Everything is empty when the elevator door opens

Abdullah Sagar (55), an official of Dhaka University, died after falling from the seventh floor while taking an elevator. He was working as the senior assistant accounts director at the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Fine Arts. The incident took place at the university's Mukaram Bhaban around 10:15 am on Friday. He was rescued and admitted to Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital, where he died in the afternoon.

Abdullah's home is in Kalemeshwar village under Gacha police station in Gazipur. He lived in Gazipur with his wife and three children. He used to commute to and from work regularly.

Alam Faruk, assistant registrar of the Fine Arts Department, said that the admission test for the Agricultural University was held on Friday. The students were seated in the Mukaram Bhaban. Abdullah went there to work. The elevator in that building is very old, which has to be opened by hand. He opened the elevator door on the seventh floor by hand and entered, but at that time the elevator did not reach the floor and fell down and was seriously injured.

University proctor Saifuddin Ahmed said Abdullah was on the seventh floor. He fell down as the door opened before the elevator arrived. Dhaka's Shahbagh Police Station OC Mohammad Khalid Munsur said the body was handed over without an autopsy as the family had no complaints.

রাজধানীর শ্যামপুরে একটি বাসায় জমে থাকা গ্যাস থেকে বিস্ফোরণে ৩ জন দগ্ধ হয়েছেন। তাদেরকে শেখ হাসিনা জাতীয় বার্ন অ্যান্ড প্লাস্টিক সার্জারি ইনস্টিটিউটে ভর্তি করা হয়েছে।

সোমবার দিবাগত রাত ৩টার দিকে বিস্ফোরণের এ ঘটনা ঘটে। পরে ভোর ৫টার দিকে তাদের হাসপাতালে নিয়ে আসা হয়।

দগ্ধরা হলেন- মো. জামাল উদ্দিন (৫০), মো. জামিল হোসেন (২৫) ও মোহাম্মদ তুষার (৩৫)।

জামিলের বাবা ইকবাল জানান, সাততলা ভবনের উপরের তলায় তারা তিনজন একটি রুমে কথা বলছিল। জামাল সিগারেট ধরানোর জন্য লাইটার জ্বালালে হঠাৎ রুমে বিস্ফোরণ হয়ে আগুন ধরে যায়। পরে তাদের উদ্ধার করে শেখ হাসিনা বার্নে নিয়ে আসা হয়।

তিনজনের অবস্থাই আশঙ্কাজনক জানিয়ে বার্ন ইনস্টিটিউটের আবাসিক চিকিৎসক ডা. তরিকুল ইসলাম জানান, জামালের শরীরে ৭৫ শতাংশ, জামিলের ৫৫ শতাংশ ও তুষারের ১০০ শতাংশ দগ্ধ হয়েছে।



Former minister Sadhan Chandra arrested

Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) has arrested former Food Minister and former member of parliament from Naogaon-1 constituency Sadhan Chandra Majumder.

He was arrested in a raid in the capital's Bashundhara residential area on Thursday night. He was later taken to the DB office on Minto Road in the capital.

Deputy Commissioner of the Media and Public Relations Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, confirmed this information. He said that there are several cases against Sadhan Chandra Majumder. He will be shown arrested in those cases.

Private car in Pirojpur canal, 8 people of two families killed

A total of eight members of two families were killed when a private car fell into a canal in Pirojpur Sadar Upazila. The accident took place in the Noorani Gate area of Pirojpur-Nazirpur road at around 2:30 am on Wednesday. The dead include two men, two women and four children.

The persons killed in this incident are Motaleb (45) of Kholachar neighborhood of Sherpur, his wife Sabina Akhter (30), daughter Mukta (12) and son Swaib (2) and Shaon Mridha (32) of Hoglabunia village of Nazirpur upazila of Pirojpur, his wife Amena Begum (29). ), sons Shahadat (10) and Abdullah (3).

After receiving the information about the accident, the fire service personnel went to the spot and recovered the bodies of eight people from inside the car at around three o'clock yesterday night. Later their bodies were taken to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital Mortuary.

