‘A fraudster and two associates have been arrested on charges of defrauding people by sending them abroad under the guise of 'MP Mizanur'. Parliament security personnel arrested three members of the fraudster gang during the National Parliament session last Saturday. They are on a three-day remand at the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in the capital.

This gang has extorted crores of taka from at least 40 people by promising to send them to the European country Kosovo. The fake MP Shamimur Rahman alias Atiq alias MP Mizanur was assisted in this work by Rahul Hossain, a computer operator appointed as the master roll of the Parliament Secretariat. Through him, the alleged MP used to collect passes to enter the Parliament and regularly come and go to the Parliament. In addition, numerous people who wanted to go abroad were cheated by giving them the opportunity to enter the Parliament with the gate passes.

The victims of the fraud, Mehedi Hasan of Barguna, Nahidul Islam of Natore and Aminul Haque of Habiganj, have filed a case against Shamimur Rahman and his associates at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. The investigation officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Anwar Hossain Khan, told Samakal on Wednesday night that the three-day remand of the accused will end on Thursday. The case has been filed on charges of impersonating an MP and embezzling Tk 16 lakh 92 thousand by cheating. An investigation is underway.

Mehedi Hasan, the plaintiff in the case, said that Shamimur Rahman alias Mizanur's home is in Jagatpur, Titas Upazila, Comilla. In Dhaka, he lives in Mohammadpur Housing Society. He also implicated his wife Moutusi Rahman in the fraud. One of Mizanur's associates was Rahul Hossain, a computer operator who was appointed to the master roll of the Parliament Secretariat. His home is in Kamalpur, Mithamoin, Kishoreganj district. In Dhaka, he lives in Satmasjid Housing, Mohammadpur.

Mehedi Hasan alleged that Shamimur Rahman introduced himself as MP Mizanur and collected blood samples from him through Rahul, the computer operator of the Parliament House, claiming to be sending him to Kosovo with a government job. Mizanur charged 594,000 taka for medical fees at various times. The last time he charged 66,000 taka on the ground floor of the Parliament House on February 29.
The case report states that Mizanur took Tk 660,000 from 40 people for medical fees and Tk 92,000 each for emergency police clearance from 23 people. Last Friday, he took Tk 940,000 from 15 people at the Metsafe restaurant on the second floor of the Parliament Club, saying that a team from the Kosovo Embassy would come to interview those interested in going abroad.

People started to suspect Mizanur as there was no embassy team during the interview. At one point, they learned that Mizanur was a fake MP and the woman posing as a representative of the Kosovo embassy on the interview board was his wife, Moutusi Rahman.

মন্ত্রী আরও বলেন, আমরা দেশের প্রতিটি শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠানে খেলাধুলার চর্চার জন্য ক্লাবভিত্তিক কার্যক্রম শুরু করতে যাচ্ছি। পাঠাগারগুলোকে উন্নত করতে চাই। কারণ, শিক্ষার্থীরা যত বেশি বই পড়বে তত বেশি তাদের চিন্তার জগত প্রসারিত হবে। পাশাপাশি দাবার ক্লাব, বিতর্কের ক্লাব, উদ্যোক্তা তৈরি করার ক্লাব, স্কাউট অবশ্যই সব প্রতিষ্ঠানে থাকতে হবে। আমরা চাই আমাদের প্রতিটি শিক্ষার্থী স্মার্ট শিক্ষার্থী হবে।

In response to the famous song of world poet Rabindranath Tagore, a gathering of former and current students of the department gathered at the premises of the Department of Botany of Dhaka University (DU) on Saturday. They reminisced and talked about the past in chats and stories. The event was organized by the Dhaka University Botany Alumni Association (DUBA).

As the fog cleared on a winter morning, the department premises became bustling with former graduates from 8 am. The main program began at 10 am. DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman was the chief guest at the program, Member of Parliament and former student of the department Meher Afroz Chumki was the guest of honor, and Ha-Meem Group Managing Director AK Azad was the special guest.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman urged the alumni to establish a research fund each in the department to conduct basic and applied research to enhance the quality of education and research. He said that through this, not only will the university prosper, but the country's prestige in the international arena will also increase.

AK Azad, Managing Director of Ha-Meem Group, said, "When Dhaka University was established a hundred years ago, more than 60 to 70 percent of students came from the rural areas. Their fathers used to earn their living by selling jute and paddy. Even today, the statistics have not changed much. When students from the rural areas get admitted in the first year, they do not know anything. It is our responsibility to stand by them."

He reminisced and said, "We are five brothers and four sisters. If we had to study in a private university, my father would not have been able to teach us. My father did not have that ability. Then I would not have studied at Dhaka University either. Many people are going abroad after passing their honors and masters from here and are becoming established. I will call on the department chairmen and teachers to have a database and keep in touch with them. Students will have to be counseled. They will have to be made to understand that students are educated with the tax money of the common people. The university has given degrees, if the alumni stand by them out of that sense of responsibility, then the university will achieve great development."

At that time, he urged the department chairman to stay connected with former students and involve them in the work of the department and donated 1 million taka to the Department of Botany.

Meher Afroz Chumki said, "In the developed world, various university activities are carried out with the contributions of alumni. We also have to come forward in this regard. We must play a role in research and innovation through the collective efforts of all."

Golam Faruk passed out from the department in 1995. He is currently the education officer of Dinajpur district. Expressing his feelings, he said, "There are many memories on campus. I went to the Sundarbans once with my friends. I still remember it. Now we are all in different places. I met and chatted with all of them. That's why I came all the way."

Former professors of the department AZM Nowsher Ali Khan and Professor Syed Hadiuzzaman, former professor of Dhaka Ideal College MA Bari, and Secretary of the Anti-Corruption Commission Md. Mahbub Hossain were honored at the ceremony.

