Passengers held hostage on moving bus in Savar, robbed of money, mobile phones, gold ornaments, 1 injured

A group of robbers boarded a moving bus on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar, near Dhaka, and took passengers hostage. They took them hostage with sharp weapons and stole money, mobile phones and gold ornaments. A passenger was stabbed while trying to stop the robbers.

The robbery took place on the Dhaka-Aricha highway from in front of the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Center (BPATC) in Savar to the gate area adjacent to Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall of Jahangirnagar University on Friday (December 20) evening. Md. Shamim Hossain (30), who was injured by the robbers' knife attack, has been treated at the private Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar. He is a resident of Sreepur Notunnagar area of Ashulia.

Talking to the bus passengers and the bus owner, it was learned that a bus carrying passengers with the Welcome banner left Motijheel, Dhaka for Chandra on Friday afternoon. When the bus reached in front of BPATC in Savar at around 6:30 pm, a group of 3-4 hijackers boarded the bus. They held some people hostage with sharp country-made weapons. Later, they snatched money, mobile phones and gold ornaments from 15-20 passengers on the bus. When some tried to stop them, they were beaten and one of them was stabbed. Later, the hijackers went down the speed breaker on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in front of the gate adjacent to Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall of Jahangirnagar University.

Eyewitnesses said that after the bus reached the main gate of the university, some students stopped the bus and questioned the driver and the driver's assistant. Later, they took the bus to the Bishmail area. Upon receiving the information, the police reached the spot and took the bus, along with the driver and the driver's assistant, into their custody.
Meanwhile, the bus passenger injured in the stabbing, Md. Shamim Hossain, was first given primary treatment at Jahangirnagar University Medical Center. Later, he was taken to Enam Medical College Hospital. Hasan Mahbub, a doctor on duty at the hospital's emergency department, said, "A person injured in the stabbing named Shamim has been brought to the hospital. There are stab marks on his body."

A passenger on the bus, Harun Or Rashid, said that after the bus passed the Savar Radio Colony area around 6:30 pm, three young men armed with sharp weapons suddenly took the bus passengers hostage. First, they stabbed a passenger sitting in the front seat of the bus. Later, they looted money and belongings from all the passengers.

A representative of Welcome Paribahan, who did not wish to be named, said, "3-4 people got on the bus from in front of BPATC in Savar with small knives. Then they held a knife to the throat of a child on the bus. They were between 25-30 years old."

Ashulia Police Station Sub-Inspector Alok Kumar Dey said, passengers said that some robbers from the BPATC area boarded the bus, held some hostage at sharp weapons, and quickly got off the bus after the robbery. Later, students of Jahangirnagar University detained the bus and the driver. After reaching the spot after receiving the information, several passengers narrated the incident. Since the incident was in the Savar Model Police Station area, the victims have been advised to file a complaint with the Savar Model Police Station.

Savar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Jewel Mia said that a team of them is working on the matter. Details will be announced later.




Everything is empty when the elevator door opens

Abdullah Sagar (55), an official of Dhaka University, died after falling from the seventh floor while taking an elevator. He was working as the senior assistant accounts director at the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Fine Arts. The incident took place at the university's Mukaram Bhaban around 10:15 am on Friday. He was rescued and admitted to Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital, where he died in the afternoon.

Abdullah's home is in Kalemeshwar village under Gacha police station in Gazipur. He lived in Gazipur with his wife and three children. He used to commute to and from work regularly.

Alam Faruk, assistant registrar of the Fine Arts Department, said that the admission test for the Agricultural University was held on Friday. The students were seated in the Mukaram Bhaban. Abdullah went there to work. The elevator in that building is very old, which has to be opened by hand. He opened the elevator door on the seventh floor by hand and entered, but at that time the elevator did not reach the floor and fell down and was seriously injured.

University proctor Saifuddin Ahmed said Abdullah was on the seventh floor. He fell down as the door opened before the elevator arrived. Dhaka's Shahbagh Police Station OC Mohammad Khalid Munsur said the body was handed over without an autopsy as the family had no complaints.




Explosion from gas accumulated in house in Shyampur, burnt 3

3 people have been burnt in the explosion of a gas in the capital's Shyampur, which has been admitted to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.

The explosion happened around 3 am on Monday, and then they came to the hospital around 5 am.