Shaon Mridha's relative Murad said, the private car was supposed to go to Dhaka from Kuakata beach in Patuakhali via Nazirpur in Pirojpur.

In this regard, Pirojpur Additional Superintendent of Police Mukit Hasan Khan said that his identity was initially known from the identity card found with one of the dead named Motaleb. He was serving in the army.



Three members of the same family died due to electrocution in Barisal's Bakerganj

Three members of the same family died after being electrocuted in Bakerganj, Barisal. The incident took place at around 12 noon on Saturday (April 27) in Dhalmara village number 4 of Niyamati union of the upazila.
The deceased are Sonia Akhter (32), her daughter Sabrina (9) and her son Salman, aged four and a half. Bakerganj Police Station OC Abzal Hossain confirmed the deaths.
The OC said that while playing, child Salman touched a lemon tree next to the house. The electric wire on the lemon tree was torn. After Salman touched it, his sister Sabrina went to rescue him. At that time, she was also electrocuted. Later, while trying to rescue her two children, mother Sonia Akhter also died of electrocution.

A complaint has been lodged against the in-charge of Konakhola police outpost in Keraniganj

ঢাকার কেরানীগঞ্জে কোনাখোলা পুলিশ ফাঁড়ির ইনচার্জ ইন্সপেক্টর  মোঃ ফজলুর রহমানের বিরুদ্ধে অভিযোগ দায়ের করা হয়েছে।
রবিবার (২৮ এপ্রিল) দুপুরে কেরানীগঞ্জ  উপজেলা নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা মোঃ আবু রিয়াদের অফিসে এই অভিযোগ দায়ের করেন কোনাখোলা সিএনজি অটোরিকশার ড্রাইভারগন।
অভিযোগ সূত্রে জানা যায়,প্রতিদিন কোনা খোলা সিএনজি অটোরিকশা স্ট্যান্ড থেকে সিএনজি অটো রক্সা নিয়ে বিভিন্ন জায়গায় ব্যক্তিগত কাজে ঘোরাফেরা করেন। তার কাছে সিএনজির গ্যাস এবং ভাড়া চাইলে তিনি ক্ষিপ্ত হয়ে সিএনজি ড্রাইভারকে মারধর করেন এবং তার সিএনজিটিও ভাঙচুর করেন। এভাবে তিনি ৮থেকে ১০ জন ড্রাইভারকে মারধর করেছেন এবং একাধিক সিএনজি অটোরিকশা ভাঙচুর করেছেন। সিএনজি অটো রিক্সার ড্রাইভারগন  ইন্সপেক্টর ফজলুর রহমানের  এসব কাজের প্রতিবাদ করলে তিনি তাদেরকে মামলার ভয় দেখান।
সিএনজি অটো রিক্সার ড্রাইভার মোঃ সেলিম সেলিম জানান, কোনাখোলা স্ট্যান্ড থেকে রাজধানীর মোহাম্মদপুর, আটি বাজার, আব্দুল্লাহপুর ও কদমতলী গোলচত্তর এলাকায় প্রতিদিন প্রায় অর্ধশত সিএনজি অটোরিকশা চলাচল করে থাকে। এই সিএনজি অটো রিক্সা চালিয়ে তারা কোন রকমে জীবিকা নির্বাহ করে থাকেন। কিন্তু প্রতিদিন এই সিএনজি স্ট্যান্ড থেকে ইন্সপেক্টর ফজলুর রহমান নানা অজুহাতে ২/৩টি সিএনজি অটোরিকশা নিয়ে তিনি ব্যক্তিগত কাজে ব্যবহার করেন। ভাড়া বাবদ  কোন টাকা পয়সা দেন না এমনকি গাড়ির গ্যাস পর্যন্ত তিনি দেন না। প্রতিবাদ করলে তিনি মারধর করেন গাড়ি ভাঙচুর করেন এবং অকথ্য ভাষায় গালাগালি করেন। গাড়ি নিয়ে তিনি এই অবস্থা করলে আমরা তাহলে কি করে খাব।
মোঃ শওকত আলী নামে অপর এক সিএনজি অটো রিক্সার ড্রাইভার জানান, সরকারি কাজে প্রতিদিন আমরা একটি করে সিএনজি তার অফিসে দিয়ে থাকি। এতে আমাদের কোন অভিযোগ নেই। কিন্তু তিনি  ব্যক্তিগত কাজে আমাদের কাছ থেকে জোর করে সিএনজি অটো রিক্সা নিয়ে ভাড়া না দিয়ে সারাদিন খাটায়। আমরা তার এই নির্যাতনের হাত থেকে বাঁচতে চাই।
এ ব্যাপারে কোনাখোলা পুলিশ ফাঁড়ি ইনচার্জ ইন্সপেক্টর মোঃ  ফজলুর রহমান জানান, আমি কোন ব্যক্তিগত কাজে সিএনজি অটো রিক্সা  নেইনি। শুধু সরকারি কাজের জন্যই তাদের কাছ থেকে রিকুজেশন করে সিএনজি অটোরিকশা নেয়া হয়। তার বিরুদ্ধে সিএনজি অটো রিক্সা ড্রাইভার দের করা অভিযোগ সঠিক নয়।


