ষ প্রফেসর মোস্তাক আহমেদ ভূইয়া ও সদস্য সচিব জেলা মাধ্যমিক শিক্ষা অফিসার গৌতম চন্দ্র মিত্রের নেতৃত্বে সর্বস্তরের (প্রাথমিক, মাধ্যমিক, উচ্চ মাধ্যমিক, কলেজ, কারিগরি ও মাদ্রাসার) কয়েক হাজার শিক্ষক শিক্ষিকার অংশগ্রহনে নরসিংদী সরকারি কলেজ প্রাঙ্গন থেকে একটি বর্ণাঢ্য র‍্যালীর শুভ উদ্বোধন করা হয়। র‍্যালীটি শহরের বিভিন্ন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সড়ক প্রদক্ষিণ করে নরসিংদী মুসলেহ উদ্দিন ভূইয়া স্টেডিয়াম চত্তরে স্থাপিত শহীদ মিনারে গিয়ে সমবেত হয়। র‍্যালী শেষে সংক্ষিপ্ত সমাবেশে বক্তারা বলেন, শিক্ষা জাতির মেরুদণ্ড। শিক্ষা ছাড়া আলোকিত মানুষ সৃষ্টি ও জাতির উন্নতি কোনোভাবেই সম্ভব নয়। সুখী-সমৃদ্ধ জাতি গঠনে শিক্ষকদের ভূমিকা অপরিসীম। শিক্ষকদের অবদান স্মরণ করতেই বাংলাদেশ দিবসটি এ বছর গুরুত্বের সঙ্গে পালন করছে।

এর মাধ্যমে বিশ্বব্যাপী সব মানুষেকে এটাই বলা হচ্ছে যে, শিক্ষা ব্যবস্থায় পরিবর্তন করতে পারেন শিক্ষকরাই। শিক্ষাক্ষেত্রে যেকোন পরিবর্তন অবশ্যই শিক্ষকদের দিয়ে শুরু করতে হয় অর্থাৎ শিক্ষকের পরিবর্তন হলেই শিক্ষার্থীর পরিবর্তন ঘটে আর বৈপ্লবিক পরিবর্তন আসে দেশের উন্নয়নে। র‍্যালী ও সমাবেশ শেষে শিক্ষকগণ নিজ নিজ প্রতিষ্ঠানে ফিরে গিয়ে বৃক্ষরোপণ অভিযান কর্মসূচি সম্পন্ন করবেন। এসময় আরোও উপস্থিত ছিলেন, নরসিংদী সরকারি মহিলা কলেজের অধ্যক্ষ,নরসিংদী সরকারি কলেজের ভাইস প্রিন্সিপাল মোঃ সিরাজুল ইসলাম, নরসিংদী ইন্ডিপেন্ডেন্ট কলেজের অধ্যক্ষ মোঃ মশিউর রহমান মৃধা প্রমূখ।

এ সময় আড়িয়ামুগুর নতুন হাটি গ্রামের মৃত অন্নদা সন্যাসী দাসের পুত্র জুয়েল চন্দ্র দাস(৩৫),আগুয়া গ্রামের মৃত সিরাজ মিয়ার পুত্র শফিক (৩৫), একই গ্রামের ললিত রবি দাসের পুত্র শ্যামল রবি দাস (৩৮) কে ৩২৪ লিটার দেশীয় চোলাই মদ সহ গ্রেফতার করা হয়।

A court has sentenced three friends to life imprisonment for killing a young man named Mehraj Hossain by drugging him and then tying a belt around his neck in Lakshmipur.

Yusuf of Uttar Hooghly village under Sudharam police station in Noakhali, Sajib is the son of Nurul Islam of Matahapur village under the same police station, and Bijoy is the son of Shahidul Islam of Rawal Diya village.
