Five arrested with stolen motorcycle in Lakshmipur
Police arrested five members of a gang of thieves in Lakshmipur, along with five stolen motorcycles and a battery-powered auto-rickshaw.
Superintendent of Police Mahfuzzaman Ashraf gave this information at Meet the Press on Sunday afternoon.
The arrested persons are - Mobarak Hossain of Dakshin Keroa village in Raipur, Md. Belal of Banchanagar village in Lakshmipur municipality, Md. Chattar of Paschim Lakshmipur village, Rabiul Islam Rabu of Changpur village in Kachuar, Chandpur and Md. Sohel of the same area.
Police said that in the wake of a motorcycle theft case, the police conducted a raid in the Mirganj area of the district on the early morning of September 10. At that time, the police arrested Mobarak Hossain, Belal Hossain and Chattar along with a battery-powered auto-rickshaw. After interrogating the accused, five stolen motorcycles were recovered from their custody. Later, a raid was conducted in Chandpur and the remaining two were arrested.
The Superintendent of Police said that the accused already have multiple theft cases registered against them at various police stations. They are members of an inter-district theft gang.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Crime) Palash Kanti Nath, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Mangnethoai Marma, DIO-1 Azizur Rahman Mia, Sadar Police Station OC Mostafa Kamal and DB OC Shahadat Hossain Tito were present at the time.
Khaleda Zia's family requests extension of sentence suspension
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's family has filed an application to extend her bail. Shamim Iskander, Begum Khaleda Zia's younger brother, submitted the application to the Home Minister on Sunday afternoon.
In the letter, he requested Begum Khaleda Zia's unconditional release and permission to go abroad for better treatment.

Sheikh Hasina to attend Queen Elizabeth II's funeral
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will go to London to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Elizabeth, who will go to London two or three days earlier on September 19. Tree plantation at the National Press Club
The National Press Club Management Committee has organized a tree plantation program at the National Press Club. Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud participated in the program.
He inaugurated the tree plantation program by planting a pomegranate sapling in the green zone of the National Press Club today (September 11).
Before starting the tree plantation, Dr. Hasan Mahmud said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, immediately after coming to the country, launched a tree plantation program across the country in 1983 through the Krishak League. When she formed the government in 1996, tree plantation took the form of a movement in Bangladesh. Due to her, the amount of tree-covered area in Bangladesh has increased. Forest land has also increased. The reason for this is that awareness has increased among the people.
The Information Minister said, "I would like to thank the Press Club. Through their tree plantation program, tree plantation activities will be further strengthened across the country." Speaking at the tree plantation program, National Press Club President Farida Yasmin said, "The Prime Minister has asked to plant fruit trees, flower trees, and medicinal plants, and our today's program is in line with various activities."
It is learnt that 30 fruit trees of different varieties including pomegranate, jamrul, chalta, kamaranga, olive, guava, latkon, mango, and jam will be planted in the tree plantation program. Former information advisor to the Prime Minister Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, former president of the National Press Club Saiful Alam and leaders of the National Press Club were present at the tree plantation program.
EC seeks three-year jail term for obstructing election news gathering
The Election Commission (EC) has recommended amendment of the Representation of the People Ordinance (RPO) with provisions of imprisonment for a maximum of three years if the media workers are prevented from collecting the news of the vote.
Election Commissioner Ahsan Habib said this in response to questions from reporters at the election building in Agargaon of the capital on Sunday (September 11).
The reporters mentioned the eyes and ears of the Election Commission and said, "Instead of us, you are present and cover the news properly. We are making a new addition to the law.
EC Ahsan Habib said, if anyone tries to harm, attack, damage equipment and companions in the case of dutiful duti, then the provision of jail for a maximum of three years has been kept. In this case, a minimum of one year and fine has been kept. He said that the new section has been recommended to be added to the People's Representation Ordinance Act, he said.

Tsunami threat in 15 districts
The low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal has turned into a depression. At the same time, due to the influence of the full moon, there is a threat of a tidal surge of more than 1 to 2 feet in 15 coastal districts.
Meteorologist Khondaker Hafizur Rahman said that the distinct low pressure area located in the west-central Bay of Bengal and the adjacent northwest Bay of Bengal has moved west-northwestwards and condensed into a low pressure area. Due to this, the formation of deep circulating clouds continues in the north Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas. Gusty winds may blow in the seaports, north Bay of Bengal and coastal areas of Bangladesh.
The seaports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been asked to keep local warning signal number three (re) three. Due to the influence of the full moon and the high air pressure difference, the coastal districts of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalokati, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barisal, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni, Chittagong and Cox's Bazar and their offshore islands and chars may be inundated by wind-driven tidal surges of 1 to 2 feet higher than normal tide.
In this situation, fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay of Bengal and deep sea have been asked to navigate carefully near the coast until further notice. They have also been asked not to venture into the deep sea.
Another forecast said that there may be rain/thunderstorm accompanied by temporary gusty/snowy winds speeding up to 45-60 kmph from the south/southeast over Rangpur, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogra, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Madaripur, Kushtia, Jessore, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Comilla, Noakhali, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and Sylhet regions. River ports in these areas have been asked to (re) raise warning signal number one. The axis of the monsoon extends from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, the low pressure area and southern parts of Bangladesh to Assam. The monsoon is active over Bangladesh and is strong elsewhere in the north Bay of Bengal.
In this situation, light to moderate rain/thunderstorm accompanied by temporary gusty/stormy winds and lightning is likely to occur in most places of Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and many places of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions till Monday (September 12) morning.
Along with this, there may be heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places in the southern part of the country. The day temperature across the country may decrease by 1-2 degrees C and the night temperature will remain almost unchanged.