Legal Aid: Rajshahi District and Sessions Judge will provide legal assistance to remote rural areas from the city

Mazharul Islam Chapal Bureau Chief: National Legal Aid Day 2024 was celebrated in Rajshahi with the melodious sounds of the parade and charming arrangements.
On Sunday (April 28) at 9 am, the Rajshahi court premises were filled with various arrangements since morning to mark the day. At the beginning, the Rajshahi court's Senior District and Sessions Judge Mr. Sheikh Mofizur Rahman inaugurated the day by flying pigeons and festoons, symbols of peace. After the inauguration, he participated in the rally. The rally left the District and Sessions Judge premises and returned to the court premises via the Bhendipara (DIG Range Office) intersection in the city.
After the rally, he visited the voluntary blood donation program and legal aid fair and inaugurated the stalls by cutting the ribbon. During this, the stall organizers highlighted various initiatives on legal aid and how legal aid can be reached to marginalized groups.
The discussion meeting started at 10 am. The discussion meeting was moderated by Senior Judicial Magistrate Maruf Allam and District Joint Judge Luna Ferdous, and chaired by District Legal Aid Committee Chairman, District and Sessions Judge Sheikh Mofizur Rahman. The welcome address was delivered by learned Chief Judicial Magistrate Iqbal Bahar, learned Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Shah Md. Zakir Hossain, and Additional DIG of Police Md. Saiful Islam.
In addition, the learned Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mr. Al Asad Md. Asifuzzaman attracted everyone with his important and smart speech. Also present were learned judges of various tribunals (district and sessions judges), additional divisional commissioners and other judges, President of the District Bar Association Adv. Md. Ibrahim Hossain, general secretary and members, panel lawyers, legal aid clients, members of the Legal Aid Committee, Court Police, District Police, Metropolitan Police, various non-governmental voluntary organizations BLAST, National Women's Bar Association, BRAC, Sachate, Aid Comilla, ACD, OLAR, Parivartan, Diner Alo Hijra Sangha, Angorasar Samaj Unnayan Sangstha and all other levels of the public. A discussion was held on the significance of the day and crests were given to the best panel lawyers.
At the beginning of the discussion meeting, District Legal Aid Officer and learned Senior Assistant Judge Ariful Islam gave a valuable speech about the significance of Legal Aid Day and legal aid activities.
In the closing remarks of the president, the Chairman of the District Legal Aid Committee, Honorable Senior District and Sessions Judge Mr. Sheikh Mofizur Rahman, highlighted the role of the current government in the issue of government legal aid.
He said, “Smart Legal Aid is a Smart Country, Bangabandhu’s Bangladesh”. The Legal Aid Act 2000 was enacted to facilitate the path of justice for those who are unable to get justice or are deprived of justice due to financial hardship and other reasons. It is a groundbreaking and people-friendly law. As part of the current government’s commitment to the poor people, the government has established legal aid offices in all districts. In order to make it easier for the poor people to get legal aid, the government has created the posts of Legal Aid Officer, Office Assistant cum Computer Typist, Bench Assistant and Peon. He said that everyone’s participation in legal aid activities is important and called on everyone to help the poor people get their legal rights. He highlighted the importance of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) through conciliation to resolve the ongoing litigation.
He said that Rajshahi District Legal Aid Office has provided assistance in 14,982 cases till April 2024, out of which 11,651 cases have been settled, 3,331 cases are ongoing. From 2017 to April 2024, 3,035 people have received legal advice. From 2016 to April 2024, 1,648 people have applied for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). Out of which 1,529 have been settled, 119 are ongoing and 1,84,03,811/- (One crore eighty-four lakh three thousand eight hundred and eleven) taka has been collected through ADR. Legal aid activities need to be made more dynamic. I believe that legal aid will reach remote rural areas from Rajshahi city very soon.
Later, he presented the crest to the best panel lawyer of 2023. This year, the best panel lawyer was selected as Ed. Neelima Biswas. Finally, he expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to everyone and declared the event over.

