এদিন সকালে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রশাসনিক ভবনের সামনে কেক কেটে অনুষ্ঠানের শুভ উদ্বোধন করেন নোয়াখালী বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের  উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক ড. মোঃ দিদার-উল-আলম। এসময় সংক্ষিপ্ত বক্তব্যে মাননীয় উপাচার্য বলেন, ‘আজ জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের কনিষ্ঠ পুত্র শহীদ শেখ রাসেলের ৫৯তম জন্মদিন ও শেখ রাসেল দিবস। মাত্র ১১ বছর বয়সেই নিভে যায় শেখ রাসেলের জীবনপ্রদীপ। তিঁনি বেঁচে থাকলে আমরা অনেক বড় একজন নেতা পেতাম। শিশু রাসেলকে হত্যার মধ্য দিয়ে খুনিরা জাতির পিতার রক্তের উত্তরাধিকার নিশ্চিহ্ন করতে চেয়েছিল।

কিন্তু তাদের সে প্রচেষ্টা সফল হয়নি। এই দিনে আমি শহীদ শেখ রাসেলের স্মৃতির প্রতি গভীর শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদন করছি এবং তাঁর আত্মার মাগফেরাত কামনা করছি। একই সাথে হাজার বছরের শ্রেষ্ঠ বাঙালি জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানসহ সকল শহীদদের প্রতি গভীর শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদন করছি। জয় বাংলা, জয় বঙ্গবন্ধু’।

ফরিদপুরে ৫০৭ পিচ ইয়াবাসহ শাহ আলম মোল্যা (৩৮) নামের এক মাদক কারবারিকে গ্রেফতার করেছে জেলা গোয়েন্দা (ডিবি) পুলিশ। গ্রেফতার শাহ আলমকে মঙ্গলবার (১৮ অক্টোবর) সকালে ফরিদপুরের কোর্টে প্রেরণ করা হয়েছে। এর আগে সোমবার (১৭ অক্টোবর) দিনগত রাত ৮ টার দিকে জেলা সদরের শোভারামপুর এলাকা থেকে ইয়াবাসহ তাকে গ্রেফতার করা হয়।

জানা যায়, গোপন সংবাদের ভিত্তিতে ফরিদপুর সদরের শোভারামপুর এলাকায় অভিযান চালায় ডিবি পুলিশের একটি টিম। এসময় ৫০৭ পিচ ইয়াবাসহ শাহ আলম মোল্যা নামের এক মাদক কারবারিকে গ্রেফতার করা হয়। শাহ আলম জেলার সালথা উপজেলার গোয়ালপাড়া গ্রামের মকিম মোল্যার ছেলে।

গ্রেফতারের সত্যতা নিশ্চিত করে জেলা গোয়েন্দা পুলিশের ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) মো. মামুনুর রশীদ বলেন, গোপন সংবাদের ভিত্তিতে অভিযান চালিয়ে শাহ আলম নামের এক মাদক কারবারিকে গ্রেফতার করা হয়েছে। পরে শাহ আলমের বিরুদ্ধে ফরিদপুরের কোতয়ালী থানায় এসআই মোহাম্মদ হান্নান মিয়া বাদী হয়ে একটি মাদক মামলা দায়ের করেছেন।