In addition, student Jannatul Ferdousi was awarded the Dr. Md. Athar Uddin Gold Medal for achieving the highest results in the department's postgraduate examination in 2019, and 43 students of the department were awarded one-time scholarships.

The event was chaired by the President of the Botany Alumni Association, Professor Dr. Md. Athar Uddin, and was also addressed by the Chairman of the Department, Professor Dr. Mihir Lal Saha, and the Acting General Secretary of the organization, Professor Dr. Asfaq Ahmed.

The cover of the book 'Hundred Poets Around the World for Love' has been unveiled. The book's cover unveiling and publication festival of this collection, which contains poems by 100 poets, was held at the Biswa Sahitya Kendra on Bangla Motorway in the capital on Monday afternoon.

Poet Joy Goswami, poet and professor Tapodhir Bhattacharya, founder of the World Literature Center Abdullah Abu Sayeed, poet Kamal Chowdhury, and poet and professor Shamim Reza were present as guests at the event, moderated by poet Shakira Parveen Suma.

The program was presided over by poet Shamim Shahan, editor of 'Granthi'. After Shamim Shahan's welcome speech, poet Shahed Kayes delivered a welcome speech at the program.

শনিবার (৩১ ডিসেম্বর) সকালে প্রধানমন্ত্রীর কার্যালয়ের শাপলা হল থেকে শিক্ষার্থীদের হাতে বই তুলে দিয়ে এই কর্মসূচির আনুষ্ঠানিক উদ্বোধন করেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী।

আগামীকাল ১ জানুয়ারি শিক্ষা মন্ত্রণালয় এবং প্রাথমিক ও গণশিক্ষা মন্ত্রণালয় আলাদাভাবে কেন্দ্রীয় পাঠ্যবই উৎসব উদযাপন করবে।

শিক্ষা মন্ত্রণালয়ের পক্ষ থেকে মাধ্যমিক পর্যায়ের বই উৎসব গাজীপুরের কাপাসিয়া উপজেলার সরকারি পাইলট উচ্চ বিদ্যালয়ে আয়োজন করা হবে। আর প্রাথমিক পর্যায়ের বইয়ের কেন্দ্রীয় উৎসব হবে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের খেলার মাঠে। অনুষ্ঠানে দুই মন্ত্রণালয়ের মন্ত্রী, প্রতিমন্ত্রী, সচিবসহ বিশিষ্ট ব্যক্তি, কর্মকর্তা, শিক্ষক-শিক্ষার্থীরা উপস্থিত থাকবেন।

এনসিটিবি জানায়, ২০২৩ শিক্ষাবর্ষের জন্য প্রায় ৩৫ কোটি পাঠ্যবই ছাপানোর কথা রয়েছে। এর মধ্যে প্রাথমিক পর্যায়ের পাঠ্যবই প্রায় ১০ কোটি। বাকি ২৫ কোটি মাধ্যমিক ও অন্যান্য বিষয়ের বই রয়েছে। বই উৎসবের আগে মাধ্যমিক পর্যায়ের ৮০ শতাংশ বই জেলায় পৌঁছে দেয়া সম্ভব হলেও প্রাথমিকের বড় অংশের বই পৌঁছানো কঠিন হয়ে পড়বে। প্রাথমিকের বই দেরি করে ছাপা শুরু হওয়ায় এমন পরিস্থিতি তৈরি হয়েছে।

২০১০ সাল থেকে প্রাথমিক ও মাধ্যমিক স্তরের সব শিক্ষার্থীকে বিনামূল্যে নতুন পাঠ্যবই দেয়া শুরু করে সরকার। এরপর ধারাবাহিকভাবে প্রতি বছরের শুরুতে শিক্ষার্থীদের উৎসব করে বিনামূল্যে বই দেয়া হচ্ছে।

উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে শিক্ষামন্ত্রী দীপু মনি, শিক্ষা উপমন্ত্রী মহিবুল হাসান চৌধুরী নওফেল, প্রাথমিক ও গণশিক্ষা প্রতিমন্ত্রী মো. জাকির হোসেনসহ মন্ত্রণালয়ের কর্মকর্তারা উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

বুধবার (২৮ ডিসেম্বর) দুপুর ১টা ৫২ মিনিটে প্রথমবারের মতো আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে যাত্রী নিয়ে দিয়াবাড়ি ({উত্তরা}) স্টেশন থেকে আগারগাঁওয়ের উদ্দেশে যাত্রা শুরু করে মেট্রোরেল।

প্রথম যাত্রায় মেট্রোরেলের যাত্রী ছিলেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা ও তার সফরসঙ্গীরা। উত্তরা থেকে রওনা হওয়ার মাত্র ১৮ মিনিট সময়ে ট্রেনটি আগারগাঁও স্টেশনে পৌঁছায়।

প্রথম যাত্রায় প্রধানমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে যাত্রী হিসেবে ছিলেন তার ছোট বোন শেখ রেহানা, জাতীয় সংসদের স্পিকার ড. শিরীন শারমিন চৌধুরী, সড়ক পরিবহন ও সেতুমন্ত্রী ওবায়দুল কাদেরসহ মন্ত্রিসভার সদস্য ও আমন্ত্রিত অতিথিরা।

এছাড়াও প্রথম যাত্রায় প্রধানমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গী হয়েছেন নির্বাচিত বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধা, স্কুল কলেজ ও মাদ্রাসা শিক্ষার্থী, মসজিদের ইমাম, পোশাককর্মী, রিকশাচালক, সবজি বিক্রেতা, ক্ষুদ্র নৃগোষ্ঠীর প্রতিনিধি, ব্যবসায়ী আর সরকারের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ব্যক্তিরা।