 



'Warning' about Moliner, Aviation Minister orders to talk to Boeing

ড্রিমলাইনার-৭৮৭ মডেলের উড়োজাহাজ নিয়ে নির্মাতা কোম্পানিটির সাবেক প্রকৌশলীর উত্থাপিত কারিগরি ত্রুটির বিষয়ে বোয়িং কোম্পানির সঙ্গে দ্রুত কথা বলতে বিমান বাংলাদেশকে নির্দেশ দিয়েছেন বেসামরিক বিমান পরিবহন ও পর্যটনমন্ত্রী মুহাম্মদ ফারুক খান।

শনিবার রাষ্ট্রায়ত্ত এয়ারলাইন্স বিমানের ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক ও প্রধান নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা শফিউল আজিমের সঙ্গে টেলিফোনে আলাপকালে তিনি এ নির্দেশনা দেন।

বেসামরিক বিমান পরিবহন ও পর্যটন মন্ত্রণালয়ের সংবাদ বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে এ নির্দেশনার বিষয়ে সংবাদমাধ্যমকে জানানো হয়।

তবে বিমান বাংলাদেশের বহরে থাকা যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের উড়োজাহাজ নির্মাতা কোম্পানি বোয়িংয়ের ড্রিমলাইনার উড়োজাহাজগুলো নতুন হওয়ায় উত্থাপিত কারিগরি সমস্যা নিয়ে আতঙ্কিত হওয়ার কিছু নেই বলে আশ্বস্ত করেন ফারুক খান।

বিশ্বের সবচেয়ে বড় উড়োজাহাজ নির্মাতা বোয়িংয়ের সাবেক প্রকৌশলী স্যাম সালেহপৌর ‘৭৮৭ ড্রিমলাইনার’ ত্রুটিপূর্ণ দাবি করে সেগুলো না উড়িয়ে আবার নিরাপত্তা পরীক্ষার জন্য গ্রাউন্ডেড করার পরামর্শ দেন। তার ব্ক্তব্য নিয়ে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের সংবাদমাধ্যম এনবিসি নিউজে খবর প্রকাশ হলে তা বিশ্বজুড়ে আলোচনা তৈরি করে।

তবে এমন অভিযোগ অস্বীকার করে বোয়িং বলেছে, তারা নতুন করে ড্রিমলাইন পরীক্ষা করে উড়োজাহাজ ভেঙ্গে পড়ার মতো কোনো ক্রুটি পাননি।