The burnt people are - Md. Jamal Uddin (50), Md. Jamil Hossain (25) and Mohammad Tushar (35).

Jamil's father Iqbal said the three of them were talking in a room on the top floor of the seven-story building. When Jamal turned on a lighter to smoke a cigarette, the room suddenly exploded and caught fire. Later they were rescued and brought to the barn.

The condition of the three is critical, Dr. Tariqul Islam, resident doctor of Burn Institute, said that Jamal's body was burnt 75 percent, Jamil's 55 percent and Tushar's 100 percent burns.




Former minister Sadhan Chandra arrested

Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) has arrested former Food Minister and former member of parliament from Naogaon-1 constituency Sadhan Chandra Majumder.

He was arrested in a raid in the capital's Bashundhara residential area on Thursday night. He was later taken to the DB office on Minto Road in the capital.

Deputy Commissioner of the Media and Public Relations Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, confirmed this information. He said that there are several cases against Sadhan Chandra Majumder. He will be shown arrested in those cases.

A total of eight members of two families were killed when a private car fell into a canal in Pirojpur Sadar Upazila. The accident took place in the Noorani Gate area of Pirojpur-Nazirpur road at around 2:30 am on Wednesday. The dead include two men, two women and four children.

The persons killed in this incident are Motaleb (45) of Kholachar neighborhood of Sherpur, his wife Sabina Akhter (30), daughter Mukta (12) and son Swaib (2) and Shaon Mridha (32) of Hoglabunia village of Nazirpur upazila of Pirojpur, his wife Amena Begum (29). ), sons Shahadat (10) and Abdullah (3).

After receiving the information about the accident, the fire service personnel went to the spot and recovered the bodies of eight people from inside the car at around three o'clock yesterday night. Later their bodies were taken to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital Mortuary.

Shaon Mridha's relative Murad said, the private car was supposed to go to Dhaka from Kuakata beach in Patuakhali via Nazirpur in Pirojpur.

In this regard, Pirojpur Additional Superintendent of Police Mukit Hasan Khan said that his identity was initially known from the identity card found with one of the dead named Motaleb. He was serving in the army.




Three members of the same family died due to electrocution in Barisal's Bakerganj

Three members of the same family died after being electrocuted in Bakerganj, Barisal. The incident took place at around 12 noon on Saturday (April 27) in Dhalmara village number 4 of Niyamati union of the upazila.
The deceased are Sonia Akhter (32), her daughter Sabrina (9) and her son Salman, aged four and a half. Bakerganj Police Station OC Abzal Hossain confirmed the deaths.
The OC said that while playing, child Salman touched a lemon tree next to the house. The electric wire on the lemon tree was torn. After Salman touched it, his sister Sabrina went to rescue him. At that time, she was also electrocuted. Later, while trying to rescue her two children, mother Sonia Akhter also died of electrocution.

A complaint has been filed against Md. Fazlur Rahman, in-charge of Konakhola police outpost in Keraniganj, Dhaka.
The drivers of Konakhola CNG autorickshaw filed this complaint at the office of Keraniganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Abu Riyad on Sunday (April 28).
According to the complaint, Kona opens every day with CNG auto rickshaw from open CNG autorickshaw stand and roams around for personal work in different places. When he asked for CNG gas and fare, he got angry and beat the CNG driver and also vandalized his CNG. Thus he beat up 8 to 10 drivers and vandalized several CNG autorickshaws. When CNG Auto Rickshaw Drivers protested Inspector Fazlur Rahman's actions, he threatened them with a case.
Tari Tari, from Konakhola stand, about half a hundred CNG autorickshaws are running every day in Mohammadpur, Ati Bazar, Abdullahpur and Kadmatli areas of the capital.

Legal Aid: Rajshahi District and Sessions Judge will provide legal assistance to remote rural areas from the city

He said that Rajshahi District Legal Aid Office has provided assistance in 14,982 cases till April 2024, out of which 11,651 cases have been settled, 3,331 cases are ongoing. From 2017 to April 2024, 3,035 people have received legal advice. From 2016 to April 2024, 1,648 people have applied for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). Out of which 1,529 have been settled, 119 are ongoing and 1,84,03,811/- (One crore eighty-four lakh three thousand eight hundred and eleven) taka has been collected through ADR. Legal aid activities need to be made more dynamic. I believe that legal aid will reach remote rural areas from Rajshahi city very soon.