বিমান বাংলাদেশের বহরে মোট ২১টি উড়োজাহাজের মধ্যে ছয়টি প্রশস্ত বডির ৭৮৭ ড্রিমলাইনার উড়োজাহাজ রয়েছে।

শনিবার এ বিষয়ে বিমানের এমডিকে দেওয়া বিমানমন্ত্রীর নির্দেশনার কথা বিজ্ঞপ্তির মাধ্যমে সংবাদমাধ্যমকে অবহিত করা হয়।

এতে বলা হয়, “আলাপকালে মন্ত্রী বলেছেন, ‘বিমান বাংলাদেশ এয়ারলাইন্সের বহরে থাকা ড্রিমলাইনার উড়োজাহাজগুলো নতুন হওয়ায় আপাতত উত্থাপিত কারিগরি সমস্যা নিয়ে আমাদের আতঙ্কিত হওয়ার কিছু নেই। তবে ভবিষ্যতের কথা ভেবে এবং যাত্রী নিরাপত্তা নিশ্চিত করার স্বার্থে কারিগরি বিষয়গুলো নিয়ে উড়োজাহাজ তৈরিকারি কোম্পানি বোয়িং এর সাথে দ্রুত কথা বলে বিষয়টি পরিষ্কার হওয়া প্রয়োজন। কারণ বাংলাদেশ সরকার এবং বিমানের কাছে যাত্রীদের নিরাপত্তাই মুখ্য বিষয়।’

”এসময় বিমানের ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক ও প্রধান নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা জানান, কারিগরি ও মেইনটেনেন্স সংক্রান্ত বিষয়ে বোয়িং এর সাথে বিমানের সার্বক্ষণিক যোগাযোগ বিদ্যমান। দ্রুতই এ বিষয়ে অধিকতর তথ্য জেনে মন্ত্রীকে অবহিত করবেন।”

বোয়িংয়ের ড্রিমলাইনার নিয়ে নিরাপত্তা ঝুঁকির প্রসঙ্গে ওই প্রকৌশলীর সতর্কবার্তা বিশ্বজেুড়ে সংবাদমাধ্যমগুলোর শিরোনাম হয়।

যুক্তরাজ্যের সংবাদমাধ্যম দ্যা টেলিগ্রাফ বোয়িংয়ের সাবেক প্রকৌশলী স্যাম সালেপোরের বরাতে বলেছে, উৎপাদন বাড়ানোর প্রতিযোগিতা উড়োজাহাজগুলোর মধ্যে মারাত্মক কিছু সমস্যা তৈরি করেছে, যেটি হচ্ছে ফিউজিল্যাজের সেকশনগুলোর মধ্যে ছোট ছোট ফাঁক রয়ে গেছে। বিশ্বব্যপী চলাচলকারী এক হাজারের বেশি ড্রিমলাইনার উড়োজাহাজকে নিরাপত্তা পরীক্ষার জন্য উড্ডয়ন থেকে বিরত রাখার পরামর্শও দেন ওই প্রকৌশলী।

মাঝ আকাশে বিমানের ড্রিমলাইনারের উইন্ডশিল্ডে ফাটল

মার্কিন সিনেটে গত ১৭ এপ্রিল এক শুনানিতে প্রকৌশলী সালেপোর তার বিস্তারিত শঙ্কার কথা তুলে ধরেন। সেখানে তিনি দাবি করেন, ফিউজিল্যাজের সেকশনগুলোতে ছোট ফাঁকগুলো বন্ধে পাতলা ধাতব পাত (শিম) লাগানোর আগে অতিরিক্ত বল প্রয়োগ করেছে বোয়িং। ৭৮৭ উড়োজাহাজগুলো যে মিশ্র উপাদান (কম্পোজিট ম্যাটেরিয়াল) দিয়ে তৈরি, সেগুলো এ ধরনের বল প্রয়োগের ফলে দুর্বল হয়ে যায় এবং এগুলো দেখে শনাক্ত করা যায় না।

তবে অভিযোগ প্রসঙ্গে বোয়িং বলেছে, ৭৮৭ উড়োজাহাজের কাঠামোগত ক্রুটি নিয়ে যে অভিযোগ তোলা হচ্ছে তা সঠিক নয়। বোয়িংয়ের একজন নির্বাহী বলেছেন, এর প্রত্যাশিত আয়ুষ্কালের বেশি সময় ধরে মডেলটি এক লাখ ৬৫ হাজার ফ্লাইট সাইকেল স্ট্রেস টে

কথা বলার নির্দেশ মন্ত্রীর

বিমানের বহরে থাকা ছয়টি ৭৮৭ ড্রিমলাইনার হল-আকাশবীণা, হংসবলাকা, গাংচিল, রাজহংস, সোনরতরী ও অচিনপাখি। ২০১৮ ও ২০১৯ সালে নতুন কেনা এসব উড়োজাহাজ বহরে যুক্ত হয়। এগুলো দিয়ে ইউরোপ ও কানাডায় দূরপাল্লার ফ্লাইটগুলো চালাচ্ছে বিমান।

ফোর্বসের ২০২৩ সালের ১৯ মার্চের একটি প্রতিবেদনে বলা হচ্ছে, বিশ্বব্যাপী এক হাজার ছয়শটির বেশি ড্রিমলাইনার সরবরাহ অথবা তৈরির প্রক্রিয়ায় (অন অর্ডার) রয়েছে। একটি বোয়িং ৭৮৭-৮ উড়োজাহাজের মূল্য ২৩৯ মিলিয়ন ডলার।

ড্রিমলাইনারের নিরাপত্তা ঝুঁকির বিষয়ে শঙ্কা তৈরির পর বিমানমন্ত্রী ফারুক খান অসুস্থ অবস্থাতেই বিষয়গুলো খতিয়ে দেখার পাশাপাশি এ নিয়ে যাত্রী নিরাপত্তার কথা ভেবে কারিগরি বিষয়গুলো নিয়ে বোয়িংয়ের সঙ্গে দ্রুত কথা বলার নির্দেশ দেন।

বিমানের একজন কর্মকর্তা বলছেন, বহরে থাকা ড্রিমলাইনারগুলোতে এখন পর্যন্ত জটিল কোনো নিরাপত্তা ঝুঁকি দেখা যায়নি। তবে গত ২০ জানুয়ারি সৌদি আরবের পথে রওনা হওয়ার পর একটি ড্রিমলাইনারের ককপিটের কাচে (উইন্ডশিল্ড) ফাটল দেখা দেওয়ায় ২ ঘণ্টা বাদে ২৯৭ আরোহী নিয়ে তা শাহজালাল বিমানবন্দরে ফিরে আসে।

বিষয়টি নিয়ে পরদিন বিমানের প্রকৌশল ও উপাদান ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিদপ্তরের পরিচালক এয়ার কমোডর মোয়াজ্জেম হোসেন বিডিনিউজ টোয়েন্টিফোর ডটকমকে বলেছিলেন, “এয়ারক্রাফটটি ওড়ার পর আকাশে উইনশিল্ডে ক্র্যাক দেখা দেয়। চার বছরের মাথায় সাধারণত এমন ঘটনা হওয়ার কথা না। আমরা বোয়িংয়ের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ করছি, এটা ম্যানুফাকচারিং ফল্ট, না অন্য কোনো কারণে হয়েছে- সেটাও আইডেন্টিফাই করার চেষ্টা চলছে।”

উইন্ডশিল্ডে ফাটল কি এভিয়েশন খাতের সাধারণ ঘটনা, এমন প্রশ্নের উত্তরে তিনি বলেছিলেন, “খুব যে কমন তা বলব না। এর আগেও আমাদের একটি বোয়িং ৭৮৭ এর উইন্ডশিল্ডে ক্র্যাক হয়েছিল। আমরা বোয়িংয়ের সঙ্গে বিষয়টি নিয়ে আলোচনা করছি।”
